Cincinnati: Brent Spence Bridge
Or we could just cap FWW at this point. Much more cost effective than removing it. I would like to see some of the patchwork of lanes, ramps, etc over by 75 consolidated some like they did when they redid FWW 20 years ago and were able to capture a ton more space. If they do that, they may be able to get enough space to do a convention center expansion over Central, which would make the most sense.

Ohio Congressional Redistricting / Gerrymandering
It may not change much in 2022 but will likely make a couple more seats competitive. I would bet by 2028, you will have more like an 9/6 R to D split (assuming Ohio loses another seat)

So, which one of you guys is going to take one for the team and finish the job with the Brent Spence so we can just get a new bridge.

US Economy: News & Discussion
Probably not as far fetched as you may think. If someone can think it, they can figure out a way to tax it. May seem crazy now but in the next 10 years, I bet we see a push for this type of lunacy. it will be caged in the typical terms of fairness, and equality, and they may even mention that it will help the children and other platitudes. The only people who wilil be really helped by it are real estate developers specializing in office development.

Cincinnati: Brent Spence Bridge
The clay wade bailey bridge is just such a pain to use and quite inconveinient. It does not efficiently line up with the Cincinnati Street grid, and Covington has grown and developed more to the East along the suspension bridge route so that when it dumps into Covington, it is not a great route there either. It would have been much better if they were able to design it to a Race street alignment into Covington, but I believe that woudl have gone through the IRS site at that time.

I got an unsolicited call from a NY broker today wanting me to invest in Impossible Brands. He said he had another great client in Ohio who had 50k dairy cows who was listening to him and moving more and more money into Impossible Brands as we spoke. I asked him what part of Ohio this dairy farmer lived and he told me Loveland. I dont know if he is right or wrong about Impossible Brands but I told him he was full of sh*t and to learn something about Ohio first before bothering to call me to pitch a stock.

Taxes
You are right, I am not stating it as a matter of fact, however, the problem with Cincinnati, is that whey you have a KY or IN resident, you now have a Federal issue and there is a history of Federal Courts holding home offices as the place where business is being done for purposes of claiming where taxes are collected. For example, a sales person for Microsoft who lives in cincinnati and represents corporate clients in the region would not pay Seattle/Redmond WA income tax even though they may travel to corporate office in Redmond WA on a monthly basis. It is not a stretch to say that a 5/3 employee now doing 80-90% of their work from home in KY, could qualify as a home worker and even though they go to corporate a few times a month, they would not be required to pay Cincinnati taxes. The Ohio Supreme Court ruled that the appliction of Cleveland's jock tax was unconstitutional too. So there is a strong argument that can be made for employees who used to have to cross borders but no longer need to, and the state of Ohio could be on the losing end there, hurting Cincinnati.

It is about nexus and where you are classified as working and where the income is generated from. That is the debate. If you work for 5/3 at a branch in Blue Ash, you are paying Blue Ash taxes not Cincinnati taxes. If you work and have a permanent desk downtown but work 80% of your time in the field or remotely, there is still a nexus to the HQ because you technically have a permanent desk there, but there is an argument to be had as to which jurisdiction should have a claim to those tax dollars. If 5/3 were to classify that employee as fully remote, and does not intend to bring them back to the downtown office, then, even though they support functions going on downtown at the HQ, they would not likely meet the nexus test to be liable to pay city taxes. There is a lot of gray area to sort out here. The bigger point is that from a state law point, the state could save many of the municipalities these tax dollars because the state can arguably create its own nexus test. This is a state matter on a lot of these concerns and the State of Ohio can treat their local municipalities how they choose. It is a political conversation to have on that matter. Therefore if you work for Huntington Bank in Columbus or Key Bank, it may not hurt the worker too much in that regard. Cincinnati stands to be effected most by this, because there are now Federal issues that come into play when that 5/3 remote worker lives in KY or IN. They have a federal argument that they would not be required to pay city of Cincinnati taxes (and likely be successful in that arguement). You would not have much of this to worry about in Columbus, Cleveland, Dayton, and Akron given their locations.

Taxes
That would be devastating for all of the state and employees. That means everyone working in Ohio at Amazon will have to pay Seattle taxes, everyone working at Target will pay Minneapolis taxes, all Macy's employees would pay New York taxes, under that theory. Fortunately, the Supreme Court has already said that such a tax scheme on the Federal level is not kosher, so we really dont have to worry about that happening, but as mentioned, it could be an issue when talking about workers who have to cross state lines.

Taxes
It does make sense to a certain point, if you are not using the city services you should not have to pay the tax. The question will then come as to what constitutes the true location, is it the main office or where the employee is located. Traditionally, it has been the location of the employee. Cincinnati has the most to lose by this as of all major cities in Ohio, there are more employees that cross the river than in other states. The reasoning, even if the Ohio legislature is not able to repeal this rule, or the Court in Ohio hold up the current law that says work at home employees must still pay Ohio tax, there is still an argument over the Constitutionality of the law as it would apply to out of state workers who cross the border into Ohio. All the Kentucky and Indiana workers who work downtown or other places in Ohio on a regular basis would likely be exempt from this and no longer have to pay Ohio or Municipal tax, even if those in say Green Township who work downtown will still have to pay Cinti tax

Cincinnati City Council Corruption
there was always something about Pastor that seemed a bit off. I could never put my finger on it, but it seemed as if the guy was a bit shady sometimes. I wish I could say i was shocked. I appreciated Pastor's libertarian leanings, but I would say he was hardly able to be counted on as a reliable vote on council.

Disappointed about the sheriff race. McGuffey really had no business winning. Disappointed about a few of the judges but it pretty much represents a trend in the County now. Alecia Reece winning commission is good. She will do a fine job and she is a class act. Glad that Deters won and glad taht Winkler held on in the Probate Court.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
The Browns need 4 more wins to make the playoffs. This was not a game that people had them scheduled to win. It would have been nice to win it, but it does not affect their playoff run. ]]]]]

Agreed, even during the week, with so many people working from home, there is not as much push to be at the office at 8AM anymroe.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Looking at the schedule, how many more wins do they have left in your opinion? I think there are at least 4 with Jax, NYJ, NYG, Eagles. Are there any we are missing?

Cleveland Browns Discussion
I guess the question I have is what qualifies as a good season for the Browns. They are 5-2 now and looking at the schedule they have at least 4 more wins possibly 5. That is a playoff record (of course a total collapse is not unprecedented and this is Cleveland so if it can happen it will). I do not see them making much of a run in the playoffs with the current makeup as this is not a Super Bowl quality team, but the liklihood of them ending their playoff drought is almost certain. (I may eat those words come December). Also, keep in mind that injuries happen. You cant expect the season to have all your stud players healthy the entire time. Stefanski has changed the culture to a positive one after so many years of failure. He may never be the one to get to the Super Bowl, and the Browns still need a few missing pieces to get there, but the trajectory has been changed.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
After watching the game yesterday, I thought Cleveland has a stud pass rush. It will go far. This team is 5-2 so at this stage, it is hard not to see them making the playoffs. Likely will be a wildcard. I think they finish 10-6 looking at the rest of the schedule. That being said, I do not think they have what it takes to get over the hump in the playoffs. Baker played well against a bad defense, but watching the 2 QB's I would take Burrow hands down over Baker. What Burrow can do with a lesser talent on offense (yes they have a couple of good receivers but Browns overall supporting cast is better) has been amazing to watch. Baker needs to roll out and needs a strong run game to do play action for his game to really do well (as evident by the Pittsburgh game) Clevland needs Chubb back but Hunt is a great addition to carry the load short term. D is good. Denzel is a stud, but there are some soft spots there.

Much to your point Jake, I remember reading an article a few years ago talking about how Spotify, Itunes, Pandora, etc. have made it harder for the struggling musician to break into the market and get acceptance of their music. People used to buy albums and it propped up other music and created a following. Now they buy the one song, that song is much cheaper than the album and the musician does not receive as much from a download than they would if they sold an entire album. There is less of a demand for a tour if the general public only knows the singer as a one hit wonder and it depresses their ability to market themselves on tour as much. The article indiciated that big acts like Taylor Swift benefitted from the new model but becoming the next Taylor Swift was going to be a lot harder.
