Cleveland: 2012 Democratic National Convention?
Who makes the decision on where the DNC will be held??? Certainly not Obama so I'm not really sure why you said that. Um, you don't think he has some sway? If he came out and strongly supported Cleveland for the bid, we'd almost certainly get it. I don't think he cares enough about us, however, but that's fine, because karma dictates that the state will turn red again in 2012. I disagree Why do you disagree?

Cleveland: 2012 Democratic National Convention?
St. Louis is actually doing pretty well, and it's one of the top 5 most Democratic cities in the country. While its rebound may have slowed down in the economic downturn, it's still getting better and better with each passing day. Greetings from Cleveland, by the way! It's always great to be here! I love St. Louis, I visit a few times a year. I'm not sold on the idea that it's doing all that great. Better than Cleveland? Sure, a little bit.

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
Great article, reminds me a bit of this from New York Magazine: http://nymag.com/realestate/features/49491/ Although it's about Buffalo, much of that is easily applicable to Cleveland.

That video almost makes me want to cry. I have no problem laying much of the blame for its demise on Mike White.

Cleveland: 2012 Democratic National Convention?
Good Lord man. Whatever the truth may be you don't want to hold up Youngstown to the nation as a symbol of Democratic policy success. The Republicans will take that one to the bank. Am I misunderstanding you? Sadly, I think you're right. If the Democrats want to go someplace to highlight their success stories, and if Beijing isn't an option, then they'd be wise to stay away from the industrial Midwest where their policies have destroyed cities. Their best bet is to go places that are thriving--or at least surviving--despite their policies. Charlotte and Minneapolis fit the bill.

Besides, Obama owes us one. He threw Pittsburgh a bone for their support by giving them the G20 last year, it's time for the big payback for Cleveland.

But on the flip side, they gain a feather in their cap when stars are willingly turning down money to play with each other. The owners don't have much of a choice. I found this article about Leonsis, owner the Washington Capitals and new owner of the Washington Wizards, interesting as he compares and contrasts the NHL and the NBA salary structures. http://www.nba.com/2010/news/05/21/leonsis.nhl.nba.ap/index.html A change is gonna come. And I can't wait!

He wrote an inaccurate article lambasting Cleveland last week, too. I honestly don't know how the man has a job, he's clearly missing a chromosome.

Cleveland: 2012 Democratic National Convention?
What reasons? I think I know where you're going with that, but I disagree. Actually, he has a valid point. DTW and CLE are democrat party strongholds. In a weak economy - and with the national press all but having written-off the "industrial mid-west", a convention here would only concentrate coverage on the performance of the party on economic issues for the last two years. Meanwhile, a republican party convention here, press coverage being the same, would give that a party a platform to present something alternative. Going against the grain so to speak. In order for democrat party convention here to happen, the region will have to be economically rebounding. Earlier in the thread it was mentioned that a convention in the midst of construcction woul be bad and embarrassing. NO... this is exactly what would be good in this case. The party could demonstrate that its policies helped make the rebound possible. Good points, but Ohio is still an important swing state, and all of the 3Cs are "Democrat Party strongholds." It's only when you start leaving the urban core (and this goes for Cleveland, too), that you start to see more Republican strength. If either party wants to come to Ohio (which I think makes too much sense that I'm surprised it hasn't happened recently), there aren't many options.

Z is over the hill. If he's their starting center, he's going to get pushed around by the likes of Gasol, Howard, etc. Also, the Cavs were looking to add Al Jefferson, but now it appears he's head to Utah. D'oh!

Call me an optimistic fool, but I still think they can make the playoffs, but they need another piece or two. Byron Scott is going to run with this team, and most of the players on the squad are well-suited for such a system.

Suggestions for a night out in Cleveland's Little Italy?
Most street parking is reserved for the valets during the evening, I believe. You can usually find parking on the side streets a short walk from Mayfield. One hour parking during the day for non-residents, and after 7 or 8 pm, no restrictions. I THINK.

In a few weeks this will all blow over. Especially if MIA has a blockbuster season. I doubt it. He spurned three of the biggest markets and his home state. People are not likely to forget his actions. They may not forgoet in the NE Ohio, but elsewhere they will. The world and more importantly sponsors love a winner. Yes, the press may be down on James right now (and Bosh and Miami for that matter) but if MIA starts winning titles and the TV rating are there and the NBA makes money and the sponsos make money and people buy the shoes, shirts and everything else then its all forgotten..... NOW, if MIA does anything less than a title in 2011, then I agree. No matter how many rings the Prince wins in Miami, there will always be a cloud over his accomplishments. Of course the consumption culture, bandwagoning American and international fans will probably eat it up, but true NBA fans and those closely associated with the game are never going to regard the Prince as one of the greats. That ship has left the harbor. I like the quotes from Charles Barkley, Reggie Miller, and Chris Webber on the issue...

In regards to the Cavaliers, I'm very hopeful about the future. Dan Gilbert remains committed to winning, and it seems like there are a few moves that can be made to help them in the offseason. I'd love to see them trade for Al Jefferson and then perhaps tender an offer to Josh Childress. Adding those two guys, and maybe a young point, and I feel like this will be a very solid team next year (though not a championship contender, but that's okay).

The Prince's game is unlike any superstar in the NBA. With just how physical he plays, his body will be breaking down faster than any of his peers/predecessors. When Kobe "lost a step," he learned how to dominate from the perimeter. I don't see the same happening for the Prince, especially now that he'll be in Miami where it seems he feels like he can relax and abdicate responsibility. Why would he work on his outside shot when he knows that someone else can play that aspect of the game for him? Why would he expand his game when he seems to believe that he doesn't have to be the man anymore?
