  1. He may know the game and be a good writer, but I do have to question his integrity and objectivity when it comes to writing about James and the Heat. From all accounts, he has almost unparalleled access to the team and James' day-to-day life. He sees and hears things that most other NBA media members do not see. He could have shed some light on what really happened last summer, but he didn't. I believe that he is too close to James and that has gotten in the way of him doing his journalistic duty. He passes on writing anything negative about James and instead uses his position to write puff pieces and essentially serve as James' PR guy. And he is paid by and releases his stories through the biggest name in sports media...What a great set up for all parties involved!
  2. Because this is a piece in one of the most widely-circulated papers in the country perpetuating myths about our fine city and state. I wouldn't take it personally if I didn't believe that it has a real and lasting impact on our region's ability to survive and thrive. Because of pieces like this, there are folks out there that will continue to overlook this area despite the fact that, if they were to give the city/state a chance, may have ended up finding employment and happiness here. So what have you done to "fact check" this article? What do you mean? Have you contacted the author of the article or the editor of that publication to express your opinion - instead of just ranting here on UO? You have hundreds of people on this very board that will also back you up. "journalist" can no longer write articles that bash without being able to back up what they have written and answering the questions - and God know you love to ask a damn question - of his/her readers. Yeah, I sent three tweets to Mr. Windhorst expressing my disgust with the piece. He didn't respond, nor did I expect him to.

  4. Both James and Windhorst left Cleveland by choice. A lot of people, however, do not. Read the comments on that page and the one linking to it in the Plain Dealer. There are a number of people expressing that they would have stayed if given the chance. If LeBron and Windhorst love the area so much, why did the leave? Unlike many other ex-patriots, both had every opportunity to stay and succeed in their chosen profession.

  6. Anyone else see this opinion piece in the Washington Post by former PD Cavaliers writer Brian Windhorst? It's a week old, but it just recently came to my attention recently. Thoughts? http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/lebron-james-just-followed-a-trend-leaving-ohio/2011/06/02/AGPEqMIH_story.html

Yeah, not this year. Trade deadline 2012-2013.

I like Sessions a lot and think he could find minutes in the rotation for a competitive Cavaliers squad down the line. But I guess it makes little sense to hold on to him if "down the line" isn't in the next year or two. Jamison and Davis are both possible trade deadline moves, I don't see either one being moved in the offseason. Boobie has little trade value now. As much as I don't like his attitude, I want Hickson's talent and potential on this team. Though if that potential doesn't become reality very soon, that will be a big problem. I like Andy, but he's overpaid.

Thoughts on possibly trading Hickson, Gibson and/or Sessions? New York supposedly is interested in Sessions, but I've heard the names of all three of those guys mentioned in the past week or so on sports talk shows as having potential to be traded.
  10. Okay, looks like the place will be opening soon: http://www.cedarfairmount.org/?p=323
  11. Good info. There also appears to be a takeout place opening in the long-empty corner space once occupied by Whitmore's at the intersection of Cedar-Lee (caddy-corner from the Cedar Lee Theater). The name of the place is Belly Backers and appears to be something like ribs/chicken/barbecue.
  12. He's also got the lowest upside of anyone on that list (other than maybe Kearns) when playing at his best. It's time to get Phelps up here. Not only is he producing better than Kipnis and Chisenhall, but he's been doing it longer at that level and very importantly, he is a switch-hitter, while the other two are lefties (and they don't need anymore lefties in the lineup).

I was high on Williams for a long-time, especially since I'm a bit of an Arizona Wildcats fan and loved watching him play in college, but the more I've been thinking about it lately, the more I want the Cavaliers to get Kanter.

I didn't understand his comment about staying out of the firehouse, either.
  15. I saw that article and a month or two back I saw signs in the windows indicating the upcoming arrival of the restaurant, but now the signs are gone and it's almost looking as if the project has been stalled.
  16. Ughhhh...well, that's baseball for ya. This team can suck it up and get back on track, or slink down to the level of play at which all outsiders expect from them. C'mon Tribe!
  17. Hey anyone know what's going on with the old Jillian's space in Cleveland Heights? Closed a few months back and it looked like a new restaurant was set to open, but now I'm not sure.
  18. Actually it's my understanding that ClearChannel uses (hires) fake callers for most of their big talk radio stations in cities across the country. Sometimes they do this and don't even tell the talk show hosts about it.
  19. If you take just one class each term, you get access to the CSU rec center and the pool. Otherwise just get a yearly membership at the rec center to have pool access. It's $480 a year. The CSU rec center, including the pool, is pretty nice. I think some people would be interested in using the outdoor pool in the summer time, though.

Jim Paxson had been scouting LeBron since he was in grade school and it was all a part of his master plan to ensure everything fell into place for Miami to win the 2011 NBA Championship.

Phoenix is next to lose their NHL franchise and one of those cities may have a good shot.
  22. As much as people hate to admit, the SEC has the competitive edge over BigTen schools, and to a lesser extent, even the ACC. A lot of top prospects bypass the BigTen schools for "warmer" weather and better scouting opportunities. The SEC also engages in a dirty little practice called oversigning. Basically they do not limit themselves to the number of high schoolers they can promise scholarships to. They sign 30 players to a class, keep the ones they actually want, and the lucky ones are sent off to community colleges or "gray-shirted." The other ones fall a year behind and forced to start their college search all over again. This is one of a handful of sleezy things that the SEC does that gives them a leg up.
  23. So Ohio State is the only school doing it? And if other schools are doing it, too, you're satisfied with the fact that most of them will never be punished for doing so? The system needs to be fixed. Dramatically. Schools aren't going to stop cheating because of this, they're just going to get better at it and work harder at not getting caught.
  24. I love Buffalo, such an awesome city. Although were I in charge of USA Hockey and ever had the decision on which of our cities were to host these types of events, I'd go with someplace like San Diego or El Paso. In other words, as far away from the hockey rabid fans of America's Hat as possible. ;)
