CSX also requested a sound wall be built along both the proposed NJT West Trenton & West Shore lines adding a hundred million onto each project... After today's derailment I can see why they want the wall. CSX in both cases wasn't unreasonable , the state should have agreed to the wall and the 110mph electrified proposal. Another big choke point that needs addressing is the single-tracked tunnel connecting Penn Station to the West Side line , the Single tracked bridge over the Harlem River which used to be double tracked.

CSX wanted New York State to build a wall between its tracks and the 110mph tracks... The State rejected this for some reason.. They were already starting upgrading the New York-Hudson,NY section to 110mph. A decade ago the tracks around Albany were upgraded to 110mph. CSX does use those tracks, so I'm not sure why they object to faster speeds elsewhere. The ROW used to hold 4 tracks in many places, so space isn't really an issue. Buffalo to Cleveland can be 90mph , which is only 10mph faster than today along most stretches.. I think a Blended corridor would be the best long term solution though I-90 bypasses a lot of Upstate towns & Cities and getting back to the CSX line will require the seizure of a lot of property. Amtrak has proposed upgrading the straighter sections of the Lackawanna corridor to 110mph , so you could probably upgrade the tracks up to 110mph to Binghamton , Syracuse & Elmira...the rest of the sections could be 70-90mph.. The Line via Port Jervis has the most curves and via Jamestown probably no faster than 60mph. Only the 110 & 125 option had complete separation from Freight , the 90 has a few pinch points and doesn't fully address the worst bottlenecks of the NYP-Albany segment.

The National Limited & Allegheny Limited would use the line to Newark - Urichsville - Rook Subdivison of NS and then one of the connector lines that feed into Pittsburgh Union. I have 4 trains per day on that route. The Shenandoah used an abandoned CSX line through the Northern part of West Virginia.. I read the FRA Mideastern report but there is only so many trains you can run per day if the journey end to end takes over 6hrs. If the line was upgraded to 110mph then you could reduce the travel times down to 4-5hrs instead of 8hrs...and then you could probably run 8-10 trains per day.
