  1. Blame urban renewal, the railroad, the Eisenhower Interstate system, and a poor economy. The housing stock there stinks and is minimal and thanks to all those other factors the neighborhood is isolated. There was a glimmer of hope a few years back with the talk of redeveloping the Timko site (huge portion of Milo area) into a Lennox-esque development but interest in that waned quickly. When Timko was up and running (til the mid 90's I think?) there was little regard for the neighborhood since they had that anchor.
  2. I'd given up hope for this ever happening - great news!
  3. The ceiling tiles are amazing! I paid $50 a piece for very plain tin tiles to hang on a wall in my flat, those made me drool - the fact that they are still intact and used as intended is absolutely fantastic!

If it dates back any time during or before 1945 it's likely it had something to do with the war and a defense contractor swap. That'd explain the lack of records, I think things just "got done" back then.
  5. Critical mass has already been reached on High St., tearing down old but non-descript housing doesn't seem too bad for the campus in that area - plus OSU is moving ahead with extending Hall House on the SE corner of Neil & 10th across the street to the NE corner where the parking lot currently is. I don't remember the timeline but I believe prelim construction is already underway.
  6. I just heard back from the city... This address was formerly the Fleet Management location, which was relocated to Groves Rd. a few years back. Prior to that it was a city dump, going back about the turn of the century. What they are doing now is raizing everything and this will be the location of the vertical shafts of the biofilter that is being installed 100 ft. down for sewage. It will help alleviate some of the pleasant aromas downtowners get when passing the sewer openings (unfortunately I don't think it will impact some of those problems in German Village - different pipes). The project was approved by the Brewery District and will have a mulch area, a pump house (done in brick, suitable for the Brewery District), and then a parking lot will be on the way back of the site for Courthouse workers to be shuttled from.
  7. I emailed the division of economic dev. and got the response that it wasn't division's project but he was going to check with the other divisions... stay tuned.
  8. Does anyone know what is going on at the Police Vehicle Maintenance Complex (I think that is what it is) on Short St. in the Brewery District? It looks like they're tearing the whole thing out. It's a big eyesore so no complaints I just hadn't heard anything about it happening or what, if anything, will be replacing it.
  9. Wow, what a great blog! Thx for posting this yanni_gogolak!
  10. I'm not trying to downplay the incredible job that has already been done by metro parks or any other party involved, I live just around the block from the park and it is wonderful addition to the neighborhood and the entire city - I just wanted to make the point that mother nature can reclaim some of the trouble on her own, thought it was worth mentioning since the dispatch eluded to it already happening.
  11. Judging by the pics (keep in mind one is winter and one is summer/spring, improving the lushness) they've already taken back some of the north lot without much fanfare, I never heard anything about itemized cleanup costs. Such an improvement
  12. If a tree can grow out a vw then save the 200k grant money and just let mother nature take back the reigns on the lots since I'm sure after the 200k study is done there will be another substantial bill for environmental remediation
