Apparently, the first mobile phone was introduced in 1973, so it's an homage to that. But it doesn't make for the best product name.

Cincinnati Bell has the same WiFi setup. Called Home Run I believe.

They've been playing this game for a decade, and the City keeps indulging them. At some point, the City will not renew. But noone else is going to put the effort into a new proposal for the site while Eagle has the preferred developer agreement.
  4. ^Sadly, no! I guess the bull wasn't even fired up for riding. I did like the way it opens to the outside though. Seems like a much better bar than restaurant, though the beer selection is thin.
  5. I went to Cadillac Ranch last week. I'd say the food is a notch below mediocre. The service was just a bit better. One thing that was obnoxious — someone couldn't pick a song to play, so they cruised past old blues, rock, and country to settle on the latest hits from Nashville. Very irritating. Worst onion rings I've ever had. Pulled pork sandwich was not as good as what you can get at Union Terminal food service.
  6. I call shenanigans.
  7. 1. By a long shot.
  8. ^That's fine, but no one nationally will talk about the construction of a skyscraper in Cincinnati.
  9. $14.2 million for the garage. At least, that was the budget proposed. I think they had some overruns. The cost to temporarily move the Fountain offsite during construction was projected at $500k. What people are complaining about is that it doesn't seem that different after all that construction. They say that for many reasons, but here are two: 1) People have really short memories 2) The materials used in the square are roughly the same color. It's silly, but I think most people are experiencing the space at that level of superficiality. I really think people are by and large blind to the biggest improvements: the removal of the stage, the flattening of the eastern section, and the removal of the 5th street wall.
  10. Very well. Many folks spoke, including John Schnieder and thomasbw, in favor of the streetcar. Only one voice expressed skepticism, though her main point I suppose was that Cincinnati isn't Portland. The presentation was solid, though I hope they post the materials online. Virtually all of the council members on the committee spoke favorably. Bortz and Tarbell were the strongest supporters, as well as Berding. Thomas is so excited he wants run more lines immediately, which surprised me somewhat. Ghiz had some questions, and it sounds like she's concerned about how we pay for it, but she said she's convinced that it's a good idea. Only Monzel didn't weigh in. As Bortz said, it was a love-fest.
  11. It's an extremely greasy spoon. I used to eat there far too often.

I despise interleague play, so I pretend it doesn't exist. Just like the fact that the Braves can trace their lineage to the Red Stockings.
  13. http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070520/NEWS01/705200343 Does Cincy need streetcars? Backers say loop could spur revival BY TONY LANG | [email protected] Michael Moose envisions sleek, new streetcars that whisk riders from riverfront condos to downtown theaters to trendy boutiques in Over-the-Rhine. A 4-mile streetcar loop could do that and more, he says, while encouraging commerce and community ties in the city's central core. That vision soon will get a crucial airing. A City Council committee expects to hear by month's end from consultants on whether a modern streetcar loop would be a good fit for Cincinnati.
  14. I went in Park + Vine as well. It's gonna be incredible. I've already picked out something to get as soon as they open June 1. They're going for LEED certification as well, which is nice, and have requested a bike rack for the sidewalk in front of the store. Very cool.
  15. It's worth the risk.
  16. ^Will do, boss.
  17. The most interesting bit about that article is the byline — Uptown. Might not be new, just the first time I've noticed it.
  18. ^ Have you thought about asking them where they went to high school? Alternatively, you could just show them your résumé and sit back. Game. Set. Match.

I just walked it in 1:28. I''m not good with arbitrary sub-neighborhood district boundaries.

^Is this building in the Brewery District? Seems too far south to me, but what do I know? EDIT: nevermind, it is. That said, I think giving Taylor this money is a bad idea.
  21. That part of the entry should simply be deleted. It brings nothing to the table.
  22. I really think you are misreading the situation if you think that the NAACP has been handed the reins. It's more than a bit alarmist to say that the project won't happen on time or at all because of this issue. It's already been delayed, and there are any number of issues that can still delay it; this is just one of many. The Banks is a big, important project. $600 mil is a lot of money to move through the economy, especially since the multiplier effect is high in construction. The public policy purpose is to target the impact of this money moving through the economy to areas where it is most needed: small business, minority and women owned firms. Don't worry, white dudes still get paid. What are the inclusion goals for the project? I don't think anyone is saying 50-50. I do agree with you on Smitherman's tactics. But the stadium construction fell well short of these goals, and Smitherman is trying to make a mark...
