  1. There is the Peterloon Estate in Indian Hill. I hae no idea what the requirements to rent that place are. French park is nice for Weddings (I think that is part of the park system) Devou Park in KY is good too. The Bankers Club downtown rents to non-members as well. There is nothign going on there on weekend nights so I think they may give discounts.
  2. So it appears the "Ren Center" Louisville will be built after all

well, that's true, but in this case the law DOES exist. but, the law also requires an enforcement mechanism to be defined. the state is basically saying, business owners shouldn't be caught in the middle until the enforcement mechanism is clearly defined. so, an owner who allowed smoking IS breaking the law, but in the interim, the state does not plan to enforce the law. Yea but a disgruntled non-smoking patron can still sue the bar owner for exposing him to smoke which is currently against the law. Just because a bar owner does not have criminal liability, he still may be held liable in a civil lawsuit.
  4. maybe it would be a perfect area for a whole foods, that is if they dont go downtown.
  5. I thought I read that Fridays would be on the 4th street side of tower place down by the McAlpin. In that case, I think it will be far enough removed from the square such that it does not cause it to lose its character. Plus, chains are always a draw for tourists who are afraid to step out of their comfort zone. In that respect I look at this as a good thing
  6. Even though there may not be a criminal penalty for not enforcing the law, a bar owner may still have civil liability if a disgruntled customer complains, since it is still a valid law on the books right now. By not enforcing it a bar owner may be buying themselves a lawsuit if they are not careful
  7. They say the Prime n Wine fire was suspicious because the place was going to be torn down when they were going to redo the Old Kenwood Mall to turn it into Sycamore Place in the mid 90s. Prime n Wine was located in an area that would block the view of the new "gateway" facade. They did try and reopen Prime in Wine in the late 90's early 2000s in the old Hotel Mexico spot (now Ruby Tuesday) but the overhead of the new place and changing retail scene did not prove successful so it closed after a year or two.
  8. Mixed-use plan for Montgomery Bear Creek Capital project includes retail, office, residential and parking Cincinnati Business Courier - November 24, 2006 by Laura Baverman Staff Reporter Bear Creek Capital has entered into negotiations with the city of Montgomery to build a $70 million mixed-use project on Montgomery Road near Ronald Reagan Highway. Click on link for article. http://cincinnati.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/stories/2006/11/27/story4.html
  9. The red Cross needs an area with a lot of parking, (free parking) for its patrons and a large enough lot to serve as a staging area for their work, I doubt the new location will be downtown.

I never said AW was a bad airline, just that it never had the strongest financial footing, evidenced by its own bankruptcy filing in the 1990s

They were in bankruptcy a few years ago and then were acquired by America West. America West took the name US Airways, so this USAir is actually America West, who was never the strongest airline to begin with either.

Didn't US Air chairman in the Money article say that Charlotte and Salt Lake will remain as will Atlanta along with the other existing USAIR hubs? Kinda seems like they already know where the cuts are going to come from if this goes through and it looks like it will be in cinci. It just seems that this deal makes little sense for USAir anyway. They are going to take on a lot of debt to do this deal and if the economy turns south again, they may find themselves in bankrtuptcy from this, that will not be good for anyone.
  13. It was in Norwood where the Central parke office complex sits today. It abbutted the lateral and began at Montgomery Rd and ran East for about a half mile. In addition, on the other side of the highway, where Neyer is building his new office complex I believe they used to store some of the cars there before they were shipped to market.
  14. But it may help home values for homeowners in the area
  15. yea, that works fine for business travels who need to spend a few days in town because their job requires it but again what would make the liesure traveler from lets say Indy or Pittsburgh go to Cbus over Cincy or Clevelan if they were just looking for a quick getaway. Essentially from a liesure standpoint, what does Cbus have to distinguish itself?
  16. seriously though what about columbus distinguishes itself as a place to spend tourist dollars from out of state, especially when stacked against the other cities in the region, notably cleveland and cincy For example Arts: Both Cleveland and Cinci are better in the fine arts areas Zoo: columbus has an excellent zoo but so to the other cities Sports: Cbus is lagging on professional sports, a draw to get tourists in the area. museums: again, less than the other cities amusement parks: Cleveland has geauga Lake and Cedar Point is nearby, Cinci has Kings island. Nature and Parks: It seems as if the other cities have a much better park system in place and in addition, have more scenic beauty than the flatness of Columbus. Shopping: this is the only area where I would say columbus would have an edge over the other two cities.
  17. Lets face it, if I had to choose between which Ohio city I would want to spend a fun-filled tourist weekend in, Columbus would be 3rd on that list only slightly ahead of Dayton. Columbus tourist attractions = yawn
  18. Columbus has a long way to go before it approaches Clevelands metro population, it still has to catch Cincinnati. I think one of the reasons why Cleveland gets more positive press and for a limited amount Cincinnati is the pro-sports. As stated above, in the 90's Cleveland had the new Rock Hall, along with the flats and on top of that they had a new baseball stadium with a team that was winning consistently. The baseball team gave the entire city positive energy, and it iminated out regionally and nationally. People watching highlights on ESPN saw Cleveland as an exciting place worth checking out and, they were able to sell the city off the positive energy from the winning baseball team. Cincinnati has that to a certain extent with the Bengals now. Indy has that with the Colts. I was living in Cleveland in the Mid 90s and Columbus back in 2002 when the Bucks won the NC and now I am in Cincy, and I must say that the buzz generated locally and regionally by a successful pro-sports team is much greater than it is for college and contributes to a positive vibe about the city. Lets face it, people around the country know of places because of their sports teams. A team that gets a lot of air on ESPN people associate with the city. Unfortunately Cbus lacks in that area because Hockey and Soccer do not sell as well as the other sports. OSU football helps but it is not the same as a professional sports team. Besides the fact that Ohio State does not have Columbus in its name limits the association an outsider would have with Columbus.
  19. You take Cunningham too personally, his show is not a news program, it is merely entertainment. Air America is the same but on the liberal side. The goal of both are to get ratings, and if they influence the idiot masses, so be it. These shows are no different than ESPN Radio or Jim Rome (who I personally feel is hilarious). If you want real news and political debate, listen to NPR.
  20. now not to disrepect columbus, but C'mon now, if I were planning a vacation or even weekend trip to a destination, it certainly would not be to check out the sights and attractions of Columbus (outside of OSU football maybe). But that goes to my second point, if Columbus wants to attract visitors it needs to bring in events to do it, it cant rely on its permanent attractions to sustain it. For example, Indy, a similar city to Columbus. Both are rather plain, flat, and ununique but Indy does quite well in the tourism area because of their connections to the NCAA (and Indy 500). Indy recruits the big events i.e. Final Four, Big 10 tourney etc. This gets people to visit a place they could really care less about. Columbus needs these types of events to help its tourism since the city really differentiate itself otherwise
  21. what are the chances that if Issue 3 passes that the law could be amended or changed in the future to include casinos in Cinci and columbus?
  22. Busken's is good
  23. Hathaways in the Carew Tower makes great milkshakes (I dont know the hours though). I know there used to be a place in the 525 building skywalk but I am not sure if it is still there.

the smokers should look on the bright side. If issue 5 passes, it will give them more of an incentive to quit. After all, it seems like most smokers would like to quit but it is too hard. However, if it keeps getting harder on them to smoke, it will make quitting that much easier on them.
  25. I am sure a Saks, or Nordstrom will move in to take its place. Belk would not fit well in Kenwood, the name sounds too cheap for an upscale mall (especially since everyone outside of the South probably does not really know anything of it)
