  1. That seems like a hell of a stat, that Bush had approval ratings lower than Trump currently does. Especially considering how strong the economy was in 2006... The Iraq war was going poorly, support was waning. Bush was blamed by the left and right on Iraq. Remember the USA Today add with General Betrayus. Also, you cant forget about Katrina which was only one year prior. Gas prices surged through the $2.00 gallon threshold which was unheard of before that time. This really put a lot of pressure on the economy. Also, the early fissures in the housing market were starting to develop at that time. Finally, you also had a lot of Congressional scandals with Tom Delay and other Congrressmen that was frustrating the electorate on the local level (Ohio had the Taft admin and coingate scandal) . You don't have nearly the amount of Congressional scandal now with GOP Congressmen that was going on in 2006. There was a lot more going on besides an unpopular president too.
  2. People compare this to the 2006 cycle but there are some differences. In 2006 Bush had an approval in the mid to high 30's and was still sinking. In 2018 Trump is in the mid to high 40s and is flat or slightly rising depending on which poll you see. In 2006 the makeup of the legislatures and state maps were very different. In Ohio for example, there are many more safe districts now than 2006. In 2006 the GOP base was uninspired by Bush and were not interested in turning out to support GOP candidates. While the reliable suburban voters turned out in 2006 because they always turn out, the more rural voters stayed home or less educated GOP leaning voters in the exurbs stayed home. The Franklin County GOP who supported Bush turned out regardless. In 2018 the Trump base is still very energized. They love him in Trump country and while suburban voters are turned off who were solidly the GOP base in 2006, there are a lot more of Trump base to replace disaffected suburban voters like myself and YABO713[/member] to take our places. I don't think it Is as clear as what the media may be predicting ,although I still think the Dems may take the house, I think the media is still has a bit of a confirmation bias that it is falling into again and reading into things a bit too much and stuck in the echo chamber. At the same time, it is also important to recognize that the forces which allowed Trump to ascend to the WH were essentially razor thin in the states he won. The thing the media misses is that those states are pretty still reliable Trump country, but it has turned a lot of other more moderate states off from the rhetoric coming from some areas of the Rust Belt and Heartland which can hurt the GOP there in areas they would otherwise have won.
  3. I don't think it's meaningless - it's a preview of November in Ohio. This was supposed to be the first appearance of the "blue wave" here, and it's didn't materialize. Democrats will face similar challenges in Ohio's other Republican districts - they might get a bit of a bump and chip away at Trump's margin of victory, but not enough to flip the seats. It was +12 Republican district. It's been Republican for 35 years. Now it's a toss up. That says something. Yeah, it says " they might get a bit of a bump and chip away at Trump's margin of victory, but not enough to flip the seats." If Democrats couldn't flip this seat in Ohio, what seats do you think they will flip? Most of Ohio's Republican-held districts had similarly large double-digit margins in 2016. Democrats won't have the resources to flood them all in November like they flooded this one. I'm genuinely not worried about Ohio. Nationally, based on historical trends, I'd expect Republicans to lose a few seats but I'm not all that concerned about it. The Senate almost certainly won't flip. They can likely flip any seat that is less than R+12. There are a lot of those. Senate likely remains Republican because of who is up for election. But ted Cruz is starting to have trouble. WHere the Dems will win the house is not in districts like the OH-12. It will be taking some of the CA seats that were held by retiring GOP candidates as well as winning a few in the Philly burbs and Mid-Atlantic GOP held seats. OH-12 and OH-1 will remain GOP but the votes will be a lot closer than normal in November. I tend to agree with Ram that the race will be much closer than it normally has been but still will remain GOP. I think the Dems take the house but it is going to be based more on some coastal districts going blue.
  4. I think the OH-12 stays GOP in November, it was a special election so this was the best chance for a motivated Dem base to shake things up. In Nov more GOP voters will show up who skipped will come out in Nov. It will still be a close race but not as tight
  5. ^If you are afraid of mold, don't go outside.
  6. ^ Mold is essentially harmless but people were whipped into a frenzy about it 15 years back because of a few reports on people getting sick. for over 95% of people it is harmless. The only reason why this died down was insurance companies refused to insure against it anymore. Funny how the hysteria goes away quickly when people have to pay for it themselves.
  7. I cant wait until city council cuts the funding to Josh Spring's organization for this clown show.
  8. This is a culture changer. I remember my junior year of college we cut a kid from the team who undoubtebly would've led us in tackles and sacks. He had a sh***y attitude about everything. Although we lost an unbelievably talented OLB, the team and culture were better off. By the way, he transferred to an FCS school afterwards and was kicked off that team as well. I don't know much about COleman, but did he have a bad attitude?
  9. The only thing I can think about Coleman is that he was never Hue's guy and was one of Sachi's picks. Hue may only want his guys and now that he is full control, it is his guys or bust. We shall see. Definitely not great asset management on paper though.
  10. People need to vent. There was a crowd that rallied outside of Tressel's house when he was fired. It is cathartic.
  11. When I went to Toledo many years ago, it felt like a theme park. We entered through a bridge and castle like setting and the town seemed like it had no streets until the occasional car whizzed by and you realized that narrow alley was actually a main thoroughfare.
  12. ^ Most obnoxious fan bases are all in the SEC from what I have seen - Florida, LSU, Bama fans are all obnoxious. Mich State fans are bad although less so because they have not won much. Wisconsin fans are a bit obnoxious too from my experience. OSU is definitely in the top 5-10 of obnoxious fan bases (and I am a big OSU fan), but would not say they are the worst by any standard as I have seen far worse. That being said, I will take my sons to a Notre Dame game any day and not have an issue but will not take them to a game at Ohio State until they are at least 10 years old.
  13. Whatever happened to the media reporting on the story instead of trying to make the story. I have no issue with McMurphy's breaking this story, however, what annoys me is that he is taking the events and news and spinning a narrative that is a bit misleading and completely tramples over due process rights. It is good to believe the victim, but at least look into why the situation in 2015 was handled as it was.
  14. ^ Don't know, don't care. It wouldn't happen in Indian Hill because they know how to make the problem go away without anyone knowing it in Indian Hill. In all serious, it does not happen in Indian Hill because it is not a population center with people walking by all the time. There is not the transportation or other means to get there along with other logistical challenges. That is why you never see it in Indian Hill.
  15. But the bigger problem with the people on the street in Cincinnati is that the people want to find help. Many people do not actually want help for their addiction.

  17. The new media narrative is that he should be fired because he kept him after 2015 when these allegations arose and that it was irresponsible to allow him to coach young players when he allegedly beat his wife. I find this to be a horrible standard to hold people too. Yes, Smith is a piece of trash if he beat his wife. Courtney's story is compelling, but we also don t know all the facts, and we also do not know the history about her and Zach. Due Process is something that society seems quick to cast away. It would have been irresponsible to fire Zach in 2015 based on the allegations of his ex, without further investigation. If that further investigation proved inconclusive, you let him continue coaching. It appears that the 2015 incident proved inconclusive. That happens more often than not. Even though what he allegedly did may have been horrible, you don't take away someone's livelihood based on allegations that are not proveable. Everyone deserves Due Process. The media has made up their narrative to hang the guy and now hang Urban. This is irresponsible if we are a country that values innocent until proven guilty and would rather let 100 criminals go free than to put an innocent person in jail.
  18. unfortunately a judge says you need the 72 hour notice, so you have to do that. Arresting them does not help. The only way is to continue to frustrate them until they give up.
  19. So is the new addition going to front 3rd street or Main?
  20. It is going to be a battle for a while, but if the city keeps giving them 72 hour notices, enough of them will get frustrated and just go somewhere else where they will not be harassed.
  21. I read the same rumor on the message board. Said she called 911 dozens of times saying he was beating her/chasing her, and he was on campus at the time. At the end, 911 stopped sending a car. Powell police apparently testified on Zach's behalf at the divorce hearing. The woman allegedly freaked out when Zach was going to lose his job because that meant her child support (means of living) was going to drop way down as she doesn't work. All this is total rumor mill of course but if it's true at all, it would explain why none of the other coaches' wives did anything when she was texting them all... Even when you are telling the truth, if you have a veracity to exaggerate, it is reasonable why someone may not take your claims seriously. A long time ago we rented an apartment to a crazy lady who used to call all the time about her abusive boyfriend amongst other things. While the boyfriend thing was concerning, she also said that people were spying on her through her TV and accused me of bugging her apartment (which was obviously untrue). It became almost a daily barrage of messages at one point about how people are snooping in her place, her boyfriend was hitting her and the landlord was stalking her. It got so bad that she even called the police on me and accused me of yelling obscenities at her from the hallway when in fact I was out of town. We tried sending a mental health professional to evaluate her one time but she refused to let them in. The police quit taking her seriously too because she made up stories. However, shortly after all of this, her boyfriend did come back and beat her so bad she ended up in the hospital. While I felt bad for her, it was her propensity to exaggerate and make up stories that kept us from taking her domestic violence claims seriously. It can be very reasonable for Urban or anyone to dismiss her claims given prior history and her constant problem with exaggerating the truth (if that is the case)
  22. Filing a police report is much different than pressing charges or having him arrested. A police report will not go on his record and nobody is ever notified of a police call. in order for the University or coaching staff to find out about it, they have to regularly call the police department and ask if there have been any police runs or fire runs to the house of its coaches. It is not unreasonable that the school would not find this information out because you regularly need to be inquiring about police calls to a home address. Also, all you get with that is a 2-3 line police blotter with very little detail to go off of. So the fact that the university or Urban should have known about the 9 prior calls to the house is very misleading and overblown. Also, if she had the propensity to call the police when there was no emergency, it is easy to overlook some of these calls meritless.
  23. I can see that as a realistic outcome no matter how unsubstantiated the rumor is. I think regardless, it is pretty evident that Zach Smith is an a$$ who has issues and beat his ex wife. That being said, we know nothing about her personality and if she, as people speculate was bat sh$t crazy, and knew how to push his buttons to get him to react. In addition, while she is likely credible in this situation, was she credible all the time when dealing with the police and others.
  24. ^ I can believe it. Remember, he is Earle's grandson, so they could have been visiting on Earle's behest
  25. I remember those winds, They were brutal in the fall and winter. I think the biggest flaw with the Plaza is they should have oriented the Erieview Tower on 9th to be closer to the Downtown Business district instead of on the following block. The nice thing about the Galleria building is that it connected it better to downtown as opposed to the outskirts of town.
