I agree that the developers, city and RTA need to push to at leat leave the right of way open. We talk about needing more mid-low skill jobs around our transit lines to provide for better access to inner city residents. Well, there are 1000+ brand new jobs just about to open up a short mile down Northfield Road from the current terminus...

Have you actually ever seen one of the Clifton busses any time other than maybe 10:00 pm on a Sunday. This is one of the more heavily used lines in the RTA system. Maybe they appear empty to you because by the time they get all the way out to westlake, those who value any shred of good built environment and walkability have already gotten off the bus in Cleveland, Lakewood, and Rocky river. Because honestly, who wants to go further west past those points anyway?

Cleveland Relocation: need neighborhood, school recommendations
Welcome to the CLE! I was just in Minneapolis this past summer for the first time. It was a wonderful trip, and I was very impressed with the city. The neighborhoods you listed, you can't go wrong with. They all have pluses and minuses, but I think in terms of quality of life, it will depend on where you work and how you get around. Personally, I love Ohio City and University Circle, but I think Edgewater takes the cake for me in terms of someone who wants to be in the city but is raising a family. Very safe and walkable neighborhood. Not the huge cluster of bars within walking distance; however, you are very walkable to all the "essentials" such as grocery stores, drug stores, coffee shops, gyms, Edgewater Park, etc. And if you are planning a night out, you are smack in the middle of Lakewood and the Downtown/Ohio City entertainment districts. about a 10 minute drive in both cases. The neighborhood public elementary school is one of the better in the CLE public school systems as well. The best part of the neighborhood with the most well-kept housing and proximity to amenities is between Detroit Ave to the South all the way to the Lake and between West 117th (Cleveland/Lakewood border) to the West and the Railroad tracks to the East. If you are planning on working downtown, the Clifton Blvd Rapid Bus Line is one of the best public transit lines in the city. It is mostly reliable and very quick into downtown from that neighborhood. You could live a fairly car-lite lifestyle here without making tons of sacrifices. All the neighborhoods you listed were great. I think this one, in my opinion will offer you everything you need.

Electric Scooter Sharing
Wanted to report on my experience. I took one for the first time last night. I was a bit skeptical at first and thought it was very arrogant to just drop them in a city without any permits. I still think they need to figure that out, but as far as the experience, I approve. It basically fills a niche that is sorely needed in cities like Cleveland, and to be quite honest, this has the potential to be an economic development driver...Let me explain before you all throw stuff at me. Most people live in cities for the proximity of amenities. Think OHC, Downtown, Tremont, UC, etc. We are at a critical stage in Cleveland development where we have a pretty good critical mass in many areas but having trouble expanding outward from there. People want to be IN the action, so they are hesitant to repopulate other outlying areas around those popular neighborhoods. But those outlying areas can't redevelop amenities without an influx of population. The classic chicken and egg situation. For instance, let's take Cudell. No amenities in the immediate area but surrounded by "hot" neighborhoods and currently relatively cheap rent. If you want to live the city life, and go car light, you have limited options depending on what part of the neighborhood you're in. North, you have the Red Line, south, you have to go all the way to Lorain to catch the 22. And then on top of that, you have to work around a schedule with dwindling service. Uber rides to downtown or Lakewood are about 5-7 bucks a pop. That gets pricey every time you have to do grocery shopping, go to a coffee shop, out to eat etc. That's where these scooters come in...Sure they are not weather protected, and at the moment, you don't see swarms of them in Cudell, but a ride to Ohio City would take 10 minutes, downtown about 15-20. and the cost for that? $1.50-$3.00 one way. That's pretty damn convenient and opens up a whole new option for people who are priced out of the hotter neighborhoods but want the city life. Asiatown is another great example with, albeit better existing transit options than Cudell. You get the point. Just my very long and winded two cents.

So now I’m fairly confused? Isn’t this the same exact site that just went through landmarks for a roof replacement to the building? Seems like a waste of resources?I’m aware of progress with the large apartment building proposed at Lorain and w 20th, but too far away to be what KJP is talking about. I can’t discuss further yet :)

Holy crap. As a proud Clevelander who regrets the atrocities committed to my own city, I have to say that Cincinnati may win the unfortunate award of losing the most quality built environment of any of the 3 C's. I know it's been debated before on here, but this photo is...unbelievable.

Wow...I was ok with the other demos on the street since they were mostly single family crappy homes. But this is quite a large stock of commercial structures. WTF are they doing over there? They just made a beautiful new streetscape and they have decided to just erase the need for a walkable street

The area that Gateway and the highway replaced in my opinion is a bigger loss than the WHD. The Haymarket district I think it was technically called? This used to be the commerce hub of Cleveland and was a connecting point for so many main arteries leading into the near Southeast side which at that point had Chicago level urbanity. Now, complete corridors like Woodland, Central, Cedar, Orange are unrecognizable, and the one remaining corridor of potential (Broadway) is completely severed from Downtown by the stadiums, highways, low density industrial etc. Now with the stock of historic conversions basically gone Downtown, could you imagine if we could have just saved all of those buildings and watched the development spread along these corridors. Broadway will come back, but even when it does, the connectivity is completely gone, and the damage is already done.

I am willing to place a bet that Gilbert is discontinuing leases in order to consolidate spaces for larger stores...Maybe a Target, H&M, etc...Purely speculation

I bought a rental in the Lorain Station District because I love that strip and feel that neighborhood has some great potential to be very walkable...I hate, however, that Brady and the Westown CDC run that area. They have one of the most intact commercial strips in the whole city at their disposal, and I am afraid they will ruin the opportunity.

I am bad at images on here, but the Landmarks agenda is out for this week. Knez is proposing to build a pretty cool (and dense!) little development on the small lot at 4241 Lorain. This is the type of stuff that has me hopeful for the numerous missing teeth along Lorain and other commercial corridors

Looks like we are going to have to rally the troops on Urban Ohio to send off letters of support again ::) These people are nuts. This isn't a cul de sac in Solon. It's in the middle of a vibrant urban neighborhood that would become even more vibrant with the addition of this development.

Congrats YABO! My fiancé live downtown and have been looking it that area, but inventory is low...All the more reason for developments like this! And before anyone throws out the argument of "these are rentals", think that even if a few of the current older residents in the neighborhood retire and decide to downsize to a newer rental with no maintenance, that opens up homes to be purchased and lovingly cared for by new owners. And there's no parking argument here either because it appears to include ample on site parking.
