teaches the Nimbys a lesson. Before fighting a good development, just think what you may get stuck with if you kill it. I would much rather have the apartment complex than the hotel, but the hotel will be easier to get through despite the Nimby opposition.

I would tear down the smaller tower. I think that is in worse shape than the bigger tower. Build a new 600-800 room hotel on the other site. Remodel the taller tower. add a ballroom /meeting space over the smaller tower footprint.

The floor height is an issue as the real problem it creates is with the bathrooms and plumbing. You cant quite build the modern bathroom people want now a days. The hotel reminds me a lot of the SHeraton in downtown Indy near Monument Circle. They are similar aged hotels. On the outside it looks fine, but you go inside, and there are so many structural limitations that keep it from really being a much more modern hotel. If you are going to build a world class convention hotel, you need to do it right. Otherwise, you are just putting lipstick on a pig. New skin is an upgrade but will never make it a world class hotel.

personally, going North would be the only way to expand, you don't lose any street presence since that area is a cavern anyway. Tunnel under to the highway. Close off the entrance to Central Ave on that side and make that way the entrance to 75. tear down the garage and tear down the Pure Romance building, expand the convention center that way.

I sort of liked the idea of building a world class hotel to the South of the Convention center and then letting the Millenium still operate as a mid priced downtown option. As a convention hotel, it is a dump. However, as a mid priced downtown hotel, it would serve that market fine in its present condition.

The money quote "The hotel would be demolished for a new development, which could include a hotel" Or it could include the new downtown Super Wal-Mart and Meijer. I know Vandercar has lots of experience with that type of development.

But Jake, is it even worth it to consider an expansion over Elm Street now that the 84.51 building takes up 2/3 of that block. It seems like an expensive expansion for not that much growth and no room for future expansion.

But wasn't that the idea before the 84.51 building was built. It would have made sense then because you had the entire block to work with. Now, you would only have 1/3 of a block and it hardly seems worth the trouble then. If you expand across Elm street, you still are small and now you are boxed in that direction for further expansion. THe amount of space you get is pretty small for a large convention space. I just don't see that happening anymore. I could see going South over 5th street or more likely be better to go North over 6th.

I am a bit torn on this. 1) If they tear it down, there is a big hole in hotel rooms in the area for 2+ years until the new one is built and could hurt traffic during that time , whereas a new facility opening would not cause any interference with convention traffic. 2) The footprint seems small for a convention level hotel by today's standards and would they be able to support the convention center with additional meeting space in this footprint On the flip side, if they don't build on the new lot, it gives a perfect spot for future convention center expansion in the coming years but, is that really a great spot for convention center expansion (it would kill off anything west of that block from a street level standpoint (which makes a hotel a much better development for that spot) Personally, I was all for building a new hotel in the lot, leaving the Millennium as a low price option in the city, and having a good 5* option on the west side of downtown. Also, giving people a reason to travel to that part of downtown beyond the residents who live there. and spurring development on that lot.

Downtown currently has 1) Planet Fitness at Banks (along with a few other gyms in town) 2) AMC on the Levee (walking distance to downtown 3) Kroger at Court and Walnut (Opening in a month) 4) No Old Navy 5) No LL Bean Store (but there are other boutiques) 6) No Crate and Barrell (But how many downtown's have them) 7) While Mitchells is not there, there are other salons 8 ) No cycle bar but there are comparable places in town. 9) Pies and Pints at the banks 10) there are other Japanese and Itialian dining establishments and other places similar to Matt the Millers. SO based on your list, outside of the few trendy retail places, Downtown already has everything else.

I wonder if the suspension he faces will impact things at all? Since this is his 2nd or 3rd fight this year, I imagine the suspension may be at least 5-7 games. Also Pittsburgh has been doing this for years, the league needs to really come down hard on them. The entire NL Central has been calling them out for 2 years on this and nothing changes.

Banks has more of a game day feel for it. OUtside of that, there really is not a great vibe there. OTR has the neighborhoody bar vibe to it. Bars at the Banks are more touristy or have that feel to them where the OTR bars have more that Authentic feel to it.

Honestly, it does not matter the location, so long as it is downtown, but this needs to happen. The benefit of the Banks is that for larger tourneys you could use PBS or GABP club levels as overflow and it is right there. You could do other things in that general area to create a hub instead of a one off space. But this needs to happen somewhere given the growth in the industry.

So this NEEDS to happen. It is a no brainer. It has led to huge convention business around that business. Tons of people go downtown because they have developed as a hub for NCAA and amateur sports. Hell, the NFL combine goes there every year for really no pertinent reason beyond longstanding history. This could be Cincinnati's chance to get in on ground zero of this burgeoning industry and create something that would make the area a destination for people in the region and entire country.

I remember seeing an investment perspective about 4-5 years back about this great company EBTH. THeir young late 20 something early 30 something owners who took over this sleepy auction house were going to make it the next Amazon. I could not help but think how. What they were pitching had huge overhead and employee costs offering little in automation and slim margins. Not at all surprised it failed.

THe great news about Columbus is that you are only 90 minutes from Cincinnati and many of the great amenities that you were used to in Virginia. If the family liked Kings Dominion, Check out Kings Island, they were developed by the same company and are similar to each other in many ways. As for arts, definitely check out the vibrant arts community down there as well as the brewing community and scenic views that will remind you a lot of the Shennendoah Valley. The sentence had nothing to do with her being black. It had everything to do with the fact that 1) she made a complete mockery of the trial and showed complete disrespect to the Court and judge throughout the trial. Her behavior was contemptuous. Now that alone is not the sole reason why she was in jail, but 2) she was a member of the judiciary so she is also going to be held to a higher standard, just as members of the bar would be. If any lawyer acted that way before a judge, they would be in jail too. So no, being black has NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.

The sad thing is that she has so many defenders who neglect the fact that she was completely unqualified for her position and the only reason why she is in jail is because she wasted so many resources and held utter contempt for the court proceedings that brought her to justice.

I like the idea of the staircase, but it would be better if it ran the entire length of the front.

When I see photos from this angle, it always amazes me how seamlessly the Covington towers appear to fit into downtown and you how you cant tell that there is a river between them
