  1. Ohh please god not "Millenium" or Millenia or anything in reguard to that... I don't think lakeview would feel right either despite seeming logical.
  2. 45% of all public transit riders... that just seems crazy. Just never read that stat before.
  3. The worlds largest aquarium opened just a couple of months ago in Atlanta, and it was primarily financed by a single 200 million dollar donation from a co-founder of Home Depot. I don't see where we'd come up with hundreds of millions of dollars for an aquarium of such a magnitude. I don't think it would really have to be windowless. There could be an inner and outer area of the aquarium with walking corridors and other non light sensitive areas on the outside. My favorite exhibit at SeaWorld was always the shallow water habitats that were housed in a building built partially over the water and was also more or less an open air exhibit. That would be worth the price of admission several times over for me if they would recreate something like that. Maybe if it's decided that the new convention center should be at TowerCity the aquarium could be an alternative use? Not an idea I favor for a site for the CC or an aquarium but if the situation presents itself, you make do.
  4. The DHL Airpark wouldn't really be an asset since they will expect " 'just in time' delivery" and that's just not how DHL operates. At least that's what I hear, heh...
  5. The outlot stores have left North Randall as well, the only things left are Sofa Express and the Jewelry Factory. As a resident of the SE side trust me when I say that people are more than happy to avoid Randall and drive to other malls. I for one go to Beachwood; mainly because I don't really buy all that much and if I have to be in a mall it might as well look really nice. I also am partial to two story malls and the curvature of the inside walking areas. My girlfriend on the otherhand likes to drag me off to malls like Mentor and ChapelHill, which I generally detest, mostly because I don't enjoy my aimless walking time there as I do in Beachwood. As far as redevelopment I really like the idea of a community college except that Tri-C east is right up the road. I have only ever imagined it being demolished or being converted to a casino should it become legal.
  6. I see the Wolstein project in the drawings... The office building was a last minute addition to the Wolstein plan because at the time we were in danger of losing DFAS. The heart of the plan is still there, you just can't see it as well because it's small in comparison to what is being proposed.
  7. I saw that there was now a fourth page and that KJP had posted and thought for a moment that it was Wednesday... so sad. this whole anticipation thing is killing me; although at least I'm guaranteed a good read.
  8. It's pop to me as well... 80% General American English 10% Yankee 5% Midwestern 5% Upper Midwestern 0% Dixie
  9. Well, since Poker is always on ESPN it must be a sport, and there's this one guy that I saw the other night that the announcer said was from Aurora, Ohio. Jim Thome still maintains his home here as well, saw him in town Christmas Eve doing some last minute shopping. He's not from here as in born raised etc but it says something that he hasn't just left entirely (yet). They're maybe not professional technically but somebody should pay the Godale brothers (Mark, and John) for all the distance running races they compete in. They do "mega marathons" as in 100 mile races.
  10. I don't find it as interesting as I do damn scary.
  11. Well hopefully the retail would be all those things that I've heard that downtown residents still need. A couple more casual dinning places, movie rental, book store; as well as be an extension to the Warehouse district / New East Bank as a regional nightlife attraction. Wish the rendering didn't have all the twinkling lights. It would be really cool if instead of a Sheraton that they'd put a W Hotel (a sister brand to Sheraton), but very unlikely. That of course assuming the whole hotel thing is for real to begin with.
  12. That's quite exciting, I wasn't really expecting a phase one but rather just lofty proposals.
  13. I think Stark would consider the e4th Gateway area as "not big enough"
  14. To me Charlotte seems like a shopping mall with skyscrapers, looking at charlotte for just the skyscrapers it's quite impressive but when I see it through GoogleEarth you can see the obvious differences between the cities.
  15. HA... Now I gotta go find that post I did a week or so ago on the Cleveland.com forums backing up Stark saying he hadn't had enough time since his coming of age earlier this year. Awesome... Plus I've gotta stop over thinking about any possible metaphors I might be missing.

I still don't completely follow why traffic would have to be completely shut down; Maybe extremely hampered but why completely shut down? Step one Build Bridge... step two Build roads leading up to bridge... step three connect the dots temporarily like they've been doing I71 for the last eon or so... step four, blow up the old bridge and everything else that isn't needed... step five start building more permanent ramping, freeway lanes etc.

I don't know if this would be feasible but my solution would be to put one or two elevators on each side of the main ave bridge and let people walk on the existing truss structure then take an elevator down, put in a set of stairs as well... Seems like it would be easier than anything else... would certain state and federal agencies let you do that... probably not... inevitably someone would say you have to design a completely new bridge... For the question of who would operate the bridge... well, we do have homeless people... we could give a homeless person a job as well as a home in the form of a little bridge shack. But then he'd be a public employee so that pretty much screws everything has to pay into SS and insurance and all that other BS.

well... if odot gets it's way some type of truss bridge with some decorative architectural elements so they can call it a signature bridge. If many other people get their way it will be some sort of cable stayed bridge, because that's the only thing that can be "signature" or "original" anymore; because we all know we have way too many suspension bridges in Cleveland. (a little rant that's been brewing for some time) Or really it's to be determined at this point.
  19. What exactly would a "Medical Mart" be? and why would we want one on one of our malls?
  20. We couldn't go and improve Chester and Carnegie now could we. Looks like there's plenty of "opportunity" there when I'm on my way to UC.
  21. For whatever reason the Wolsteins are running ads about the "new" flats... A guy walking along the river with little sketched buildings... Start of a public relations battle I suppose. It had a sort of believe in Cleveland tag line.

How the hell do you raise $9.64, and what do you spend it on?
  23. Stupid newspapers making me subscribe what utter BS... but anyway here it is Posted on Tue, Jul. 05, 2005 Cleveland looking to revive Flats entertainment district Deserted east-bank buildings could be demolished in $225 million project By Thomas J. Sheeran Associated Press CLEVELAND - Backers of the riverfront Flats nightclub district, a premier regional attraction until drownings and rowdiness took a toll, hope a $225 million development and a shot at casino gambling will lead to its revival. Carolina Martin, who grew up in the 1950s and used to walk from home to watch the ship traffic along the winding Cuyahoga River, thinks the mix of condominiums, bars, restaurants and offices envisioned by Scott Wolstein will make a big difference. 24. The Ravenna Ordinance Plant aka the Ravenna Arsenal is definitely not accessible unless you're part of the National Guard contingent that uses the land or part of the cleanup/dismantling of the facilities there. It produced weapons primarily in WW2 and was a key location for the development of period anti-tank rockets. The footprint of the facility is indeed massive. If you look at a map of Portage County you'll notice that there's a whole lot of nothing east northeast of ravenna. Found a quote that I thought somewhat funny from the Museum of the Open Road "Today, it's the focus of a clean-up operation to make the area safe and non-explosive" some history/pictures: http://www.ohiotrespassers.com/arsenal.html Some Facts: http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/facility/aap-ravenna.htm Couple Pictures: http://worlddmc.ohiolink.edu/OMP/Previews?oid=2533567&results=12&fieldname=xml&sort=thedate&searchstatus=1&hits=1&count=1&searchmark=0&searchstring=&format=yourscrap&searchtype=kw&scrapid=6766&p=1 Currents Events: http://www.cpeo.org/lists/military/2005/msg00055.html
  25. The Lake Erie Western Basin is THE best place to fish on all the great lakes... and it's really not even close otherwise. There are some rather absurd statistics that I have been told in the past to the equivalent that more fish are caught there than the rest of the great lakes combined, and the like. May not be true but lets just say the fish are biting.
