Professional Boxing News & Discussion
Former undisputed world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson kick off his 'Four Round Exhibition World Tour' at the Chevrolet Centre in Youngstown, Ohio on October 20.----Nice to see Youngstown will get some publicity for once, although again its for a washed up idiot named Mike Tyson. On the first leg of the tour Tyson, 50-6-(44), will face veteran Cory'T Rex' Sanders in the four round exhibition bout. So why has the former baddest man on the planet decided to take part in four round exhibition bouts after being out of the ring for so long? "I was a little overweight, smoking too much, and I started to get in shape," said Tyson. "I was training in Las Vegas and 2000 people a day were there. Why not do an exhibition? Sterling (McPherson, promoter) suggested we do a world tour." Tyson's financial problems have been well documented and one could be forgiven for thinking he has signed for this world tour to settle his debts but Tyson insists he has other motivations. "The money I make (from this) isn't going to help my bills, but I'll feel better and won't be depressed," said Tyson. "Once I started training, the stress left. I can't believe I'm not slurring, I'm not angry. Life's lessons are priceless. I'm happy to be here." "I'm truly nervous. I haven't done this for a while." "I hate the business of boxing. When I said I hated boxing I meant getting to run and giving it the 100-percent you need." "I'm in better shape than I anticipated, I'll never be in the shape like I was young." "I'm extremely nervous right now." The Ohio card also sees the return of former IBF lightweight champion Paul Spadafora, who faces an as yet unnamed opponent. The 'Mike Tyson World Tour' will also travel to Europe, Asia and the Middle East and will be promoted by Sterling McPherson. McPherson had the following to say about the first show in Ohio, and of course Mike Tyson. "It's great to be back home. I grew up about 10 miles from here in Niles. This has been something we've been working on for some time. To put the tour together, it's taken time to mould it, and it'll get off the ground in Youngstown," said McPherson. "We're thrilled, Mike's ready to go. He's here. I have to thank Darryl Francis and Jeff Fenech for bringing to Mr. Tyson (with the idea for a world tour). You're going to see a great show. Mike has given me this opportunity. We are still in negotiations with Paul Spadafora. We're almost there and I think it'll be there in a day or so." "This tour isn't just going to be an undercard with guys knocking everybody out and then Mike Tyson. We are going to have a solid undercard with young fighters who want to be in good fights. That's why people put there money out." "You're looking at an icon (Mike Tyson). He was the youngest man in history to win the heavyweight championship. Then he went onto annihilate people. He's the second coming of Joe Louis, quiet at press conferences when other fighters talked big. Mike's giving me the opportunity of a lifetime. This tour is all about him and the people getting an opportunity of a lifetime to see Mike Tyson for $25.00. That's what he (Tyson) wants to do because you supported him. "This is a great step forward, starting the tour here. I was adamant about Youngstown and Mike supported me. Wherever we go it'll be up to Mike. I'll present all of the offers, all the economics, why we should go there, and Mike will make the call." The first leg of "Mike Tyson's World Tour" in Youngstown will be broadcast live in North America on cable and satellite pay-per-view beginning at 10:30 PM/ET, 7:30 PM/PT. The event is being produced and distributed for Pay Per View by Queensbury Media and Integrated Sports and will be available in more than 50-million homes in North America via iN Demand, DirecTV & Dish Network in the USA, Viewer's Choice & Bell ExpressVu in Canada. The suggested retail price for the PPV telecast is only $29.95.

Youngstown-Warren: General Business & Economic News
WYTV Ch. 33 in Youngstown has a new sister station: My-YTV apart of the new MY-Network TV. They have set up a new downtown studio in the reality building first floor. They do a weekday talk show from 3-5 that talks about ways to fix the community and has a number of major politicians on over its first 3 weeks. It also has just added a TICKER to the first floor of the building. This may be hard to see: But here is a picture of it: ----------------------------------------- WYTV GM Dave Trabert said he wanted to be apart of the revitalization of downtown over the next few years and a new downtown studio is one way to do just that! He says the new Chevy Centre as well as a number of new buildings and restaurants being built and/or opening shows that downtown is coming back.... I hope to get some pictures of this studio and of downtown over the next few weeks....

Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport
Amrapin... You are dead on. Akron-Canton is the 6th least expensive airport in the country and also top 10 in growth in the country. Asking someone in Akron to take a train to CLEVELAND is stupid! Trains FAILED In Youngstown, Airlines are producing all over the state, such as Allegiant Air at Youngstown. Sure its not a daily flight, but maybe the only way the YNG Airport will survive is with leisure flights.. so be it... thats why I'm pushing for Spirit. Where is your argument now!

Youngstown State University Penguins Athletics Discussion
You come out and say you'd root for Akron and Kent over Ohio State.... but you FAIL to realize YSU has an overall record over .500 vs. Kent and Akron---which usually means they are better. YSU has a better shot than Kent or Akron to beat OSU; but lets be realistic it won't happen! What will happen is the YSU game in 2007 will be the most competitive of the 3 for Ohio State... and you can mark my words on that. Akron and Kent are whimps for not playing YSU and for voting Buffalo in over YSU back in the 90s to join the MAC.... Whimps!

Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport
Wow, thanks CMH for putting those facts to gildone.... And my message to gildone. 3 Passengers a day, that is ALL That took at train out of the B&O in Downtown Youngstown A DAY! It has failed in Youngstown-Canton-Alliance and its not coming back! Aviation is the future, you can take an air taxi from almost any airport in this state under SkyTaxi..... Honestly GILDONE, Gimme some proof, like numbers, like I gave you about Youngstown, that would make Youngstown-Canton-Alliance for instance, a good place for a OHIO Train! You are pretty sad to make this such a big argument, The Ohio HUB is a distant oasis, something we will never see!

Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport
KJP, I do have knowledge and I am well informed, but why do you think rail will work now after failing for so long. You really think that if they brought rail back to Youngstown [which they won't] people will fled to the station to take a train. THEY WON'T! This isn't New York or Europe or the World, its Ohio. We have a wealth of highways to get you where you need to go in 3 hours or less in most cases, we don't need a railroad which you think would help. Aviation is at some of its highest levels ever and fares are at some of its lowest levels ever [inflation balanced]....... so why try trains now! When I can fly from Akron to New York or Boston for $49!

Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport
No... Thats far from what I'm thinking. I want to take the 10 minute drive up to the airport and have someone drop me off to fly. I would say hundreds by doing so. Let's face it, RAIL is never coming back! Why are you all pounding it like it will. AMTRACK Closed in Youngstown because they never had any passengers, while 140+ pack in a MD83 to fly to Florida. Don't gimme this bull Rail will work, it won't and it will never come back. Small airports are the future says Aviation Analyst Mike Boyd, who knows what he is talking about. Get back to me when the entire state has rail with packed trains, and then tell me I sounded stupid.

Most Dangerous Ohio City
I love this thread!!!!!! :))))) What happened to Youngstown folks and its 39 homicides in 2005? Or its 16 as of the date. Or over 100+ arsons this year? Come to our South and East side for one night, and tell me one of these cities or neighborhoods is as dangerous as that.... I doubt!

Youngstown crime and public safety
Trust me, we need it! Although we only have 16 homicides this year -compared to around 25 last year at this point- arsons and rioting is a daily occurance. Just last night a riot at a Taco Bell on the South Side got all angry and shot at the windows of the building, scary side of town at night.

AmrapinVA.. What airline do you work for? And passenger rail failed in Youngstown, kinda why Amtrak is out of downtown! The only rail I would like to see his high speed rail, but like I said before, it just won't happen. Spirit Air would take me to where I want to go in less than 2 hours, not 2 days on a damn train! Please all of you sign our survey! http://eguins.frihost.net/yngair/survey.html

Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport
Passenger Rail will be great, but lets be real: It won't happen and even if it did, it won't be for another 25 years! Secondly. We do have Allegiant Air at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport, but 2 flights a week is not enough. We believe if we can bring Spirit Air to Youngstown, more flights will come with more airlines. We want every single low fare airline in NE OHIO, and Spirit isn't heading back to CLE, or even going to where competition sits at CAK, they can get people from Cleveland - Akron - Pittsburgh all to come to YNG. Read my airport blog... Youngstowns #1 Blog: www.yngair.wordpress.com Thanks for your concerns!

Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport
My blog, The Fly Youngstown Blog, has been working to bring back the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport. We said we need Allegiant Air to come, they did. Now my blog is saying we need Low Cost Carrier Spirit Air! So we have released a survey for anyone in Northeast Ohio-Western Penna to take, a survey which will be given to Spirit Air executives. The survey: LINK HERE takes less than 2 minutes, and all the info is held privately, it will only be released to Spirit Air at an upcoming meeting. I have been told by the YNG Airport that we can bring Spirit Air to Youngstown, they have talked in the past numerous times. I know CAK is doing great, but adding another low cost carrier to this area makes air travel that much nicer. PLEASE FILL OUT THIS SURVEY, IT WILL BENEFIT ALL OF US IN CLEVELAND-AKRON-CANTON-YOUNGSTOWN-WARREN!

My error, I rushed to post it before I left. I like to hear your thoughts on downtown Youngstown and Youngstown in general as it transforms from mid 20th century infrastructure to the 21st century.

Link: http://www.vindy.com/content/local_regional/320873056113632.php YOUNGSTOWN — George Mager recalled hearing a lot of talk about how there were few restaurants available downtown for people who wanted to enjoy a meal. Shortly after a friend convinced him to do something about it, Mager found himself opening his own eatery at 120 E. Boardman St., and on Jan. 9, Cafe Cimmento became another new business to be part of what many say is a renaissance in the city.

Cincinnati Reds Discussion
That was great to see my favorite team blow it.. I am not gonna lie, I do not like the Reds, but once this series is done, I hope they can win the central, because that NL sucks, and at least you guys got an offense which can do something in the playoffs. As far as my indians... o what a sad year!

New indoor football team: the Mahoning Valley HitMen
First off lets make sure people realize Youngstown has 2 teams! AF2 ---- GREAT LEAGUE AT CHEVY CENTRE: Mahoning Valley Thunder EIFL ---- NEW LEAGUE WITH 4 TEAMS!!!!: Mahoning Valley Hitmen THE AF2 Team has legit owners while the EIFL team is run by a CON from Florida which ran illegal recruiting services in Florida and screwed 2 indoor teams in the past. Now he is calling the Thunder owners MOBSTERS... He is an idiot!
-
New indoor football team: the Mahoning Valley HitMen
First off folks, this team and league is a bunch of phonies who will never make it. The GM is a flat out asshole and wants to beat our the Bigger AF2-THUNDER.. Not gonna happen.. Trust me on this one, this team/league won't last more than 1 year.

Metro Youngstown: Road & Highway News
I'm telling you that because I-80/Rt. 11 Ramp onto I-80 West in Austintown is backed up every day and the I-680 Ramp is not... I'm helping you avoid the area. It does get worse down at the bridges, but unless you get off at 46 and hit Mahoning over Meander that way and get back on, then you got some long traffic tieups.

Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport
Just want to say that Colgan Air rumor appears not to be true. The President of Colgan-Bob Colgan, told me although they aren't in talks with Youngstown, its rumored United Express may fly a CRJ or ERJ regional jet 2-3 times per day from Youngstown to Dulles. Of course I've heard other rumors from insider sources I can't discuss, but thought I should let that one out... Thanks for the interest in Youngstown Airport and we hope to see you on our blog! Two more links for you. WYTV Story and Video Tribune Chronicle Story

Metro Youngstown: Road & Highway News
I think the I-680 exit at Tiffany Blvd. will work well since less traffic heading west onto 224. If not that, have only a limited number of roads that come off of 224 without any entrances to any businesses, have the entrances on the side streets.

Metro Youngstown: Road & Highway News
This construction is causing 2-3 miles of traffic buildup all the way on I-80 into Trumbull County... If you are going that direction take I-680 to the 7-11 Connecter and from there you can meet up with I-80 without any traffic troubles... Same way going back west.

Youngstown: The Incredible Shrinking City
Good news is, Mayor Jay is dedicating 1 million dollars of the cities budget to remove abandoned buildings, I talked with a few people running this project and a lot of it is this area of the city, many of these buildings on Oak Hill be demolished this summer or next summer.
