  1. I am a fan of historic preservation too, but not strict historic preservation. I look at the South Park neighborhood in Dayton as a perfect example of this. It was a historic neighborhood that was built by NCR for their employees back in the day. The concept was directors lived on the same street as managers who lived by the factory workers. You have a very high density and there were a number of very large victorian houses next to more modest homes with a bunch of 2-3 room shotgun houses making up about 2/3 of the neighborhood. As gentrification hit the neighborhood, many of the Victorian and mroe mid-level homes still commanded demand, despite the neighborhood, but the vast amount of the shotgun houses were deteriorated and blighted and were mostly obsolete to what the market demanded. There was a demand to fix some of them up at which case a certain number should have been preserved, but many others should have been cleared to allow newer homes built to the same neighborhood character to be built. This would have helped the neighborhood much better I believe and provide a product that people want today while at the same time, encouraging continued investment in the historical properties in the area. I think the neighborhood could achieve so much more if there could be allowed selective demolition and redevelopment without disturbing the character and charm of the neighborhood.
  2. Sittenfeld will have to step down on an interim basis or else the Attorney General will essentially force him out until his case is resovled.
  3. If Couch never got injured he would have been a stud. He definitely was the real deal until he blew his arm out. Baker is a good QB but not a great one. He needs a better supporting cast. He is like an Andy Dalton type QB. He is not the transformational QB who can lift a team on his shoulders and win on his own. Mahomes, Brady, Manning, Elway, Brees, Rothlisberger were these types of QB's. Baker is not going to make it to that level. DOes not mean he cannot be a good NFL QB. Just not elite.
  4. I think the goal is to get new blood and allow them to establish a name so they can run in 2021. Since Murray can’t run, it won’t be her. I think Murray has higher ambitions and is going to make a run at Chabots seat
  5. yes, but my point is that it may look bad from an optics standpoint.
  6. From a political standpoint it is a bit tricky. If you are blocking people who you represent it is not a good look. Even if they did not vote for you, you still need to be a representative of all the people in the city.
  7. Dennard was interesting. She definitely was one of more desperation and ability to mismanage money. She was nice, but every time i met her, you could tell she did not understand much about finance and money. Pastor clearly seemed corrupt. Even campaigning, there always seemed like there was something or somebody who was pushing him to get him elected. Something just seemed off there. Sittenfeld, I think got corrupted by power and saw how many politicians were doing things and becoming kingmakers. He saw a time where he may not be front and center in local politics and may have been in a different role (because term limits and such) but still wanted to make his influence known. I am not willing to pass judgment on PG. I think he is an ok guy, not a huge fan of his, but what I have seen so far does not make me want to pass judgment for or against him. I personally need to see more.
  8. Reading through the enquirer article tonight, I do not quite see the "there" there. It seems like it may be a hard case to prove, although the hidden PAC definitely hurts him. A lot of what was released in the Enquirer looks a lot like PG's hubris and an ego play instead of anything overly illegal. Certainly does not place him in a great light, but it seems like there has to be more to it.
  9. I was on a call with someone today who knew the Sittenfeld parents back in the day when their kids were growing up. Apparently, they were beyond embarassed with their daughter wrote her first novel and it had some sex scenes in it and they did not think they could ever live that down. PG says, hold my beer.
  10. The interesting thing about the Sittenfeld scandal is it appeared he was setting himself up by using Householder's playbook. As Cranley pointed out, Pastor and Dennard were just looking to line their personal pockets with some extra cash; PG was looking to be a kingmaker and have a dark money slush fund to peddle influence for political allies and exact revenge on enemies.
  11. The interesting thing, is they always say there may be more scalps to fall on this, however, given how much Sittenfeld and his crew hated Cranley and tried to thwart him, I would be surprised if Cranley is involved in any of this.
  12. Dennard, Wendell Young would never have been Republicans. Sittenfeld may have been a republican in NY back in the day but he pretty much is the poster child for the democratic party if you think about his positions. Cranley is an interesting case as he is much more old school Democrat than traditional Republican
  13. Based on the Facts, you see a lot more democrats getting arrested. I highly doubt Sunderman will have to worry about any of that. But of course based on prior statements, I know you believe that Democrats dont actually engage in that type of behavior because they have some sort of moral high ground or something like that i guess.
  14. He certainly did not need the money for his campaign. I bet he was trying to use the Householder playbook and build a fund to peddle influence.
  15. ^no it wouldn't. The GOP does not have much power on council anymore but at least it is important to have their voice heard.
  16. I can see Smitherman jumping in. The rumors I heard was that he was behind on fundraising with his wife's illness and realized he could not compete with PG's money machine. Cant see Landsman (not really his personality, he is better as a collaborative member than leader), Tarbell is too old, Qualls could make a comeback if she is interested, but I think her time has passed. I could see Rob Richardson try again. Simpson will be difficult because of the Children's hospital issue a few years ago and the current PG mess. I have heard there is a guy who runs the convention bureau who may throw his name in the hat too. My bet is on SMitherman now.
  17. So in 2022 City council will likely be: Mayor: ???? Councilmember 1 - Sunderman (no particular order) Council 2 - Landsman council 3 - ?? Council 4 - ?? Council 5 - ?? Council 6 - ?? Council 7 ?? Council 8 ?? Council 9?? there are going to be a lot of new names on council next year. Smitherman, Seelbach, Young, are all term limited. Pastor, Dennard are gone. Mann running for mayor. I would assume one of the seats going to Liz Keating or Seth Maney maybe. It could open the door for some crazies like Dillingham to get on council.
  18. I think she would at least get to pick it until a runoff vote in 2022 to fill the rest of the term. Otherwise the fill in could fill the remaining term, not sure on that one. County Commission has more power, but mayor is much more high profile. It would be an interesting trade off.
  19. Maybe Alecia Reese would throw her hat into the ring.
  20. I cant help feel for his wife and young kids.
  21. Considering the Gang of 5 mess, and now this. I would say his career in politics is over I felt sittenfeld was a decent guy on the whole, a bit of a pie in the sky dreamer type. Tended to be influenced by the wrong people sometimes. Ultimately, I am not overly surprised by this. Through my own interactions with him and a number of developers and other investors I know, they have made references to things going on below the surface with him. PG was big on the city development side and always hobnobing with the developers in town. The joke about PG is that he kept a pair of large scissors in the back of his car to run to the next ribbon cutting of ground breaking for the photo op. If there were 6 people to go down the 3 additional would seem to be the rest of the gang of 5, however, I doubt that is the case. I do not see Landsman in this as he is probably a bit naive to some of this stuff being a new member. Even Seelbach, as much as I do not like the guy, he did not get as intwined in development the way PG did. I can see Wendell Young going down though and would not be a surprised to see that. Other than that, maybe some council staffers go down too.
  22. You kept hearing that there would be another shoe to fall and a potentially bigger one. This apparently is it.
  23. I guess the question I have, if that is the case, then why the talk about a new bridge with tolls? Would that not still be the existing Interstate? Or does that count as new? If you cant do tolls essentially period, then how come that seems to be the only solutions coming from politicians and the like?
  24. The solution for tolls v no tolls. Make the current BSB a toll bridge and have it connect to FWW, 71 and Columbia Pkwy. Build a new bridge over 75 and have it non-toll. The 75 entry way is non tolls. The 71 entryway is tolled. On the KY side, it would merge just over the river in Covington and the highway would remain the same. Yes, the 75 drivers get the better end of things and traffice on the existing BSB will diminish signficantly. Those who work downtown would be incentivized to use the toll bridge, because it makes it easier to get downtown, those on the East side or going to East side of Cincinnati would have incentive too. Those going to Mason or along 71 would have options to either do the toll bridge or take Norwood lateral or Ronald Reagan if they want to avoid the toll bridge. I wonder if anyone has done a model of this type of scenario. As the new bridge gets more and more crowded, more people will be incentivized for the toll bridge at that point.
