  1. The only two days a year that this may cause additional issues (at least in Cleveland) is St Patty's day and Home opener. Other than that, nothing will change. It's not like everyone who goes to our downtowns is there to get super trashed and party all night. The majority of people like to just go out for a nice dinner and a couple drinks. This may even encourage them to take a late evening stroll and add more people to the streets!
  2. Seriously, the argument of needing mixed income in Cleveland neighborhoods so we don't price out lower income people is not really warranted. As much progress as we have made, the average price for a home in the city is still well below $100,000. Take a second and look at other cities real estate prices on Zillow and realize how low ours really are. We need more newer, higher priced housing to go with our glut of older, cheaper housing to provide more options to everyone.
  3. I don't see an issue with the townhomes proposed. They are at the same setback as the current homes, and they raise property values of the area much more than the existing church.

^Wow that's a little harsh considering a city like Detroit is even making progress given it's situation. Sorry not every city is on the same level as Cincy.
  5. I very much respect police officers especially with all the crap that people are putting them through theses days...However, that said, from years of experience, I can agree that the transit police are the most useless of all the police agencies. Too busy checking fares instead of actually dealing with the people who try their hardest to make every transit ride as unpleasant as possible.
  6. I have a random question that pertains to this thread. So I know the new Max Hayes high is opening this fall, and I originally thought the old site was going to be redeveloped with storefronts, apts, etc. However, now, according to the Plain Dealer, the school district is aiming to build a new high school at that site unless they find somewhere more suitable? Does anyone on the inside have any insight on what is going on here? I really hope they are not going to waste that prime piece of real estate for a damn school.
  7. Were the victims random St. Patricks day celebrators? Yes unfortunately. In this case, I feel race is a very important part of the story, so I will go there. The entire group was black (male and female) and they were targeting younger white males for their phones/wallets.
  8. I watched that public square melee from my apt window. The kids looked like a bunch of animals, and it was very embarrassing. I tried to help the cops by pointing out who the ones who started it were, but there were just so many of them. I have no respect for anyone who gangs up on people like that. Ridiculous.
  9. ^Agree. I view Town Hall as the slightly more trendy cousin of Around the Corner in Lakewood. For some reason, my friends love the place, but I despise being there on a Friday or Saturday night.
  10. Much agreed my friend. Let me just point out that I am very happy to hear this. I just hate how anymore, the comments section devolves into City vs. Burbs (and I am a resident of the city just to clarify)
  11. I love the positive news, but whoever the pro-Cleveland commenter (BigRichard) is, is really going about their arguments very immaturely. It's actually quite embarrassing.
  12. Win Win Win. I know sometimes environmental issues get in the way, but I really like when we renovate our old warehouses. It's something that makes cleveland special.
  13. Beautiful photos of Cincy. I was just in OTR for the first time in December. I was very impressed with the amount and quality of the architecture. Cincy is very lucky to have such a beautiful neighborhood. Agreed on the housing costs. It is beyond cheap to live here. I am looking for a house right now and what you get for your money here in Cleveland is incredible compared to other cities. I assume it is the same for Cincy. IMHO, Ohio in general is a sleeping giant. Three large cities each with very different architecture and topography. We have the most diversity in cities of any state out there!
  14. The grammar of the witness they interviewed tells me that they are probably an upstanding contributing member of society...
  15. Love the building and the added height! Can't really tell from the pic whats going on with the parking? Are there any others where that one came from?
  16. I know everyone was let down by the Warehouse District proposal (which if this is successful will surely be the next puzzle piece to fall), but this time just feels different. I think Bob Stark feels that too. Downtown as little as 3 years ago was much different than it is now. Residential living back then was still in it's infancy with Pinnacle being...well... the Pinnacle of downtown housing. Fast forward a short time and we have some serious momentum going on right now. Far from the occasional building conversion of the past. It seems like the good news just keeps coming. Even the neighborhood development just feels like it's really picking up steam. I think we can confidently say that 2014 was the year Cleveland turned the corner. The rest of the world is beginning to realize this too. Personally, I feel like that is the difference between Pesht and this. Back then, that felt like a dream. This feels real
  17. ^I hate when he does that!! My guess is the old max Hayes school site...or the plaza across from the market?
  18. Good news and a sign of work possibly beginning soon. As I was leaving for work this morning, I noticed they were pulling off some of the ugly bland concrete facade on the lower floors of the building. I presume this is to get an idea of the condition of the original facade underneath. I hope they make the ground floors half as beautiful as they used to be!
  19. What's next is we keep pushing the development in Detroit Shoreway closer and closer. I hate to say it, but the current residents (not all but enough) have proven that they cannot responsibly care for the place. Time to kick em out and replace them with responsible citizens. Detroit Shoreway is quickly filling up. It's only a matter of time before the re-development crosses the railroad tracks to Cudell

As someone who lives downtown and frequently jogs the Detroit Superior and Lorain bridge "loop" through Ohio City, I can tell you that this little plaza actually gets used quite often. A lot of downtown residents jog/bike this loop. In fact, it's commonly referred to as the "gauntlet" mostly due to the unobstructed wind and up-down nature of the route. It is a perfect 3 mile loop for those who care. Needless to say, I would not complain if a transit center was built and the path integrated into the development!
  21. We're about to get a massive development removing one of the more prominently ugly lots downtown...ohh and we're getting a nice new perrrrtyy tower to go with it...No big deal at all.
  22. Wow, that is one of my catalytic "I'll believe it when I see it" events. Quick question, are you referring to THE market parking lot (rectangular lot between 24th Pl. & 24th St.) or the "other" market parking lot (triangular lot at abuts the RTA tracks)? I am referring to the larger triangular lot next to the tracks. They were taking the samples along the 24th st fence though FWIW. Can we be so lucky as to get rid of two major parking lots in that area? I hope so!
  23. So I have been hearing rumors of a parking garage with storefronts being constructed sooner rather than later on the market parking lot. To that point, I did see a team drilling core samples in that very lot last night...
  24. Very impressive. They just keep getting better and better
