  1. Here is a good link to measuring capacity of a market to absorb new teams. I would not consider this scientific or authoratative but rather a quick and dirty way to see which markets have the best possibility to ensure success for an expansion team. Note, it shows Cincinnati and Nashville as markets that did not have capacity for an MLS team, and Nashville does not have capacity for an MLB team yet they are trying to get one, so it does not mean it wont happen or cant happen. The key to having any team in a given market is a billionaire owner who wants them in that market. https://www.bizjournals.com/bizjournals/news/2015/04/09/capacity0.html
  2. new arena is certainly preferable however, if ther is a taxpayer component, it may actually make sense to enclose PBS. You figure the taxpayer is going to be on the hook for major renvoations to PBS anyway in the coming years. The downside is the stadium has limited uses given it is only really used for the Bengals. If you are going to spend $500 million on an arena, maybe put it toward a major reno of PBS and then add a roof and increase the ROI of PBS. Not the perfect solution and does not solve the concert problem but could have other benefits.
  3. I don't think using the footprint of the old arena is a great idea. The new arenas have much larger concourses and much more spacious. Part of the problem with Heritage Bank Arena is that the concources are extremely narrow. YUM Center or the T-Mobile Center in KC are probably better footprints to start with.
  4. There is a need because the old arena is very outdated and large acts pass Cincinnati over because of it along with large events like NCAA, etc. Also, large conventions such as GOP/Dem convention or even other large trade groups incorporate arena use in their conventions. A perfect example of this is Wintrust Arena in Chicago as part of McCormack place. Kansas City did this years ago too, in hopes to get an NBA team, but that did not happen yet So, yes, there is a need but does the need outweigh the cost? So far the answer has been no and the taxpayers are not too enthused about doing so. It will also be a heavier lift here as the taxpayers are likely going to be on the hook in the coming years for major renovations to PBS. Which then begs a separate question. Instead of talking about a $500 million arena, would it be a better bang for the buck to: 1) Enclose PBS with a roof - Allows to have many of the same events (but may be too large) 2) Enclose TQL with a roof ? You can have the final 4, Super Bowls, College playoff, etc. at PBS with a roof which gives that venue a lot more action. Downside is that it may be too big for convention space but I am sure things could work there.
  5. I cant see an arena going in the West End. It would make most sense by the convention center as part of an expansion there but I dont think they have the room in that area to build it there. Riverfront would work, but without a major tenant in the building the finances do not work out as well. At least as part of the convention center project you can get better/more use out of it through convention needs. The other area where it could work, especially as a private owned facility is at the Casino and part of the Casino. They would still need to have enough events to fill it, but it could be used to justify bringing a bunch more people to gamble on a given night, it could have hidden benefits to the Casino company. The third place where it could work well is in Covington at the old IRS center adjacent to the NKY convention center. All those spots offer access to get on and off highways and parking nearby without overtaxing roads with thousands of cars on event nights. I just can't see how this gets done without another major league tenant or college team to play full time there. UC and Xavier just renovated their places, NKU has a nice place, NBA is not coming to Cincy, especially wiht Indy nearby and Louisville trying to make an NBA push too. Maybe Cincinnati can steal the Blue Jackets from Columbus but I just don't see the hockey demand down here. So I do not know how an arena gets done, unless it is part of a convention center project of some sort.
  6. Even if it does matter, Bonds should still be in. His numbers were HOF worthy even before he started juicing.
  7. It would have to be a public/private thing and cant see a public component without the convention center aspect. Cant see a standalone arena without a permanent tenant either private or public. Combined with Convention center gives space for large arena gatherings and can be used for non-sports related events (like Indy uses LucasOil sometimes). But outside of major concerts, NCAA Tourneys, Conference BBall Tourney's, maybe a preseason NBA game what other events would be able to fill it up at a premium rate? You also would need to figure that any new arena downtown would still compete with Heritage Bank arena on the concert front & minor league sports just like Heritage Bank used to compete with Cincinnati Gardens. Smaller/lower budget arena concerts may prefer the old arena because of cost, same with minor league sports like the Cyclones. Therefore, that leaves the Convention center site in Cincy or the one in Covington which happens to border the IRS site for an arena (not to get too far off topic).
  8. When you say Urban Core, do you mean Ohio side or does that include Kentucky?
  9. Regarding 3CDC, why did it take them until now to do this. Why not last year when they were tearing down the hotel. They could have been letting 3CDC get their plan in place a year earlier. Seems like a lot of time was wasted in this step?
  10. Haslem does own the Crew. Maybe he will choose to Consolidate his teams in Cleveland one day
  11. It was a cool gesture. Definitely helps him to win over the fan base.
  12. My question is what exactly does this mean. The Court invalidated the educational funding like 20 years ago and really not much has changed. O'Conner essentially said for Ohio to pass an amendment to have a non-partisan commission draw the lines. That is the long term solution. But...... The court cannot mandate that. All the Court can do is send it back to the legislators to make minor tweaks and essentially submit the same or very similar map. I feel this decision is more or less a phyrric victory at best.

Easily explainable as to why JD Vance is struggling. He didn't play high school football!! Unlike Gibbons he did not score 4 touchdowns in a single game.

He is from Middletown Ohio and hardly a carpetbagger. Not quite the same thing but that is irrelevant to the point about Gibbons. It may garner him votes in some niche circles but I cant see him getting the nomination from that. I think he turns off too many mainstream establishment types who are actually more inclined to vote in the primary. Gibbon's problem is that he is late to the game. If this were 2020 and he could run on Trump's coattails then maybe a Trump proxy in Ohio. The Trump voters who lovvve Trump would loyally show up to vote for him in the primary. Where I believe Gibbons miscalculates is that Trump is not on the ballot in 2022 nor does he hold any power. Given that, are the populists who were essential to the Trump uprising going to show up for the primary to push someone like Gibbons over a Vance or Timken? I tend to dobut it. They may show up more in November to check the box for the GOP candidate running against the Dem candidate but they will likely not be motivated to show up for the primary without someone like Trump at the top of the ticket. Now there is a caveat and that would be whether or not someone like Renaceai gets traction in his attempt to primary Dewine. If he can get a surge there, it may help a more populist Senate candidate in the primary like a Mandel or Gibbons, but I don't think a Senate primary is going to inspire the typical Trump voter.

I will say, I see the commercials Mike Gibbons has been running attacking JD Vance and my wife and I comment how those commercials only make us more inclined to support Vance and make Gibbons look like an even bigger clown than he is. Also speaking of Gibbons, running a campaign based on his former football glory as a high school and DIII football star is akin to Al Bundy running for public office.

The left picks and chooses the "smart" people they want to follow. The left is just as much anti-science as many on the right and vice versa. There are just as many examples of the left ignoring the science as the right. There is also just as many examples of the left uniting around hate as the right. I do not think it is appropriate to draw those extremes because it just makes the left look like a bunch of hypocrites.
  17. cant see him winning in 2022. He will get his clock cleaned in Warren County . Also, 2022 is a pretty favorable year for the GOP that it does not bode super well even in a competitive R leaning district. He would be better to wait until 2024 where you have a presidential year with typically higher Dem turnout. Also Chabot may decide to retire by 2024 as he will be in his mid 70s at that time. Much better chance to flip it when it is an open seat than going against the incumbant, even if that incumbant may be weak.
  18. He has been cordinating with Triatifilou. Pretty much the GOP will endorse him if he wanted otherwise, they would work to clear the field from serious candidates if he chose to run as an independent. Not to say others will not try and run, but they would have an uphill battle in such a situation.
  19. Dumas is the most beatable So I am sure he has his choice on who he will run against. I’ve also heard the GOP it’s going to clear the path on their side for himSo I am sure he has his choice on who he will run against. I’ve also heard the GOP it’s going to clear the path on their side for him
  20. I assume he is running against Dumas and not Driehaus?

Ryan could win if 1) he runs a perfect campaign focusing on kitchen table issues and runs away from progressive issues like identity politics and 2) the Republican candidate runs a lousy campaign. It happens quite frequently even in wave election type years. for example: 1) KY a solid red state has a dem governor. Why? Because the GOP incumbent was a giant a hole who picked a fight with every coalition in the state and tried to be a bigger Trump than Trump. 2) back in 2010 Senste race in MO, what looked like a solid Republican pickup was derailed because the candidate was so poor and focused on issues like legitimate rape instead of issues that matter to the voters. 3) similarly in Indiana around that time the GOP candidate seemed to be too focused on the social wars instead of actual issues that mattered and he was upset. it can very easily happen, even in a wave type year
  22. Especially with Garfield Place Hotel closing a number of years back, the area could use a hotel given the event space. Between the Cincinnati Club and Phoenix, there are ample events there to generate room nights. There is also an existing parking garage that practically connects there too. Add in FC stadium which is walkable from there, it sets up well for a hotel.
  23. It is such a pretty building. It just screams apartments or possibly hotel conversion.
  24. ^ Now those are cars. The only thing missing are the stacks so they can roll some coal.
  25. It does seem heavier on restaurants, I thought I saw hotel is part of the concept plan too, But I could be mistaken.
