  1. Peyton (Hillis)!
  2. I think they can find a solid receiver in free agency. And I'm really wary of them taking Quinn. Not sold on Fairley, either. But then again I felt the same way about Clay Matthews a few years ago and look at him tearing it up in Green Bay. I guess I'm probably not so good at evaluating pass rushers, haha...
  3. Tomorrow's the Hillis Madden Cover announcement! Landing him on the cover would be really cool for this franchise... In other news, draft is Thursday, what's everyone thinking? I think the Brownies' selection hinges on what Cincinnati does. I'd love to land Peterson, but I doubt it happens.
  4. Back in the day, that building used to host some sort of Job Corps. right? Was that its immediate prior use? Anything else in the building during that time?
  5. Did DCS close that school down recently? I thought there were still students there when I was in school (as recently as mid-2000s).
  6. I greatly disliked Meyer as coach of Florida (well, mostly because I loathed Florida). But I agree with you, Tressel is Ohio State football and it's really sad that all of this may very well be his undoing because quite frankly he wouldn't be in this mess if those players weren't so stupid in their actions.
  7. OHHHH! So that's what's going on in that building! I was wondering what they were doing since I drive by it about 4-5 days a week. So they're aiming for an early May opening?
  8. URBAN Meyer OHIO State ;)
  9. Has anyone had a chance to check out the new addition to the VA Hospital? I drove by it last night and it looks pretty cool...
  10. Anything will be a nice addition to Brown Street, but the external design of the townhomes looks a little boring. Almost like the Lawnview Apartments design.
  11. I believe we have about 33 school districts in the county. I'd like to see that number cut down to about 8 or so. The idea of moving to one large countywide system is completely unappealing to me. I think it's essential to keep the size of the districts manageable and control closer to the people. But what we have now is completely nuts. For what it's worth, the ODE has the power to use carrots or even force to bring about such changes. They don't appear to have the will to do it, though. I've also thought about Graymayre's idea, too, in the past. It makes some sense, but is just much of a change for people to ever accept.
  12. I know a woman who was part of the research team at CSU that did this study. She wrote her PhD thesis on how the quality of neighborhood schools affects whether middle class families choose to remain in that neighborhood. She was also unaware that Tremont Montessori was rated "excellent" by the state last year. I blame the district for that. I think part of the problem in a district as big as Cleveland is that while there are a lot of good magnet school options, some of these have limited enrollment and other variables at play. Let's say you get your child into one of these schools, but if one small thing changes with funding or something else your child could be very easily forced to attend what is deemed to be a less-desirable school. I think that may be the fear with many families. In suburban districts, there tends to be more stability, less "shopping" necessary for schools, and families tend to believe that they're going to know what they're going to get. (Although I think back to the Coventry Elementary School closing in CH-UH as an example of how it doesn't always work that way in the suburbs, either.) Just a hypothesis.
  13. Looks like someone might be addicted to winning.
  14. One more thought about Oakwood Club. I'm not an avid golfer, and I don't know much about the course itself (what shape it was in, how it was doing financially), but one cool thing about its history is that it hosted the 1921 Western Open. That may not seem like a big deal, but at the time the Western Open was considered a "major." It's kind of sad that that little piece of history will be lost. Incidentally, the Euclid Club in Cleveland Heights also hosted a Western Open (in 1902), but those who know a bit about CH history will recognize that that club was torn down by Deming to build his Euclid Golf development. There used to be golf course where many of the beautiful homes along Fairmount now sit.
  15. Actually, it's funny you should mention that, those two areas remind me of each other a bit, although the one near Oakwood is much more hidden and limited in access. I think the road in South Euclid is called "Sheridan."
  16. Yeah, I've been back there, I just didn't know where Oakwood CC ended and their world began...
  17. I was listening to the radio yesterday and they said that Santana told reporters that he had never been in a slump like this before in his career but that after yesterday he felt like he was out of it. Of all of our big bats, Santana is probably the one I worry about the least. That said, Buster Olney was on Mike and Mike today and he told them that of all the teams he's had to do a 180 on that it's the Indians that are most legitimate. He also said that the Indians lineup is getting respect from his grapevine of MLB scouts as being "tough," and that Masterson's coming into his own and living up to his potential is what's going to really be a key.
  18. CC is making about three times as much as the Tribe's entire staff. Very cool stat, thanks for bringing that up!
  19. This team will contend this year for the central division...you can bank on that. If they make the playoffs...well then anything can happen. That's all I can ask for at this point. I hope you're right!
  20. What if it was only the library system at this point in time? As for the schools, agree to disagree.
  21. Since many of you who post here live in the Heights area, how would you feel about merging the CH-UH library system (or SH system) with the Cuyahoga County system?
  22. I'm really afraid to get excited about the potential of this team for this season. Just don't want to get my hopes up...anyone else feeling that way? My buddy and I were watching the game at a bar before the Cavs game last Wednesday and as he saw how intently I was paying attention he said to me, "I see what's happening here, don't get sucked in too deep, you know how this usually ends." I guess I'm just trying to enjoy the way they're playing at the moment and not thinking too much about the bigger picture.
  23. Good information. Those are some really nice houses and I'd hate to see them put in jeopardy in any way by this project...
  24. Great photos!
  25. What's the plan for these homes? I wonder what kind of a buffer will be put in place for those residents or if many of them will stick around for the development.
