  1. Allegiant Air announced nonstop service to Punta Gorda in Southwest Florida beginning October 30th. Fares start at $85 one way.
  2. BP Ohio Headquarters to Mahoning County (North Jackson, OH) Vindicator: http://www.vindy.com/news/2012/dec/18/bp-moves-ohio-hq-to-n-jackson/?print "BP Moves Ohio HQ to North Jackson" Business-Journal: http://businessjournaldaily.com/print/drilling-down/bp-drill-10-wells-trumbull-county-next-year-2012-12-18 "Abbuhl said that BP is looking to establish a long-term presence in the region, and developing this part of the Utica is an important step." More GREAT news for the Mahoning Valley!
  3. Merge this thread if needed, as I cannot find the previous Downtown Youngstown thread. Link: http://www.vindy.com/news/2012/dec/09/as-downtown-develops-costs-of-business-i/ Exciting times are hitting Youngstown again! How sweet it is!!!
  4. -Last week Dooney's announced they would be opening up in the spot of the former Buffalo Wild Wings downtown. -Today O'Donald's Irish Pub, currently in Austintown, announced they will be opening up a second location in the current spot of the Lemon Grove Bar downtown, which is moving to the former spot of the Rosetta Stone Restaurant downtown. If you don't follow me, that's okay. In summary, two NEW restaurants/bars are opening up in downtown this summer!
  5. Thanks to fracking and natural gas, we are making a comeback! Our economy has been the fastest growing in Ohio since early 2011. Since 2011, $2.186 billion has been invested here alone in the preparation stages of natural gas development. Once the drilling commences and the workers expand in numbers locally, you can really expect this area to take off. Let's hope CNN Money was right when they said.... "Youngstown is America's Next Boomtown!"
  6. It is still standing, but not lit up at night. In my eyes, it is an eyesore. It could use some new paint or something lol.
  7. I went out with a buddy of mine this evening to get some shots of Downtown Youngstown! He has a much nicer camera with a tripod, but I managed to get a handful of pretty nice shots... Enjoy!
  8. Big Sunday column in today's Youngstown Vindicator... Downtown Youngstown continues it's amazing rebirth! Read the entire column here: http://www.vindy.com/news/2012/jun/17/downtown-rebound-signs-new-life-youngstown/
  9. I'll try to get downtown more this summer to get more pictures!
  10. Work continues to progress on the Erie Terminal downtown. These are being converted into apartments geared toward younger professionals and YSU students:
  11. Warren Tribune-Chronicle: http://www.tribtoday.com/page/content.d ... l?nav=5003 YNG eyeing daily service to Washington Dulles with United. Article should say daily M-F and then once on Saturday and Sunday. The proposed CLE service is no more.
  12. 1400 Shale Related Jobs Created in Youngstown Already! http://www.vindy.com/news/2012/mar/08/shale-boom-gives-rise-1400-plus-new-jobs-valley/?fracking
  13. There are going to be exceptions to the rule, as we've seen in VERY ISOLATED cases throughout Pennsylvania... The vast majority, I would say at least 96-98% of people won't see any change with their water, but naturally a select few will face some problems. Remember the Penn State study found no significant relation between water pollution and fracking. If a few are affected, I am sure there will be things in place to provide them with clean water, etc. I am excited for the future of the Mahoning Valley. Sure the naysayers sight the low price of natural gas, but many feel to acknowledge the RICH WET GASSES in the Utica Shale. Remember the Utica is much more plentiful and diverse when compared with the Marcellus. Exciting times ahead!
  14. Why not enforce it with the two dozen Cleveland threads? Just trying to get Youngstown some love lol!
  15. The great news that is taking place in the Valley continues to get better. Sales tax revenues for Mahoning, Trumbull, and Columbiana County are up significantly over the past few years and the growth in the sales tax revenue, coupled with employment growth in the Valley, means the Mahoning Valley of all places is the "fastest growing area in Ohio" says George Zeller, a Cleveland based economist. Great news for the community: http://www.vindy.com/news/2012/feb/22/mahoning-valley-sales-tax-revenue-surged-2011/ GM bonuses + Growth in Youngstown Business Incubator + Infant stages of Utica Shale Development = PROMISING future for Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley! We could certainly use it!
  16. Downtown has been coming around for the past 3-5 years. In the past year, a few new restaurants have opened with V2 and Roberto's, both Italian joints right across the street from each other and both are doing very well! The apartments in the Erie Terminal are exciting as well! The apartments in the Realty Building are sold out after they decreased the rent to a more manageable $1,000-1,200/month. Great downtown pictures from the past few months: and and
  17. Not sure what that means. Southwest had profitable quarters during the recession. Allegiant (like most other carriers) also had an early 2000s bankruptcy before its current run of success. True, however Allegiant has been profitable for 36 straight quarters, no other airline out there can boast that record. The only two airlines I would EVER consider investing into are Allegiant and Spirit. Both have solid models and are poised to continue to be profitable moving forward.
  18. Big front-page piece in the Youngstown Vindicator on the advances made in downtown, but the lack of marketing that is taking place to drive even more people to this portion of town. Great read by Karl Henkel, check it out: Link: http://www.vindy.com/news/2012/feb/20/by-karl-henkel/
  19. There are plans for a hotel to be built in either the Wick or Stambaugh Building downtown once the Erie Terminal renovations are complete. Those are being turned into apartments for YSU students and young professionals. It will include a cafe, restaurant/bar on the first floor. The US Campus Suites owner Dominic Marchionda is planning it: http://business-journal.com/developer-envisions-wick-building-as-hotel-p19367-1.htm

  22. 63% Support Name Change for Airport Northeast Ohio Regional Airport came out on top VIENNA, OH - A total of 625 individuals from Northeast Ohio, Western Pennsylvania, Florida, and other portions of the United States participated in the YNGAir Partners Airport Name Change Survey which started on November 20th and ended on December 23rd. 23. What has Allegiant got to do with USA3000? What is the connection? Maybe this should merged with this thread? http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,15826.0.html The last line of the first post read: Great article, really speaks to the challenges of LCCs and especially these leisure-only airlines. I responded that Allegiant does quite well.
