Cincinnati: Downtown: Convention Center / Hotel
I am curious how effectively the new hotel could integrate their ballroom with existing convention space and ballrooms.

I love the bottom 5 floors of the Portman and how it integrates with the street and neighborhood, but the top floors remind me of just large hotel projects like the Omni in Louisville and just scream mid-tier market to me.

Miscellaneous Ohio Political News
The case that led to this mess was a gross miscarriage of justice. Issue 1 helps reset things to where they were before. It still gives judges discretion in setting bail, but it allows them to take into consideration the risk to the community of letting the person out. If it is someone who has a high recidivism rate and has had other violent crimes in the past it makes sense to provide a high bail because of the risk to the community that they will commit another crime while out again. It is common sense standards. Really should not be a major issue. The OH SC was wrong when they ruled on the bail issue over a year ago and this just fixes their mistake

Do the renderings contain a height or list potential number of stories? I was not sure. It seems the Matthews design is taller than the Portman one but is that really the case or more of just how the rendering appears?

I like Matthews because it provides some height to the Skyline, but I keep coming back to the Portman design because of how it integrates on the bottom with the neighborhood. I am a bit torn. If Portman were about 10 stories taller I would think they would be the best hands down.

2022 U.S. Senate Race
That has less to do with Ryan or Vance and more to do with the overall electorate breaking Republican at this point. If both Ryan and Vance had R behind their names and it was merely a preference for a candidate, Ryan would likely win big.

2022 U.S. Senate Race
Logically speaking yes, but I do not think that is the narrative we will see in the media on the national dem side.

2022 U.S. Senate Race
Ryan would have lost to Dewine too, but he would have made it closer. He would not lose by 20, Ryan would lose by single digits probably 5-7 points which if handicapping it, would be considered a win, or overperforming. If Whaley meets expectations she loses by 10-12. If she doesn't she underperforms and was a bad candidate.

2022 U.S. Senate Race
If Ryan loses, the biggest fear is that many on the Dem side will err and say that he did not emphasize Abortion or Jan 6 enough and run to try and energize the progressive base in the state. I will never understand that line of thinking. Look at how Ryan is running and where he stands vs the campaign Whaley is running. Whaley is running the tried and true Dem playbook campaign and is getting her clock cleaned. Ryan is running as a moderate talking solely about the economy and outperforming expectations in a race he would normally not be close at. Yes, I know Vance is a bad candidate but Ohio is a red state. Look at a Whaley add and it focuses on guns, abortion while Ryan has focused solely on jobs, jobs, jobs. Want to know what wins in Ohio, it is jobs.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
He did a good job or of building it. He developed Michael Dean Perry, and a few other key guys to make them a playoff contender pretty early. They had Ray Lewis and Jonathan Odgen scouted and were planning on drafting them even before they announced the move. The late 90s browns would have been a juggernaut if they stayed.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Moddell still wanted to find a way to keep the team although the financial vice was closing in on him. He ended up having to sell to Boscotti shortly after moving the team to Baltimore. Lerner wanted the team, and thst was his first preference but Lerner wanted to move the team to Baltimore. He ultimately did not care what team he owned but his first preference was to own the team in Baltimore. After he lost out of a couple other ownership deals and expansion for Baltimore in the early 90s he cozied up to Moddell given his company’s strong Cleveland operation. His plan was to convince Moddell to move the team and be the financial backer and trusted advisor to allow him to own the team when Moddell was ready to sell. After he pulled the trigger on moving the team, Moddell and Lerners friendship soured and he was now on the outs to get control of the ravens.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
The league should have stopped the madness. But at the end of the day, I am a bit sympathetic to Moddell. He was drowning in cash and looking for a lifeline and was unduly influenced by Lerner who ultimately wanted to own an NFL Team and ultimately wanted to own a team in Baltimore. He was positioning himself to be in a position to get control of the Browns once Moddell had to sell and if Baltimore did not have a team, it is likely Lerner would have moved them to Baltimore at that time.

Actually, the culprit for getting rid of the Browns was Al Lerner. Moddell was just struggling financially, he let Lerner push him to move the team to Baltimore. The person who is responsible for pushing the Browns to Baltimore was Al Lerner.

I do not think there were any phenomenal upgrades, but remember, you could have the same as Brissett and you keep all the draft capital you squandered to get Watson and you can replenish the roster in future years to keep up (and maybe draft a franchise QB in a year or two as well)

Why would the election matter? It does not concern city council. The only potential change would be Smitherman beating Dumas and I cant see how he would throw up much of a roadblock on the hotel?

Cleveland Browns Discussion
I was speaking to my father over the weekend. He had been a Browns fan for about 60 years. Grew up In NE Ohio and remembers the days of Jim Brown and the NFL championship teams. Growing up, he would always make us watch the Browns games on TV even when the Bengals were on in market by getting an antenna strong enough to pick up the Columbus or Dayton signals. Part of his Browns fandom died when they moved in the 90s but he still quietly kept his Browns loyalty. Last weekend he officially announced he is a Bengals fan now because the Watson deal was his last straw. He is sick of management and how they continue to screw things up and their ineptitude of running the team. He longs for the days of Art Modell and the desire to build a winner. He has not seen that in 20 years.

Just curious, what is the big problem with temporary parking lots, and where do you see that Cincinnati has a problem with them currently? If you go to Louisville, Columbus, Cleveland, Dayton, or Detroit, I can get such a need to limit parking lots. There are a lot more open spaces and parking lots spread through the center city. Cincinnati is still very dense. I do not notice the huge seas of parking there as much as I notice them in other markets. It also seems that over the past 20+ years the parking lots in the center city have become fewer - Casino took out a huge lot, Kroger filled in a lot, The Blonde took out a lot, The Banks project pretty much filled in a sea of parking. The lot on 5th and Plum is going to be a large hotel, 84.51 bulding replaced a big lot, Foundry was a lot for a few years that was redeveloped. 14th and Sycamore replaced a parking lot. Everywhere you look, it seems that parking lots are being redeveloped. Why isn't this a solution in search of a problem?

Isn't the RFP for the hotel project due in today? I wonder how long it will take for them to announce the results? Curious to see how many parties are going to bid on this project?

It makes me question the logic of the Watson decision even more. When your team is built to win, why waste so much capital on a franchise QB that wont help you immediately. They knew he was facing a lengthy suspension when they acquired him. They would have been better off trading for Matt Ryan, Jimmy G or even Teddy Bridgewater or even just rolling with Baker for 1 more year. The team was too stacked in every other position to waste a year and in 2023, they may not have the same composition to compete like they did this year.

It is a parking lot until something else will get bit there. I would rather have a parking lot than a building that is falling down and unsafe. I temporary parking lot for a few years is better economic use than just empty private land that will just generate litter. At least as a parking lot, there is incentive for the owner to provide more upkeep. Otherwise, it can get weedy and such. And remember, a parking lot is not going to be permanent. THe land is too valuable to just tear down buildings for parking now. This is not the 80s anymore. A developer can come by with the clear land and use it to build a bigger project going forward. Same with the old OTR Kroger lot. Parking lots are not permanent they are just there until something better can be developed. Parking lot is no different than what has become of the project on Liberty that is being held up by some OTR Nimby's. They are both empty blighted pieces of property. The parking lot is easier to maintain though.

2022 U.S. Senate Race
I admit when I misread the info. BUT the point is, after 1 week of early voting, you really cant tell much about the numbers. To speculate what things will be like after a week of early voting is silly. Get a larger sample size and then draw conclusions.
