  1. They're not interlopers, but they also shouldn't bump taxpaying residents. Do you see any problem with my solution for an alternate pricing structure on really busy days? Or do you think this current free riding (get it?) situation is okay?
  2. Actually I was thinking of Uber when that suggestion came to mind.
  3. So it's funded by a sales tax that is, again, only in Cuyahoga County and largely paid for by Cuyahoga County residents. That's a little better than other alternatives, but it's still not enough IMO.
  4. I'd take Bruce in a heartbeat. He's tearing it up right now and he's serviceable in right field. You don't need a Gold Glover in that position, and if he keeps hitting anywhere near how he is right now, the Tribe's pennant hopes become greatly improved.
  5. And here is where some of my anger stems. Many of the same people living way out in outer-ring suburbs, ride the train on days like yesterday yet don't pay to fund the system. These same people tend to vote for politicians that support throwing money at highway projects over public transportation. That's why I would strongly support raising rates across the board on the busiest days (except for people that have prepaid for passes well in advance and use the system all the time), or just raising rates on non-residents on busy days. If nothing else, let the laws of supply and demand do their magic on days when everyone wants to be downtown. Raising rates could mean funding for more staff on those days to then maybe allow them to put more trains on the tracks.
  6. I do think we should probably get a discount, especially on days like yesterday, because we're the people paying for the damn thing! Especially when they constantly point out that fares only cover something like 20% of operating costs. If they need more funding like they claim they do, maybe we need to start by asking residents from rest of the seven county area to start chipping in. Don't ask Cuyahoga County residents to subsidize rides for other people on big event days while we get bumped. Sorry if it sounds petty, but I use the Rapid at least a dozen times a year, not just for big events. They were begging people to use it yesterday and then they couldn't handle the crowds.
  7. I waited three and a half hours at the Green Road station for a train, which is fine, but two things really get my blood boiling: 1) Why would the RTA knowingly promote their service for yesterday knowing they couldn't handle that capacity? 2) Why don't county residents, who pay taxes to fund the system, get a fare discount? I'm not happy, but I feel the worst for people who rely on the Rapid year round, who got bumped yesterday for people that don't even live in Cleveland or Cuyahoga County.

How many people were estimated to be downtown Sunday night?

Good point. The crowds downtown for the RNC will be vastly different, and in all likelihood overwhelmingly from out-of-town. We're talking about potential black eye that locals will have little responsibility for. I was looking at some of the riots that have occurred in other cities after championships, and compared to those I am at least a little surprised that our celebrations were so incredibly tame. With such a large crowd, you'd think that the number of idiots would have been at least a little larger.

If I were the Cavaliers, I'd throw an offer sheet in front of Harrison Barnes.

Oh and when you're wrong, you're wrong...

They can be ordered here, too: http://www.ebay.com/itm/-/201607890010 That's a steep price, though. I may go out and about tomorrow and see if I can find one.
  13. Was thinking the same thing. They should run all night if the Cavs win...I'm still on the fence about going downtown, but if I do, I would take the Green Line, but I really want to know how late the trains will be running.

I think that watering holes across Northeast Ohio will be packed tomorrow; might have to head out a little before then to get a seat someplace. I'd like to be lubed up a bit before opening tip anyways.

For me, it comes down to this: I like my chances in a single game for the championship with the best player in the world on my team. If LeBron James is really that guy, then we're in good shape. If it's Steph Curry, well then the title goes back to Oakland. It's time for LBJ to assert his place in history.

I watched maybe four or five seasons of Shameless but stopped at some point because it just became too unrealistic. And some of the characters really became annoying in how they were so, uh, arrogant I guess would be the right word?
  17. Why was that U.S. Open Cup game at Jesse Owens?
  18. So I guess the question at hand is whether or not a city or village can hypothetically go the other direction.
  19. No very different. Townships are capable entities with pretty broad powers in Ohio. The county would probably need a bit of organizational rework (or at least rethinking) to take on EC. I doubt the current executive wants to do it. Well I'm officially confused. I realize that townships have powers (though limited compared to municipalities), but as far as I understand, townships exist by default. The areas that are Olmsted Township and Chagrin Falls Township have been such pretty much since Ohio was divided up along these lines 200 years ago. These townships and all others were purposely excluded from the incorporation process which turned other area lands into either villages or cities. I'm not sure if there's any precedent, but if an area decided to forgo its municipality status, it seems that it would simply go back to be a legal township.

I wouldn't really call that a blowout, in the same way that I don't think Game 1 was a blowout, though the Cavs were definitely in control throughout the second half.

Too bad I didn't find this earlier:

Well, last night was exactly what I was afraid of. Wednesday night got our hopes up and then they lose Game 4. I guess there's a chance that Draymond Green might finally be suspended for his dirty play (last night on LeBron), but even without him I can't see the Cavaliers winning in Oakland.
  23. So if the municipality were unincorporated, it would be on the same legal footing as Olmsted Township and Chagrin Falls Township?
  24. Thank you for the information, I did not intend for my question to come off as disrespectful if that's what you were thinking. I just do not know much about Canton or its major employers these days.

It's laughable that he would say such a thing. Two ways to look at it showing his hypocrisy: He's teammates with one of the dirtiest players in the league AND his team's offense is predicated on moving screens which they're rarely called for. If I had access to the NBA's video archives and a lot of time on my hands, I'd try to find video of every screen that the Warriors set in the lane (which is what Klay was whining about). I'm sure they've done it on numerous occasions, probably to his benefit. I'm not even sure Mosgov's screen should have been a foul. He was perfectly still and Thompson tried to run through it a bit. If Mosgov was 6 inches shorter it would have been knee to knee and they both would have been hurt. I don't think he was quite set, but I am also certain that Golden State routinely gets away with moving screens that are much more blatant.
