Ohio Education / School Funding Discussion
As long as the Ohio Republican Party is against all regulations and transparency for charter school financing, the Republican Party is effectively encouraging corruption. absolutely, the GOP fails students in this area and they need to have safeguards to protect against this from happening. However, to blindly say charter schools and school choice is bad because of ECOT and that the money is best served in the public schools is just blinding agreeing to the teacher's union propaganda. Like everything we need competition and checks and balances.

maybe a regional rail system, better bus service across town.

SHort term with the stadium, it is not wise to narrow Liberty. Need to make sure other transportation infrastructure is built first before such an endeavor is done.

Ohio Education / School Funding Discussion
School choice works when there are proper safeguards in place. When you get rid of the safeguards everything can become corruptible. The only good thing about when a charter school fails is that there are options for the kids to go to take its place. When a public school fails, people are stuck with zero options.

Ohio Education / School Funding Discussion
As bad as this is, I still favor charter schools, because when this type of thing happens in a charter school, people have another option. The school will close and they can go to their public school or another charter school. If public schools were the only option, when corruption happens, people have no other options or choice but to put up with a corrupt and failed school system.

And I thought the big announcement was that they were turning the zoo into an urban game reserve.

Cincinnati/NKY International Airport
That is always true whenever an airport dehubs. You rely on one carrier for so much volume and it leaves a void which takes time to fill. You go from an over served market to an underserved market and it takes a while to get that true equilibrium. Same thing happened in Pittsburgh 20 years ago.

Cincinnati: Evolution and Changing Perceptions of Urban Neighborhoods
People talk about being scared to go to the soccer stadium in the West End because of crime. I mean, District 1 Police HQ is right next to it, I don't think there are too many murders in front of such a busy police presence. If I were looking for a safe place to build something, next to the police station would be a pretty good choice.

Subway's biggest problem is that they have been a listless ship after the death of their founder a few years back.

Columbus Crew Discussion
I thought the trend was to build urban stadiums in a walkable area. THis is a light industrial area with a Taco Bell. Maybe marginally better than the Ohio State Fair site. Don't know why MLS would approve this.

Columbus Crew Discussion
^ Exactly my point, beyond Brew Dog, which is doing it for publicity, and MLS would not allow them to purchase the team because of lack of adequate capital, I have not heard other viable names in the rumor mill. YOu would think Wexner or someone in the Shottenstein family would step up and talk about getting a group together.

Columbus Crew Discussion
I wouldn't say "things are not looking well," if anything his comments are fairly vague and ambiguous. There is this key quote, though: This seems to be one of the Crew's main stumbling blocks/areas where "business metrics" could be improved. The Jackets, OSU, and even the Clippers enjoy strong corporate support and sponsorship throughout their stadiums and marketing efforts. Hutnington, Value City, etc. Meanwhile, over at Crew Stadium, you can see that the corporate support is a bit lacking or driven from smaller businesses. I've heard speculation that a lot of this ties back to Hunt's efforts to lure an NHL team with John H. McConnel. When McConnel and Hunt had a falling out and Hunt established the Crew as another project (while JHM went on to secure the Blue Jackets himself), supposedly corporate bridges were burned and very minimally repaired over the Hunt family's ownership. When J. Anthony Precourt entered the scene, there was a chance to do more. Yet, it's been clear he was never really interested in making an effort. Hopefully the STC movement shows that there isn't just great and vocal fan support, but that business community can step up too. I think the more pressing thing to watch for now is Austin and how/if they approve a stadium site. So far, PSV's overtures have been less than stellar and not very well received. It just seems like the lack of a local ownership for over 23 years has not allowed the team to connect with the corporate community the way the Clippers and Jackets do. Also, it seems from what I see posted and read that ultimately, the hope to save the crew rests on whether Austin decides to move ahead with the stadium. If they don't, the Crew stays. I don't see this as a powerful position to be in. Now again, I am not in the local market, so I don't know the rumors in the Columbus corp community which was why I asked.

Cincinnati: West End: TQL Stadium
^ Given the popularity of womens soccer in Cincinnati and the professional players who have come from this area, it would be a natural fit. IT will mean the stadium gets used another 20 times a year too, and cover the overhead even more. It is probably part of the business plan. Heck, they may even give Heather Mitts an ownership interest

Cincinnati: West End: TQL Stadium
Jake - I think you are reading into it. The quote said they looked at a number of sites and they looked at Nippert. It was already revealed they dismissed Nippert and the renovation of Nippert as a viable possibility. The other sites were looked at as well. West End showed to be the best site for all parties involved. I think the article it not well written and therefore, the inference you are making, while reasonable is not necessarily accurate.

Columbus Crew Discussion
^ can you speculate on anyone? I am not in the market so I don't hear the rumors. What do you hear? To me, the only thing I have heard is the local brewery guy wants to buy them but that does not seem feasible. Do you have any reasonable leads you may be willing to share?

It sounds like the key is having someone with the deep pockets in Columbus to buy the team and provide the needed sponsorship. Are there key people in Columbus willing to take this on?

FC Cincinnati Discussion
I have just heard her conduct herself on some pretty softball interviews and she just comes across as a deer in headlights. I may not agree with Quinliven or Landsman, but at least they know hold their own in an interview (Quinliven doesn't count because she is media trained professional) but I respect Landsman for coming across as knowledgeable on an issue even when challenged. Dillingham is just awful.

Michelle Dillingham is going to harm her candidacy with her actions. I had really never heard of her before this FC Cincy issue and the more she talks the more she sounds like a moron and hurts her credibility.
