University of Cincinnati Bearcats Football Discussion
Oregon’s best win is against number 5 and UCs is against number 10 oregon is not who you want to worry about, if Houston or SMU can climb into the top 25 those are better wins than Oregon will have. The PAC won’t have another top 25 team. UC needs bama to lose one more, the BIG will work itself out on its own, and Oklahoma to lose. Notre Dame needs to win out and things should work out for uc.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
As nice as it is, given how hard it was to get it done on the Cincinnati side many years ago. Is it even realistic to talk about building a connector into Covington? Given their aversion to bridge tolls and the like. How realistic would it be that they would want to fund a Streetcar system on their side of the river?

Cincinnati: Downtown: Convention Center / Hotel
Because I do not think they contemplate building an entire new facility and I do not know if the existing facility can support multiple levels of convention space. I think if you build from scratch it is a no brainer and you build up. Not sure about the currrent scenario

Cincinnati: Downtown: Development and News
From the Greyhound perspective (and they will drive the bus *no pun intended* on the site) I do not think they really care about bringing people into the city, they use it as a transfer hub for people to connect to other busses across the country as well as those who may be using it as their final destination. From their perspective, they want accessibility for drop/off pick up, and they will want ease of access to the interstate system to minimize the amount of time the busses are on the regular roads slowing them down from reaching their next destination. That is why Queensgate or someplace on the outskirts of downtown makes much more sense.

Queensgate/West End are where I would probably see it. SOmewhere off Western Ave, Dalton, Linn Street areas, mostly because it offers access to the interstates and existing on/off ramps and will not be subject to a ton of congestion in the heart of the city. I think the Banks would be a no go for other reasons, it also does not offer great on/off highway access which in the long haul bus business would hurt profitability.

Cant see them going to the riverfront transit center. Greyhound owns their stations. Plus, they will want something with easy on/off highway access. My guess is they move to the West End somewhere with easy 75 access.

I think a spur from the Museum Center to the Casino is easy and it could be paid for by private entities. (I think FC would have interest in paying part of the cost to get fans to games easier, and the Casino would too). Both sites offer a lot of parking to circulate people from the outside of the city into town without the need for cars. The trek up Gilbert is also interesting. It it a lot easier of a grade than going up Clifton/Sycamore/Vine, etc. to the Univiersities. Plus it opens up an area that is rapidly improving and gentifying. I would just go straight up Gilbert instead of looping on McMillian and Taft and maybe extend it out to Victory. It seems easier. The key downside is that it does not really connect to the UC/Hospitals/Innovation Hub corridor so it does not attract to many new jobs. However, if it could connect to an E/W BRT route down MLK it could alleviate that issue some.

Cincinnati: Fountain Square: Development and News
Brutus_buckeye replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionWould be interesting to see a rendering of this proposed tower. I wonder how this plan (if it is more office than apartment) would fit with the additional office building they are supposed to break ground on at the Banks? To the point mentioned above, ideally it would have been a great project if they could have built a 40+ story with a mix of retail, office on 20+ stories and combo hotel/apartment tower portion of it. But alas they only planned a max 20 story tower on top the pad.

Brutus_buckeye replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionSo is this tower a forgone conclusion at this point or is it still hypothetical?

Cincinnati: Fountain Square: Development and News
Brutus_buckeye replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionIT seems an interesting project but I struggle to see how office/retail and apartments would work with this project on the footprint. Parking would be an issue and the parking garage underneath is not very big.

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
I dont think whether the state is Red/Blue is a major factor in getting people to move there. Certainly, it may be a consideration, look at the areas where people are moving. Florida, Texas, Tennessee, North Carolina. Nevada, Arizona, Georgia, Colorado Yes, the vast majority of them may have right leaning state legislatures but that seems to have little relevancy on why people go there. Take Colorado for example. People are moving there because of the scenic surroundings along with corporate opportunity. In Texas, people are going there for jobs and opportunity. Florida, people move there for the weather and opportunity. The key is the opportunity what brings people to a state and area. THe weather and scenicness is probably next. People are not leaving Cleveland or Youngstown because of the government (maybe to a limited extent they are) but they are leaving because all the mills closed up, and the opportunity is now gone. Also, let's be real, if someone were to pay you an annual salary of $2 million a year to live in Odessa Texas for a while, you are thinking pretty long and hard about going, no matter your politics.

Governor Mike DeWine
Whenever I saw NY plates I always got them confused with the OH party plates
-
Governor Mike DeWine
There is no law that says you need to get new plates every time you renew. I think on one of my cars, the plates go back to the Strickland administration which is a few plate designs ago and for me a few cars ago. You can also take old plates with you and transfer them over to your new car. The updated plate designs are just opportunities for new revenue for those who 1) need a new plate and can't transfer 2) encourages people to upgrade becuase some people just like newer items, and 3) serves as a form of civic pride in some corners

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
But my question, and hopefully you can lend insight into this, is how much power would mayor (Pureval or Mann) have? I thought OKI which is the main party making the decisions is made up more of county appointed officials as well as employed burreaucrats like Policinski? I thought the city did have some representation on there but their influence was fairly small. Although, they do have a lot of influence over SORTA so maybe that helps?
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Given the current makeup of it, do you see that as a possibility in the forseeable future? Policinski is getting older so he cant have too much more time left at OKI.
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
While I would have loved to see light rail 20 years ago, that ship has sailed and it is really a pie in the sky proposal at this point. At the recent OKI meeting Policinski stated light rail really is not realistic on their agenda now, so that says a lot. BRT is where transportation is in the region. Best to focus on that method to improve routes and transportation.

Cincinnati/NKY International Airport
With DHL and Amazon there now, would the cargo shift to those carriers? I know that GE has a contract with Delta, but if the cargo is what made it profitable, you would think that those carriers could shift over and cover that service in a more cost effective manner? Of course, DHL has been around forever and they have not been used for shipping to CVG from Paris. Does anyone know the answer to that question?

- Cincinnati: Downtown: Convention Center / Hotel
I do not know if that really does anything signficant as far as an expansion goes. It seems it would have to be larger. However, to piggyback off your idea, maybe take the expansion all the way across, close off 6th street and expand where the garage is on the other side of Plum. Expand George street all the way through to create the cutthrough where Plum and 6th served. It cuts off the 6th street artery downtown to the highway but it does not cut it off completely. It also pretty much just removes dead space North of the convetntion center anyway that is not used for much besides parking.- Cincinnati: Downtown: Convention Center / Hotel
Given that the funding and plans for a new hotel are not in place, I would not doubt that this issue would jeopardize the World Cup bid taking place next week.- Cincinnati/NKY International Airport
https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2021/10/08/cincinnati-s-future-cars-and-cvg-not-rail.html The big airport related matter and takeaway from this is: Finally, he said, people need to fully understand how key the DHL and Amazon Air hubs will be to the region. “We’re the seventh-largest port in the United States. Los Angeles, Miami, Houston — Cincinnati is there,” Policinski said. “The world is moving to CVG ... other companies are starting to form around the airport. They want to be a part of the action." there is a rather large logistics infatructure that will be booming around NKY in the coming years.- Cincinnati City Council
Who do you have in the 10/11 spots. given recent history, they may be called upon, lol more importantly, it always seems like 8-11 are crapshoots and are the hardest to predict, chances are if you are wrong on 8/9 it is likely they will be in the 10/11 slots- NFL: General News & Discussion
Meanwhile, down in Jax Urban Meyer is sending Gruden a big thank you.- NFL: General News & Discussion
What he said about DeMaurice Smith was mean and not very nice. But that should be between him and Smith. To make a larger issue out of it as some sort of racial thing is preposterous. People need to get a grip about that. Same with his comments about Goddell. That is really between him and Goddell. Both him and Smith are big boys and do not need society to fight the battle between Gruden and themselves. and yes, Gruden is a jerk. But that is not my problem. - Cincinnati: Downtown: Convention Center / Hotel
