Ohio: Residency Rule Requirement
Our New Mayor in Youngstown decided in his 2nd week how important it was so he testified before the legislation: Panel OKs end to residency rule By MICHELE C. HLADIK VINDICATOR CORRESPONDENT COLUMBUS — Local government employees may soon be able to live anywhere they want and still keep their jobs if legislation eliminating residency requirements passes the Ohio General Assembly. The measure was approved 14-2 Thursday by the House Local and Municipal Government and Urban Revitalization Committee. Mayors or representatives from several Ohio cities, including Youngstown and Toledo, urged the committee not to pass the measure. Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams said the legislation is unconstitutional and would severely harm Ohio's urban areas. more at: http://www.vindy.com/

Will Akron ever get a sports arena?
Akron has the Q to the north; the Civic Center of Canton to the South; and the Chevrolet Centre to the east in Downtown Youngstown. So far its been a major success. In 2007 Youngstown will get an ARENA FOOTBALL 2 Team; the 2nd in Ohio. The arena seats about 6K for Hockey and 7K for Concerts..... It’s Friday Night, It’s Happenin’ in Downtown Youngstown
As do many.. I forgot to mention the Marshall Street Bridge Opened today connecting the lower west sides and the south sides to the downtown and they plan on renovating the Mahoning Ave Bridge parallel to this bridge; by repainting it; making it more pedsetrian friendly; and better lighting.. Also they plan on redoing the rest of West Federal from where they redid the new part of it; Phelps; all the way to Fifth Avenue. They plan to take out the current boulevard and widen it to add diagonal parking the whole way down the road for free for the mostpart.. Add lighting near the curb and that street is becoming a happening place. 1 more not.. The Rosetta Stone Cafe is scheduled to open this winter. Check out there site at www.rosettastonecafe.com and here is a blurb about it.. Rosetta Stone Cafe will be a full-service Internet Cafe and Gourmet Eatery. - The Cafe will have WiFi, workstation and laptop rental, computer classes, network gaming & events, and a business center with high-end PC and Mac workstations, copying, printing, scanning, & faxing services. - The Cafe will be open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, serving specialty coffees and homemade family recipes, with a full-service bar serving import and microbrewed beers, fine liquors, select wines, and handcrafted mixed drinks. - There will be live entertainment onstage and a cigar/pipe lounge with a wide selection of tobacco products.

It’s Friday Night, It’s Happenin’ in Downtown Youngstown
Back in the 70s it was made into a pedestrian plaza closing vehicle traffic; by reopening it you make room to a developing entertainment district and new growth in the area. Here is the main part of what is now opened: The arena seats 5,700 for hockey and 7,300 for concerts. Check www.chevroletcentre.com for event maps and future events which include Clay Aikens, Lil Jon, Disney on Ice, and MORE! The Reality Building: Is being turned all residential with the top 2 floors as deluxe 2 floor apartments and the bottom floor hopefully will get a sports bar with bw3's across the road. The need for restaurants is at a big high. Also the Wick Building is being made into apartments and dorms for YSU Students and others..That is in the webcam in the top image; its the tallest brown building.. If you want a directory of Downtown Businesses check this out: http://downtownyoungstown.com/forum/viewtopic.php?forum=5&showtopic=17#37 Any more questions you can im me on aol @ downtownytown THANKS FOR THE COMPLIMENTS

It’s Friday Night, It’s Happenin’ in Downtown Youngstown
From Business Journal Print By Dan O’Brien YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- It’s 10 o’clock on a Friday night, and the length of the downtown’s main thoroughfare is brightly lit by the headlights of a steady stream of vehicles. Pedestrians stroll the sidewalks as they take in an unusually warm November evening and others queue outside restaurants and taverns where they wait to be admitted. It’s Friday night, and the place is downtown Youngstown.

congrats to CAK.... I can't wait till Youngstown announces the deals with the 2 airlines they are in talks with. I do know where they'd go and they'd bring BIG TIME Competition to CAK-CLE-PIT etc. The one carrier is a newer carrier which goes to smaller cities out of its big hub and the other one; well the name says all and so does whoooo?

Watch video here of the pouring of the concrete: http://www.wytv.com/news/local/1752307.html?video=YHI This was a pretty big day in the construction of Youngstown's Convocation Center. But as Gerry Ricciutti tells us, workers are looking well-beyond the project's completion date. While passersbys can see daily progress outside the Convo Center downtown, the focus today was clearly on the inside. Crews spent the day pouring a massive, 4-inch-think concrete floor, for what will eventually be the center's ice rink. The process is both time-consuming and exacting. Convocation Center executive director Jeff Kossow says, "The most important thing to this process is a level floor, as you might imagine, when we're trying to make ice, in addition to a very smooth floor, so they've spent a long time preparing and getting ready for this day." Underneath all the concrete, a series of pipes almost 11-miles end-to-end where a brine solution will help maintain the ice. Concrete project manager Mel Starko says, "Its calcium chloride, like salt water. It flows through the floor, the reason for the brine is so it won't freeze. The temperature of the floor will be about 15 degrees Fahrenheit." While the floor will cure the next 30-days, work is well-underway scheduling events at the center once it opens in late October. Mayor George McKelvey says, "We're going to be rolling out the opening act, the Christmas act, probably within the next two weeks, the schedule will actually show, and the people will get excited, and actually be able to buy the tickets." This morning, we learned of a couple programs coming up. First off, the Youngstown Steelhounds hockey team will play the first two home games of its inaugural season on November 4th and 5th. Plus, a Disney-On-Ice show called "Jungle Adventure", which has never played in the US before, will perform the week after Christmas. Executives say there will be another event before those first two hockey games, but they're not saying what just yet.- Youngstown Convocation Center
