  1. I'll probably only watch games if I'm extremely bored. I used to love the Cavaliers and the NBA, but not so much anymore. I don't think they've fixed the league structure enough to make it worth it for fans in the smaller markets to spend their time and money paying attention.
  2. Bummer. Can't win them all!

Cell phones, video games, computers, etc. Kids these days are too "plugged-in."

I don't think easing the availability of loans really does kids many favors. The whole funding scheme (and costs) is a big mess.
  5. Signing day's in February, right? So all of the commitments up until now have been verbal? I ask this because I have to believe that if Meyer is in place by December, he's going to go out there and work on getting some of the highly-rated in-state guys that verballed to other schools (particularly a few that went to Michigan).
  6. It's the Michigan game. No way they can just roll over. Need to get the ground game going early and open things up for Miller-Posey all day.
  7. I really don't have strong feelings about Sears as a company either way. I just seriously question throwing millions in tax incentives to a company (any company) that may or may not exist in its current state for very much longer. And the only way I'd fully support it coming to Cleveland was if no local tax incentives were given. In general I hate these games businesses play pitting localities and states against each other in a race towards the bottom. It's probably been going on for decades, but for some reason it seems to be happening more often in recent years.
  8. Not only have I not stepped foot in "America's department store" in years, but I don't even know where one is located around here. What is their online/catalog sales presence like these days?
  9. Yup. He made a name for himself by trashing the city in those videos and once again embarrassing us on a national level (these videos went viral and everyone who knows how to work the interwebs saw them). He then played the "it's okay, I'm allowed to do that because I'm from here" card.
  10. Where? I feel like I've seen one of those before around here, too, but I didn't mention it because I'm not sure.
  11. I just don't remember seeing the other interesting ones (California, Ontario, Puerto Rico, Washington, Texas, Vermont, North Dakota, Connecticut, North Carolina) until recently. Were they always around (but I just didn't notice them until recently), or is it something new? I don't know, that's a good question. I only started really paying attention in the past few years.
  12. Bingo. The traditional retail model is changing rapidly. There may not be room for a place like Sears in the future.
  13. Sounds as if it's likely that the Tilted Kilt will be taking over that space and Fat Fish Blue will stay in business but head elsewhere. That's the way I'm interpreting everything that's come out in the past few days.
  14. Another week, another disappointing loss. I'm a little ashamed that I actually let myself believe that this team had a chance to salvage the season after the Wisconsin win. Bring on the... URBAN MEYER OHIO STATE era!
  15. In regards to the license plate phenomenon, I see all kinds of out-of-state plates driving around the Heights area. This should come as no surprise, however, due to the hospitals and universities in the area. Lots of Michigan, Illinois, New York and Pennsylvania for sure, but I even see a decent number of other interesting ones including California, Ontario, Puerto Rico, Washington, Texas, etc.
  16. Why aren't we taking into consideration cost of living variations in these different cities? If a family pass to the Great Lakes Aquarium is the same price as one to the world-class Shedd Aquarium, then that seems a little fishy. Also what seems "cheap" to a San Franciscan or New Yorker may seem expensive to a Clevelander.
  17. I was wondering about this. I don't know if they've received any taxpayer subsidies, but if they have, then it's probably the right thing to do to give locals a break on admission.
  18. Personally I feel it's a tacky hooters, with an Irish twist. Something independent and local should be there. Am I happy the space, on a prominent corner, will not be vacant? Yes? Am I happy with what is filling the vacancy, no! Looks like they strictly took the place due to its proximity to the Casino. That is the casino's target market. You may be right. I just never felt like the Tilted Kilt (at least the one in Scottsdale) was even comparable to Hooters beyond the fact that the waitresses/bartenders were scantily-clad (and I didn't even realize that was the "theme," I just thought it was weather-related attire). I've only been to Hooters less than a handful of times in my life and the place always felt dirty. Tilted Kilt not so much in my opinion. But again, I'm not saying that there shouldn't be something else there. I just think that the Tilted Kilt, in my opinion, is a step or two "above" Hooters, for whatever that's worth. :drunk:
  19. When I was living in Scottsdale, Arizona the Tilted Kilt was a good place to watch football games on Sundays. Heck I even found a few fellow Browns fans to commiserate with. I didn't even realize it was a chain, but regardless, I didn't think there was anything terrible about the place. Certainly nothing special, but terrible? That's a bit of a stretch IMO. I understand why people wouldn't want to see any chain go into that space, though.

I will just say this, and it's not to defend McQueary's actions after the witnessing this horrific act, but I'm not sure anyone knows exactly how they'd react were they were actually in such a situation. It's really an unimaginable situation.

Yep, Jeffrey Toobin of CNN is saying that he incriminated himself with that interview as it's admissible in court. Very bad idea on the part of Sandusky to talk to Costas. That is exactly why attorneys usually tell their clients to avoid such interviews! Also, did anyone else see where Sandusky's attorney impregnated a 16-year-old who's now his wife before they got married? Doing the math I figured that the attorney would have been roughly 48 years old when it happened.
  22. I missed the ticket sale opening yesterday and now only the crap seats are left. :(
  23. What word would you use? Because I'm having a hard time understanding any of this or how it helps their situation to dissolve like that.
  24. I was thinking of this earlier when I was away from my computer, but maybe a deal could be brokered where Cleveland and Cleveland Heights split East Cleveland itself AND evenly (or proportionally) split all of the tax revenues (for maybe like 30 years or something), as well. For instance, though Nela Park may mostly or completely end up within the new boundaries of Cleveland Heights, CH and Cleveland could split all income and property taxes generated by the complex. Heck if Cleveland were to be taking roughly 65-70% of the territory and population, maybe they get that same percent of the new tax revenues. I don't know, perhaps this is something that would make it more palatable for Cleveland. Just a thought, thinking like a "regionalist." ;)
  25. It's not some wild justification to simply give CH the "nice" parts and "screw" Cleveland. The split I am backing makes sense based on a number of different criteria. Let's be clear here, I don't want to deliberately screw the city (I assume we're talking about Cleveland here), I just don't care that much or, more accurately, even think it's really that big of a deal. We're talking about what here, maybe 2 square miles and maybe 12,000 people? I think this is overstating the reality of the situation (and the analogy is a bit of a stretch, too). It would make zero sense for Cleveland Heights to, under any circumstance, ever take any part of East Cleveland that was down the hill (let's say anything roughly north of Euclid Avenue). Further, if that part of East Cleveland were to merge into Cleveland, it probably wouldn't matter that much if it came with the "uphill" part of the city or not, because we're not talking about a big area or large amount of people. That part of East Cleveland could very easily be rolled into Cleveland. As I stated above, I understand the argument as to why you think the uphill part of East Cleveland must be part of the "package," I just don't agree with the amount of urgency you place on it. Sorry but you'll never convince me that the city, in the current state it's in, has its own house in order or could handle a larger footprint*. But since you feel so strongly about the power of regionalism and the economies of scale that potentially come with mergers, then I'm not sure why you suddenly lose confidence in the possibility of Cleveland annexation of East Cleveland if it doesn't include the uphill portion of the city. I understand why you want that area to be part of Cleveland, but I also think your argument as to why you need it contradicts your beliefs about regionalism a bit. *This is part of the reason why no matter what happens, in my opinion Cleveland Heights needs to fight the possibility of Cleveland taking over any land that is uphill. In my opinion Cleveland will do little better at managing that area than East Cleveland does. I don't think it would "screw" Cleveland. I mean, the city wouldn't fall off a cliff it my scenario played out, would it? As a general rule, I think regionalism/annexation, when done correctly, can indeed improve cities.
