  1. haha, speaking of that, everybody come on down to my new store on 7th Street! the name CURRENT plays off is dual use as a noun (river current), and adjective (en vogue, fashionable).
  2. Yeah, yeah! they claim to be a "family newspaper" what the hell does that even mean? Sorry not in todays world if you wanna be taken seriously you can't censor the truth. Enquirer is dying anyways. Its turning into a magazine, more photos and fluff, less hard news. The Streetcar is a RETURN of what cincy already had going for it first half of 20th century, coinciding with its peak growth. GM bought ownership of the companies and killed it. Good old fashion'd American Greed. Isnt Tom luken CEO of Sorta busses. that would explain his opisition. he realizes how much money he'll lose. How often will the streetcar will arrive at a station. every 5 minutes? hopefully no more than that. as it would effect ridership.
  3. thanks dirty. the 5th one really goves cincy a new skyline for the 21st cen. almost didnt recognize it!
  4. yeah its really tacky.
  5. YES, CINCY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ATTA BOY!!!!!!!!! Proud of my Hometown. 21st Century (finally)! Smitherman: suck on this alll summer long. Luken: time for you to croak.
  6. somebody should pass this idea along to city council member Laure Quinlavin... The fact that our city has strong local culture to support an indigenous cuisine is impressive! All GREAT cities are associated with a native food symbolizing their city. (SanFran:sourdough, Boston:chowda/beans, Baltimore:crabs, Chicago:dogs/pizza, Nawlins:po'boy&gumbo, philly:cheesesteaks, nyc:cheescakes, milwuakee:beer Seattle:java, Memphis:bbq, Cincinnati:chili). (notice which cities did not make the list...colombus, indianapolis, cleveland, dallas, houston, denver, st. louie, minneapolis, san diego, etc....all places lacking signifigant ethnic cultural history.) $eriously, lets recognize and celebrate this fact. Make it a drawal for tourists. At the very least pass some legislation protecting these local institutions from the wreaking ball.
  7. Detriot is going to Hell in a handbag. It's been dying for the past 40years. '67 Riots were beginning of The End. This latest round of demolition is about 30% of the city.... The nail in the coffin. We're literally watching the destruction of Detriot before our eyes. Its not ironic the birthplace of the automobile is also the largest casualty thus far of urban decay. That's not coincidental. 1,000,000 people flee the city in under 50 years time; terribly high crime rate, corrupt city government, deadly race riots, abandoned 30 story skyscrapers... scary times in Motown.
  8. The lot along 4th & Plum, in front of duke center is the logical spot for the next supertall. It would provide a nice balance to the western end of the skyline, framing our antique and timeworn centerpieces, carew & central trust. maybe something similar to atlanta's peachtree centre? Interestingly, the Eastern ends of 4th&5th along Sycamore St. has emerged as the Financial District of our downtown. QCS confirms that, gleaming with an ensemble of recent skycrapers: Chemed, Chiquita, Atrium complex, and P&G World HQ. This is good news bc this area is infused with historic treasures. University Club on Broadway, Literary Club @Lytle, and the Greek Temple of W&S HQ. Just think, the historic Christ Church across the st. from our city's new tallest glass jewel? Sounds like something you'd find in Boston or Philly... Here's an idea for the other W&S garage along Third St..... rebuild it as a residential highrise. Due to its historic location, we shall call it The Residences @Fort Washington.
  9. great photos. keep it up!
  10. and the Queen City finally has her Crown.
  11. they should have saved the murals a la the Joan Miro & Saul Steinberg murals which were transferred from the Gourmet Room to the Cincinnati Art Museum in the 60s.
  12. Have all local (non-chain) Chili Parlors in the city be designated local/municipal/city landmarks. 10 in all. Delhi Price Hill U.S. Camp Washington Createns Covington Chili Dixie Empress Pleasant Ridge Sam’s Chili Also, we should reopen the Findlay Market Gold Star along Race St. We need to represent our famous cuisine at the tourist market. Just food for thought... What do you think???
  13. My Man Dale Mallory gets it. http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20100619/SPT/6200366/1062/spt&template=wapart A Vegas-Style boxing arena is exactly what is needed to boost our casino! Statues of The Hawk or Ezzard Charles outside the entrance. Also, Pete Rose needs to open a sports bar at the Casino. He can call it "Charlie Hustle's"
  14. I cant believe how many are actually advocating construction of an above ground parking garage on this page! sometimes i think cincinnatians like to whine and complain about everything. I call it Phil Burress syndrome.......news flash: 3CDC has been the savior of our city. Garages are deathknells for vibrant city centers. (tower place garage@4thSt.) Washington is oldest, largest, and most important urban park downtown. DO IT RIGHT!!! Kudos to City Hall for finally getting this vision realized!!!! :D  8-) From Sherman: Removed derogatory comment.
  15. we can thank AL NEYER development for misleading us all with his true intentions for this block. $lick bastard. Here's my 2¢... They branded it "St. Xavier Park". OK... but, where's the park? there's nothing there but parking. Take the entire block bounded by 7,8th, Sycamore, Main St. A huge lot...Replace it with an actual urban park. there's absolutely no greenspace in this quadrant of downtown as is. Build medium residential infill along 7th in the lot adjacent to the Church and the tiny lot next to Dennison whorehouse. (they filmed Traffic inside). Let the developers build their new hotel @Red cross site. Allow 3CDC to rehab the Denison into apts. Now, this bookends the power & krippendorf buildings, and makes for a nice tidy little plaza for the residents of the neighborhood. the major obstacle will be convincing city council to accept a loss in tax revenue from replacing those lots with a public park.
  16. BUILD THE CAPS!!! THEY'LL MAKE A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE. We need to think about whose STATUES should be erected on these new caps/parks. Taft? Rutherford B. Hayes? (strong cincinnati connection -wife & kids born/buried here). Neil Armstrong? (taught @UC, currently lives in Indian Hill!) Aaron Pryor? Ezzard Charles? Roger Staubach? Pete Rose? After all, this is the sports district...
  17. This incident, in a nutshell, manifests how/why Christianity is wrong. Reminds me of the religious seperatists who established a Religious Utopian community (a la New Harmony, IN) along the ohio river, only to have their town destroyed & everyone perish in a mass flood.............. God does exisit, but God is not human. God transcends humanity. God is Life, in all its unique forms.
  18. can someone please post a rendering of this project?
