What's worth more??
Rando, I understand where you are coming from, but you're ignoring the very reasonable input from the pope. You're making the mistake of equating monetary reward with how much value we place on life. But if you do want to get into the nitty gritty of the specific cases and compare them, OK. It's a bit disengenuous to say that a dog got "mistreated." It was skinned and boiled. As for Marcus, he was only missing at the time, it's wasn't the murder case it later became. The biggest reason nobody ponied up cash for Marcus? Because it was clear from the start that Liz Carrol was lying her ass off when she said he was missing. That story was questioned almost from the beginning, and plenty of people rightly surmised that there was more going on than was being let on. No trust, no sympathy, no cash.

Cincinnati: General Transit Thread
That's Mt Adams, not Mt Auburn. So while it's not geographically accurate, I could imagine it being placed like that in some stylized map. I doubt that stop would exist, but there you go. Corryville is clearly incorrect. Maybe he meant Clifton heights? At any rate, I dig it. Particularly when you keep in mind it's meant to be tongue in cheek.

Absolute "No" on Ripley's. Cincinnati Museum Center is in far, far better financial shape than the Freedom Center. But yeah, one museum is enough for the riverfront.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Thanks for the update John. Good to hear that Findlay is the clear choice for the northern destination. I don't think that Vine is a good choice for the streetcar northbound. Main seems like a better fit and it's relatively uncongested. thomasbw, do you mean running on the left side down Walnut? I can guess that traffic guys aren't going to want to have any more interference with the two left turn lanes onto 5th, especially since Govt Square just improved that situation.

Cool video. I think working something like that into Michael Moose's presentation would help show off what we're talking about for those that can't make the trip.

Pro-Urban/Pro-City songs
^I wouldn't go as far as all that. But it's typical of this place that they should be chosen above all others to represent the city. What was the meeting like when the chamber decided to get Jake Speed. Suit 1: To attract young knowledge workers to ensure Cincinnati's economic competitiveness in the decades ahead, we need a song. Something that talks about what a vibrant, exciting place Cincinnati is. You know, something for the kids. Suit 2: Right, I've heard about these iPod gizmos. The kids these days really like the music. Suit 3: Oh, I know. How about that hip little band that had one hit. Something about a supernatural union? Suit 1: Blessid Union of Souls? Too late, the Reds got 'em. Suit 2: What about Bootsy? Suit 1: Bengals. Suit 3: Frampton? Suit 1: I wish. But that guy won't leave Indian Hill for less than 10 grand. Suit 2: How about Jake Speed and the Freddies? Nothing says progressive, forward looking city like a charming rag tag bunch of guys who pretend it's the 19th century! Suit 1: Done. Make sure they mention Frampton though.

Anybody else find it strange that Joe Wessels apparently thinks Vine street is one block away from Main?

Cincinnati: Most Diverse Place in the City
Pitiful's was my go to spot for, oh, 3 or 4 years. Maybe it was just me, but I think it used to be much, much better. It was probably the bar tenders. Ton of great memories there, from post Opening Day revelry to watching belly dancers with David Wells.

Are you guys being paid by 3CDC to call part of OTR the Gateway Urban Living Quarter?

I can't believe people are actually using the phrase "Gateway Urban Living Quarter." Nice pics.

An Over-The-Rhine Museum?
The Tenement Museum in LES is amazing. I've had the same thought about having the same thing in OTR. The Historical Society Library is the place to go for the research.

The "Apple Macintosh" Discussion Thread
OK, fine. http://db.tidbits.com/article/08405 http://rentzsch.com/tidbits/intelbasedMacBootIncompatibility Or just google "intel macs bootable firewire drive" or somesuch. And actually, reading that second post more closely, it looks like rentzsch figured a way to get a PPC and Intel booting drive on FW. Seems convoulted though. Macosxhints.com has stuff too.

The "Apple Macintosh" Discussion Thread
The little winky icon is like saying "with all due respect," you can pretty much say anything when you use it. Just 'cause you speak more slowly doesn't mean it isn't still nonsense. A FW drive formatted with GUID Partition Table will boot an Intel mac, but not PPC. A single FW drive will not be able to boot both Intel and PPC, but it most certainly can boot one or the other.
-
The "Apple Macintosh" Discussion Thread
That's nonsense. You can use a FW drive with Intel Macs.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
^It does seem like the cog railway would be more disruptive to auto traffic, you're right. A third rail with teeth would be particularly treacherous to those of us getting around on two wheels.
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I'd never even heard of a cog railway. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rack_railway So, if we run a rack and adhesion system up Clifton, would the transition be seamless? I imagine that the car would slow, just as it would going up hill anyway. But would a stop be necessary to engage the rack drive? Seems like fitting cars for that line to be dual driven wouldn't be too costly for the access it provides.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
It seems like the downtown route is positioned to be Phase I of the system. Would Phase II be an Uptown circulator, or would it be the physical link to Uptown? I'm trying to understand how this all shakes out, and I'd gladly settle for some speculation or informed opinion today rather than wait for solid answers in April. I think the crosstown route from Madison, to MLK, to Clifton, to Ludlow, to Hamilton would be really transformative. John, do you have any insight as to whether this is on the table? Oh, and congrats on the appointment.

Hayward's Hood, Ann Arbor's South U District
Nice. I spent my time in Ann Arbor living on E. University and S. Forest, after a stint in South Quad. Looks like not too much has changed.
