Cincinnati: 2017 Mayoral Election
You are correct, but in the long run, wasn't that the right decision for the city?

Cincinnati: 2017 Mayoral Election
Now that is a bit disingenuous take on his record. In 2001 it was the right decision to move low income housing from OTR and distribute it throughout the city. You needed to remove the concentration of low income housing if you had any hope of gentrifying it. Now that OTR has what appears to have developed a critical mass, it is appropriate to bring low income options back to the neighborhood to help maintain its diversity. If Cranley did not push those actions in 2001, we may not have a viable neighborhood in OTR today.

A college basketball bribery scandal leads to arrests of 10 people
Louisville is a toxic place now. Pitino had maybe 2-3 more years before he retired and then they would have been able to poach the hottest young coach in the country or an established coach the level of Calipari to continue the basketball factory. In 2 days they went from royalty to the outhouse. Now, no respectable coach would consider going there because with everything that will happen to them, it will be a long time before they can actually compete at a high level again. They may get a washed up coach who wants to continue their career, and have to overpay for them to do so, but their brand just went kaput overnight.

Housing Market & Trends
In some markets that is true. In Dallas and Charlotte and Nashville for example rents have been flat or are decreasing because it was overbuilt. Columbus and Indianapolis had some overbuilding too and that has flattened things out at bit. In Cincinnati, the market has not reached equilibrium and it was slower to build. Rents are still rising here and there are opportunities for repositioning in the inner ring.

Ridesourcing
This is an example where market forces will overwhelm what bureaucrats are trying to do and Uber will be back in a few months.

Cincinnati: University of Cincinnati: Development and News
Brutus_buckeye replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & Construction^ cant see it transformed into housing it. Too small for much of that, plus it is a unique construction given that it is a wrap around a 1920s building. Best thoughts it is gets leveled because it is functionally obsolete for any other use.

Cincinnati: 2017 Mayoral Election
^Cunningham is more of a right leaning libertarian in real life. He tows the party line on his show but he has definitely evolved from his labor attorney days.

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
^ but has Milwaukee annexed a lot? If Cincy or Cleveland annexed like Columbus, those numbers would look much different and tell a better story. Look at the Metro areas to get a truer picture of city size

Cincinnati: City-County Merger, Annexation, and Local Government Structures
I thought I remember that one of the motivations of repealing the estate tax was to coerce some of the non-viable or barely viable communities in the city to merge. The benefit was that it would help streamline muni taxes because there would be fewer different reporting districts and make Ohio a better place to conduct business.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
WHile I think we would be a long shot for this, the more I think about it, we would be a good location for Amazon talent wise. The one thing Cincy has for it is that it is probably one of the top consumer product cities in the world. With P&G and Kroger both HQ'd here there is a ton of talent at those too companies that would matriculate into the marketplace. Given that Amazon just bought WHole Foods, there is a ton of talent here with grocery experience; they want to grow their consumer product reach, so why not pull talent from where the top global consumer product company is located?? Market research and analytics? 84.51, Dunhummby, Neilsen are all huge players with major operations and divisions based here. While Cincy may lack the software engineers and programmers that Silcon Valley or other "tech" cities may have, it is misguided to think Amazon will require that in their talent pool. Amazon is not a tech company like Google or Facebook is but rather, Amazon is ultimately a consumer products distributor. They rely on tech, but they are in the consumer product business. Hence being in a consumer product city would be a potential advantage to them. Just my 2 cents

Owning Rental Property in Ohio's Cities
Licking their lips?? Banks loathe having to take property back. They are in the business of lending money. Foreclosures hurt them in numerous ways. THe last thing they want is to repossess the property. Most landlord policies have a condition for lost rent that pays the landlord money for an uninhabitable unit. Also, if the tenant has renters insurance, the landlord may be able to claim here too. Most of the landlords will be Ok

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
^ The transportation and infrastructure is there already. It can be closer to a major airport than most locations in big cities are. Lack of rail should not necessarily be a deal killer. THe streetcar offers the fact that there is an impetus to getting it done and building out that infrastructure when required. However, unlike a city like Chicago or Boston or Atlanta or Dallas where those are must haves, right now it is a nice to have and bus service can be increased to cover short term demand. As they build out, then better rail becomes a must have. Also, it can lead the way for a rail line from the HQ to the airport. Point being, rail is not a necessity, ease of access around the region is. SO far, we still have that in Cincy.

2018 Gubernatorial Election
If Cordray had about a quarter of Springer in him he would be tough to beat. He would be a great candidate for the Dems but he is not the most outgoing personality and will struggle connecting with SE Ohio voters. However, none of the other Dems in the field have name recognition nor do they really have the pedigree to win on the state level either. Pillich could win a lower office possibly in a good Dem year, but she really has no shot of governor.

2018 Gubernatorial Election
Enquirer had an interesting take on Cordray and Springer. Springer would play well to the rural voters who have turned GOP in the age of Trump but that may turn off a lot of suburbanites who remember Springer as the king of trash TV and no substance.

^ This is a dead issue now. They closed the door on moving it over a year ago now.

Governor John Kasich
I was a big Kasich supporter for presidency last year. He would have been relief from who we have now. I just cant see him winning. Maybe if an independent can catch steam, but you figure the clown shows on the right and left will pretty much control the messaging and air time making it hard for a moderate to create a message that will resonate on a third party platform.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
Cant see WOW being able to compete in the CLE market with Iceland Air and the business travelers. Only one will likely survive. To be honest, Cant see them doing to well in Cincy either. If I were a traveler looking for a gateway to Europe, I would fly Delta almost every time and have amenities as opposed to have an 8 hour flight on a no frills carrier. Flying from Ohio to Florida is one thing. Flying transatlantic or to Hawaii is a whole new ballgame.

Dunhummby was offered that space on the Banks but they preferred the 5th and Race space instead

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
^ I think it depends on the client. If you have a large creative client you definitely go to OTR. See Empower as a perfect example. If you are a traditional fortune 500 or law firm, the Banks is the obvious choice for these companies. I think downtown is getting product that can cater to all types of businesses now. I have a friend whose worked for a small venture fund in town whose company was taken over by a west coast company. They needed to find new offices and the parent company said they did not want them to get a space in one of the office towers downtown because it was boring and not their culture. They could not find space in OTR so they went to Hyde Park.

How do you know the purchasers are under 30? They made a comment on the radio that they had a lot of interest from young professionals coming in from out of town who are interested in the area and work at Med Pace.
