Other Countries: Passenger Rail News
Yeah, I had forgotten most of the article and only realized that I'd read it before when I got to some of the quotes midway and towards the end. It's a very nice balanced article with pros and cons represented.

Winter's Back in Ohio!
There's probably still 2 or 3 inches after the melt here in Aurora.

Which Ohio City Could Host A Superbowl?
What exactly goes on at a convention center during a Super Bowl? The only thing I saw on TV besides Ford Field was what looked to be some sort of mall atrium.

Super Sunday Blues: Detroit basks while Cleveland...?
Well, I'm glad that we didn't spend an additional $100 million for a domed stadium. I distinctly remember reading a forum (I don't believe I took part in it) that was talking about PBL's comments on Cleveland. I thought it was more like 105-110 million not 150 and especially not 150 Billion, hehe if only. As far as our publicity... People I meet seem either indifferent to ever so favorable impression of Cleveland, although most of them are twenty somethings so the whole burning river thing isn't ingrained in their heads. If there's something that people laugh about Cleveland it's the Browns win/loss record.

Winter's Back in Ohio!
I love hiking in the snow, Its one of those times I can be almost certain that I'm alone in the woods... With winds gusting, trekking through a foot of snow reduced visibility all around. If this storm kicks into gear maybe I'll go out tomorrow. I also love going hiking in the winter because the ground is largely frozen and in the swampy areas of Northern Portage County I'm less likely to come back covered in mud. Last year was just pure heaven for me with all that snow, I've really missed it this January; Here's hoping for a snowy February , hehe. :-D I've never like those weather advisory maps having always lived within a short distance from where Cuyahoga, Summit, Portage and Geauga come together. Always make myself do some little equation in my head about what I should really expect. As well as being in that weird little narrow part of the secondary snow belt.

Which Ohio City Could Host A Superbowl?
Something tells me that if hotel rooms is the reason that Cleveland can't host the Rock Hall inductions it's not the quantity of all hotels rooms but rather the quantity of high end hotel rooms.

Modern Roundabouts in Ohio
Twinsburg is also considering a system of roundabouts to manage traffic around their square as an alternative to adding additional lanes. I know you (grasscat) posted something a while back about Twinsburg putting in roundabouts in other parts of town as well.

East or West Side of Cleveland
I'm born and raised in Aurora, so really not an east sider by it seems most definitions but I certainly went to the east side for just about everything. Shopping, and spent a lot of time around all the museums around University Circle, as well as all the rides on the rapid lines for downtown events. Nothing against the west side but why would I go there? I don't go to Mentor for things either. Most of my time on the west side would be driving along my way to Marblehead. Something I always thought was dumb is that when my mom would meet someone from the west side of town inevitably she would insert the crack of "West Sides the best Side"

The great Ohio railroad station thread
hadn't realized the Geauga Lake station had been razed. Last I saw there was a enormous hole in the roof so there was probably no hope for it. Aurora's is on the National Register of Historic places, would have been nice if we could have saved the other as well.

Ohio Turnpike
See... It's already started... and this is just the beginning... this is only one man (okay maybe his whole election campaign staff but still a small amount of people)

Ohio Turnpike
What would the State of Ohio do with 8 billion dollars... well let's think of all the different ways states have used their tobacco settlement money. Sure a good portion went to treating effects of people smoking but lots of it went into vaguely relevant pet projects, not really making any great change at all... Which reminds me a lot of our good buddy Mr. Stark, and his philosophy of concentrating development to really make a change. If you split up 8 billion dollars into tens or hundreds of little projects we will net virtually nothing. As the landscape is today I would see no doubt that the money would be diluted in such a manner; so yes KJP, we should start now.

Argument settler: How "Florence Y'All" tower came about
yeah, I saw that when I reread my post but evidently I didn't bother to change it. My sincere apologies to the entire city of CINCINNATI... I'm not that dense it just happens... I've misspelled Cleveland and Aurora (home town) on forums before so maybe a running trend. I usually have to reread my posts 2-3 times so as to make sure things have gone from the brain to text correctly, either spelling wise or having sentences that don't halfway become new paragraphs.

Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
There probably should be separate slightly different campaigns for Suburban Cleveland and then What we would say send out to other metros. Just for example the one room apartment for $600 is not what I would lead in with for folks out in the burbs. Not saying that isn't a good deal considering where it is... it's just not what I'd lead with.

General Roads & Highway Discussion (History, etc)
ooo fun... although Twinsburg Twp Rd. is my primary way of getting to rte 8 currently; that is when I actually need to be on rte 8. I'm more excited about the wetlands/stream mitigation because Liberty Park is almost literally my back yard. I've done a lot of hiking back there.

Ohio: Residency Rule Requirement
I thought about this for a little while and there are definite benefits to having some type of residency requirement for various types of city employees, however it will vary largely depending on the physical size of the community, and it's economics. My mother is a teacher in Aurora and her younger colleagues will typically live in Streetsboro because of cheaper housing be it a home or apartment. As their careers progress and children become part of the equation they will usually move to another community Aurora, Hudson, Bainbridge, etc. In a city the size of Aurora physically and economicly if all the teachers had to live in the city then the younger teachers would all be hudled into a couple geographic areas of town. Plus Aurora is a small geographic area that isn't very dense so the same policies wouldn't make sense for say Parma, or Lakewood. Emergency recall might not happen in Cleveland but I imagine it would happen more often in a smaller community. so how should one go about enacting policies that do make sense for some communities but need to be (not)enacted/(not)enforced differently depending on the communities needs? sounds like HOME RULE to me.

Argument settler: How "Florence Y'All" tower came about
I find I can't drive past it without actually saying it aloud. My whole extended family lives in Kentucky/Tenesse... so I've driven past it a whole lot over the years It was the end of the face glued to the window part of our family trips... Kings Island, Downtown Cinci*CENSORED* (for your protection), Ohio River, and the Florence Y'all water tower.

General Roads & Highway Discussion (History, etc)
I would like a super overpass interchange over Macedonia of Routes 8 and 82 and I271... no exits in Macedonia except for lets say Chipotle and or Qdoba and the Movie Theater no where else just those three specific places, heh.

Cleveland Innerbelt takings: What we stand to lose (photo essay)
yeah, I personally have not paid much attention to this project with exception to the bridge and the side proposal of the UC "boulevard". Now seeing the rest of it I really don't like it, especially towards the northern end. It looks as though ODOT had one objective in mind and then said screw you all to anything that was in the way to the easiest way to accomplish that objective.

Streetsboro: Singletary House / Streetsboro Commons
Well, this is Streetsboro... the king city when it comes to approving anything that is an incentive for growth... sucking jobs from Aurora, Twinsburg, Solon, Mantua, Macedonia and I'm sure others. So I have faith that the building will be moved, sorta...

Cleveland Innerbelt takings: What we stand to lose (photo essay)
Can anyone link a graphic as to what "dead man's curve" would look like after it's "fixed"? The logic side of my brain goes crazy, every time I read something where the stated problem is that it's a 90 degree turn. It always comes down to how do you turn the highway 90 degrees without a 90 degree turn... I personally wouldn't mind the highway having a less degree of turn because either we'd have one really big pier or maybe even a bridge to Canada bout 50 miles long.

Cleveland: Ohio Technical College
Several of my buddies from highschool who were "gear heads" all went out of state for their training (Chicago and Florida), hopefully this type of project would give people in similar situations a reason to stay.
