  1. I dont think he leaves. It is not the right time for him and his family to move. In a couple years it is a different story. I still think he ends up at Notre Dame.
  2. You would think that by announcing this the way St. Louis did they are recognizing that Cincinnati is in the lead. 1) it is closer and more convenient to travel (cheaper operating costs) 2) with the P&G and Kroger connections as well as GE all having large operations over there (and now Mercy Health) there is a decent amount of demand in the local area. (I dont know about St. Louis business community) 3) The Cincinnati airport has better infastructure to handle the flight. 4) Whatever other economic incentives the cities have to offer will probably be a wash
  3. It is really not that difficult to establish a small office where a few corp execs and accounting support personnel reside and then farm out the work across the country to various satellite sites.
  4. When you let your CEO live outside the HQ city, this is what happens. Eventually the entire C Suite moves with it. Look at Hill-Rom and NCR. The CEO was not local and did not live in town the the HQ was moved a few years later to the city of the CEO's choice. Macy's was the same. When Zimmerman retired around 2006, Lundgren wanted to remain in NY and justified it by being closer to the fashion people and power brokers in NY. SLowly but surely, as other Cincinnati execs retired they were replaced with NY people closer to the CEO. If you want to see a large company relocate, just watch to see if a new CEO lives in the HQ city.
  5. There are 20 floors in the building 8 or so are parking garages. Macy's has about 6-8 of the additional floors, plus they own the building. They had their real estate division based here which included accountants, attorney's etc. The building also houses a few law firms and other businesses.
  6. I remember going to the liquidation sale for the Vernon Manor years ago and by the time we got in everything was picked over. However, it was actually pretty cool seeing the history of the old hotel and having access to a lot of areas you would not normally have access too.
  7. But is there demand for that. Given all the riverfront parking, it would seem as if there is an oversupply of it on the riverfront. What would get people to park at the RTC over elsewhere in the garages unless it was significantly cheaper.
  8. I was wondering how they could do a free park and ride in the city. There would be a ton of free riders in that case. I agree, make it free for the Streetcar (although since it is now decoupled from SORTA dont think that is a possibility anymore) and for the circulators in the city METRO and TANK. The only issue I have with using it as a Park and Ride is that downtown is usually not a beginning destination but rather end destination. Also, unless you are using it as an after work hangout, what reason would you have to do a park and ride downtown. The people who live at the Banks obviously wont need it, and the people that live in say NKY or near West Side are not going to use it instead of driving to Uptown. It is just not conveinent. However, it could be a good marketing piece whereby you park downtown, take the bus to Uptown and then after work come to the Banks or Fountain Sq for dinner, drinks, show, etc.
  9. ^ So would there be a charge to park there? Most of the park and rides are free parking, right?
  10. That doesn't bother me. Vandercar essentially put the contract together and flipped it to the Port. THey should be compensated for that at the very minimum.
  11. They should have built the new hotel on 5th Street and then dealt with the Millenium later. I will never understand the logic in the current plan
  12. It was an elite level AAU team so they pulled the top players from the Southern California region. For these types of teams, some players will travel 3-4 hours on the weekend to play on the team. They have the elite level coaching and facilities as well as access to the top technology and future college program connections. The location was less about where Kobe lived and more about probably allowing access to the top coaches, trainers, etc in the region. I believe LeBron has a similar team based in NE Ohio, but I could be mistaken on that. These elite level teams are not like the youth basketball of your day Jake (although St. James was a force back then :)) .
  13. I remember waking up this morning and watching Sports Center hearing Lebron talk about Kobe and his congratulatory Tweet praising Lebron for passing him on the all time list. It was so surreal to hear only a few hours later he had died.
  14. So why not go over the bridge to Newport and reallocate the TANK bus service somewhere else.
  15. Just go to Newport first over Taylor Southgate and then connect to Covington later.
  16. ^ Why not just a loop from the Banks to Taylor Southgate, over the bridge, go past Ovation, cross over to Covington and loop back over the Suspension Bridge to connect back to the Banks?
  17. For all the talk about KC's setup for their streetcar, I believe the set up of Cincinnati's, while not overly efficient now, provides much more opportunity to grow the lines in the future
  18. What is the benefit of the lower case h? Is it solely to get it to go across the river? I can get that, but why not just get the buy in to take it across the river from the start. At this point, you really dont gain anything by taking it down to PBS other than maybe some convention center riders
  19. what about adding a spur to the casino and to Union Terminal/FCC stadium? It would act as a circulator taking people from large parking lots to the center of town.
  20. Personally, I would like to see it go across the bridge to Covington and Newport. It may be more tedious with two states and 3 cities involved, but I imagine construction would be cheaper without going up the hill. Also, the width of the roads in the Clifton area and the constant changing terrain would make it difficult for the streetcar to maneuver. I also think that going across the river would really connect those neighborhoods together and make a more cohesive downtown transportation system. It would make it worht riding if you can take it to 1) GABP, The Banks and PBS, 2) Downtown Library, 3) Ftn Sq, 4) Kroger, 5) OTR, 6) Music Hall 7) Wash Park, 8 ) Rhinegeist 9) Findlay Market, 10)FCC Stadium 11) Main Strauss, 12) Newport on the LEvee 13) Covington Convention Center and River Center, 14) Downtown Covington, 15) Downtown Newport. If you can add 2-3 miles that direction, it can really tie the two regions together. Bigger challenge is getting NKY to get behind it.
  21. Possibly Richardson. I have no insider knowledge on that one. Given the way the city is, nobody can be him from the right. He may be popular with the left now, but also has a lot of big money interest in the city behind him and that could expose him on the left flank. He obviously wont be as anti as Cranley on the streetcar but I dont think he will be Mallory on the matter either because he needs to keep his big money donors happy.
  22. Sittenfeld will likely win. I dont think we will see construction up Vine to Taft though. Sittenfeld will face a challenge from the left and he will run to the center like Cranley in the race.
  23. I think Neil will make waves in the general if he loses the primary. He will not fall on his sword. He will openly endorse the Republican in the field at that point. There is bad blood between him and McGuffey and he strikes me as someone who could care less what the party thinks especially given that they essentially told him to go away. This could get ugly
  24. Where is the closest direct flight there now? Cincinnati, Cleveland, Indy, Chicago?
  25. I think that footprint is probably the ideal footprint for a hotel. Would prefer something across the street, but this space will work. Would love to see a tower, but dont think it will be that high. You have to figure it will just be a hotel. They dont need to have space for conferences and meetings since the casino already has that space. The casino has their ball rooms, it already has restaurants and catering. Outside of rooms and a pool and workout facility, there is not much the hotel really would need on that space. It already has parking too. Do you see them building a 600-800 room hotel on the spot or do you think it will be more like 200 -300 rooms?
