  1. I know you're not trying to sugarcoat things. I know that the event was mostly okay up until the end. But I think there is a crowd control issue that needs to be addressed. As for Twitter, just type in the keyword "Coventry" in the search (this is what the PD staff did, by the way) and you'll find tons of gems.
  2. I was really trying to think about what these kids bring to the table, how they make the fair better. And I'm sorry, but I'm struggling to think of one reason why their presence makes it better in any way. Do a little search on Twitter, and it becomes clear that they see its purpose a lot differently than you or I or the average family does. I think it's naive to believe that each consecutive incident of bad press isn't affecting turnout.
  3. So what can be done to help make sure this doesn't happen again? The next fair is scheduled for July 24th. I'll tell you right now, I don't believe that adding more police will or should be the solution. It shouldn't have had to come to this, but maybe charging a small entrance fee and/or stipulating that no unsupervised minors will be allowed to enter the fair would alleviate things a bit. Sadly, I think the damage is already done, and there will be a lot of families from beyond the CH borders that simply skip the event.
  4. Yeah, somewhere I heard that Fausto was pitching for his job yesterday. Well, great news! With his barely "quality" start, he'll stick around for at least another one...
  5. They scored a grand total of 4 runs in San Francisco. The Giants only put up 8. The blame for that sweep lies solely on the shoulders of the hitters. I hate National League baseball and interleague play!
  6. I was in that area (not really by choice) and it was a complete mess. As the fair let out (theoretically at 6pm, I believe) there were hundreds of unsupervised teens pushing/fighting/crowding the streets (at Coventry's intersection with both Mayfield and Euclid Heights). From what I saw, the bike police apprehended at least one young man who would not stop fighting, though many more could/should have seen handcuffs. I don't know where all of these children come from, but many of them seem to be there to only cause trouble. Fairs like this are coming close to no longer serving their original purpose and are simply acting as magnets for youths to congregate and raise hell. It may be close to time for CH to admit they have a big problem and either fix things or pull the plug on it all together. Once piece of good news, however, is that while I was around, I did not happen to hear any gunshots. So, hey, they've got that going for them!
  7. I've been trying to stay optimistic about this team, especially with the way they started and how weak the AL Central is, but, and I hate to say this, I think they're in trouble now. Choo wasn't hitting great, but even still he was better than his potential replacement, and further, I think he was really starting to come around. I want them to keep trying to compete, the franchise and fans need it, but I don't want them to sell the farm and future to obtain so-so pieces that would only possibly help them stay in contention this year.

Kasich is going to get pounded by this, as he should. It's just really too bad that the consequences for his stupidity aren't going to be as far-reaching as they could have been (i.e. having the repeal effort happen next year for the 2012 election).

Atlas that Foster The People song sounds a bit like MGMT. Either way, that's the first time I've heard "Houdini," but I like it better than their single "Pumped Up Kicks."

Hickson isn't going to re-sign here. Thus, he will be traded, and he will bring some assets. Sounds like Grant may not be opposed to letting the trade exception expire, or at least take into the time period following the lockout and roll the dice on seeing if the NBA gives the Cavs an extention (which would make it a valuable chip). Sessions will also likely be traded--he is coveted by a few teams as well and should bring something nice back. Beyond that, the only thing I have a big problem with is what the Cavaliers did in the draft after their first two picks. They essentially did nothing and I had higher hopes. Oh well...

Along Prospect I believe, somewhere in the 3000-4000 blocks.

Awesome pictures. Where/what is that picture of right above the St. Luke's pictures?

    Another power forward! Woohoo!

That is very interesting. I'm actually a big believer in Hollinger's way of evaluating players and teams, so that gives me some hope. And regardless, I'd have no problem with the Cavaliers unloading Hickson at some point soon, plus he is one of the few assets they have. Just kind of makes you wish they would have pulled the trigger on dealing him about 16 months ago. Saw this on Twitter from GodHatesClevelandSports: "If #Cavs had one more pick, they would take a guy who wore No. 21 in college, just to make it REAL clear to JJ Hickson."

Wow this draft is going great. Now you tell me Norris Cole is going to the one team where I have to hope he busts? Awesome...

    W-T-F ?
  17. Nobody cares to see the Rockies. Interleague play against teams from out west is a waste of time.
  18. I have little doubt that Orange Township v.2.0 will do just fine precisely because of its overall affluence. Even throwing Woodmere into the mix won't hurt it that much. If anything I suspect it will give other less well-off suburbs a bit of false hope that a merger could work for them.
  19. This is what I like to see! The new city should go back to the future and call itself "Orange," since that's basically what it was called long before these areas decided they needed to be independent cities. edit: I wonder why Moreland Hills decided to throw its hat in the ring, but not Hunting Valley?

Yeah, we can't give up the #4 pick and those two veterans.
  21. Joking aside, my overall point is this, and then I'll stop: Whether or not you're in favor the smoking ban, whether or not you think it has unintended consequences, it IS a restriction of freedom that we, as Ohio citizens, have empowered the government to enforce. To claim otherwise is simply spin.
  22. No, you're right, I'm being entirely serious. There are indeed negative externalities to gay marriage and we need the government to protect us all from them. It doesn't matter if I can avoid these externalities on a daily basis to the point where they don't effect me. Just the fact that these externalities exist, and despite some even choosing to expose themselves to it, means that it's best that we have established a nanny to keep everyone safe, even from themselves. I hope you're not implying that I'm an addict. I'm not a smoker, and even if I were, this is not about smokers' rights, it's about the rights of private business owners to make their own decisions. It's all in how you spin it. The bar was already set pretty low by others on this thread, I'm just playing along...
  23. Likewise, thanks to the gay marriage ban, I have the "freedom" to enjoy my heterosexual relationships without __________. (Fill in the blank)
