CLEVELAND: Opportunities for Volunteering
Thanks guys. She is not against medical related firms but would prefer something different such as community gardens, community development corporations, community outreach, etc.

CLEVELAND: Opportunities for Volunteering
My girlfriend is a registered nurse who now has a little more free time after graduating college. She works 3 twelve hour shifts a week, so naturally, she'd like something to fill that extra time and wants to give back to this great city by volunteering. If anyone has any suggestions to help her out, it would be much appreciated. Doesn't have to be healthcare related. Here are her preferences. Within the city of Cleveland (preferably west side or downtown) Easily accessible by public transit. Something cleveland related. She wants to be a part of the awesome momentum of the city. So stray away from soup kitchens, animal shelters, etc. Thanks guys!

Cleveland: Duck Island: Development and News
Check this small development out. Very nice looking townhomes. More interestingly, look at the address. Between this and the Fairmount Creamery development, it is nicve to start seeing some bleed over development. The push across the highway had to be made at some point. http://www.progressiveurban.com/p/259/3461655

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
^^ I can tell you exactly why the payment machines look like that. It's the little sh@ts in high school and middle school who ride the bus to school and think they are funny. I called them out the one day and the response was "You think your'e our mom or something?" My reply was "no I don't which is why I don't care if your ass goes to jail or not." I then called the RTA police who showed up and arrested them all. Awesome!

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
Actually, I like the design as well. The Emerald Alliance people know what they are doing in urban design! While it's not market rate which we'd all prefer, it matches the character of the neighborhood and interacts with the street fairly well (minus ground level retail)

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
Good riddance. I hate that building and it's ridiculously unnecessary setback. Please ohh please replace it with something of higher caliber. apts., townhomes, condos...This is a prime location between Clifton/Lakewood and Gordon Square and would be huge for bridging the gap between the two.

Cleveland: Downtown Retail Needs
YESSSSS! Definitely at the top of my list for downtown retail needed. Although the home goods store is up there too. Clothing retailers, while still needed, are not as high on my list. I'm a guy...I do my clothing shopping three times a year haha.

Cleveland: Campus District
Seriously, you guys don't make any sense to me. We complain that the Planning Commission doesn't push for good design, and when they finally do the right thing, we critique the hell out of everything. Complaining about Corner Alley and Positively Cleveland? Seriously? Positively Cleveland is a perfect location for out of towners, and how many other cities of our size can claim a bowling alley downtown. And as far as the claim that retail is relatively new around CSU...so what? it was only a couple years ago that we just started getting an actual campus life. These places have opened up BECAUSE of the influx of resident students. News flash, 1900 Food and Beverage has always been a "beverage" store that sold snack food as well. This has been the same way since my freshman year when I bought "beverages" there under age. Every campus has one. Hell other campuses have 5 or 6 1900's. Euclid has come a lonnnggg way and is only getting better. I am all for criticism, and I agree on some points, but this thread is getting a little ridiculous.

Cleveland: Campus District
Again, this is coming from someone who has been going to CSU for four years and making the trek from 24th to public square regularly. I PROMISE you guys that there are very few vacant storefronts between public square and the inner belt ( minus the area between 9th and 12th which will soon be changing). I can name two off the top of my head and that's it. The old Viking tavern and the old acapella space in the Keith building. Thats it. The rest is accounted for. The cousins cigar space is planned to have another quick eatery for CSU students. We need a campus bar to replace the Viking tavern. Seriously. Anyone got a few extra dollars lying around to spend on opening a bar would make a KILLING!!

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
^^ I live downtown as well and regularly make the trek down Prospect at all hours of the day/night to get to CSU. That area is very safe. The Executive lounge will now be considered a nuisance property by Cleveland law if they already weren't and be shut down by years end. I am willing to bet on that.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Time to shut that one down next. Sucks for crime stats, but the good thing is by having all of these shootings, we are ridding downtown of these sh*tholes. They are shooting themselves in the foot. Literally and figuratively. :shoot:

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
I agree. The one thing I hate about these articles is how they fail to mention that we're actually not losing jobs month to month. We are consistently lower jobs wise than in 2012. Notice how each month we're about 7500 jobs fewer than that same month last year. While that's not good news because it shows we're not growing, it at least shows that we are not losing month to month.

Cleveland: Campus District
When has it been determined that there are no storefronts on Euclid? I think that was just speculation on this board based on a rendering from far away.

Cleveland-Akron: Bicycling Developments and News
Glad to see this is being looked into. Lorain Ave is poised for greatness. We just need to bridge the gap between the Market District and The Fulton intersection.

Cleveland: Streetscape Improvements
^haha. Now that's a productive idea. Free labor at least. Thanks for the input guys. I think I'll redirect my suggestion to LAND studios and positively Cleveland. I'm hoping the justification I there. Especially with the new hotel coming and the gay games. They need to spruce up that connection between the WHD and the malls. Ill let everyone know when they respond to me
-
Cleveland: Streetscape Improvements
^Agreed. It actually sounds as if they are not only cooling their building, but also creating the power to do it in house. I have been around full scale generators, and this is on par with the noise level. The more I talk about it, the more I am convinced that the Justice center was the single most worst thing that was ever built in Cleveland. Would anyone have any idea who I could contact to pitch my idea about the public art project? 8Shades, you always seem to be Cleveland art savvy when it comes to this stuff. Any suggestions?

Cleveland: Streetscape Improvements
I am posting this here in response to the conversation going on in the convention center hotel thread. The discussion is about what to do with the blank wall of the new hotel along Hamilton St. I thought of an interesting idea and it also alleviates some of the lack of connectivity between the warehouse district and the new hotel. So even though the justice center and county jail are abominations and should have never been built, we have to live with them for a long time unfortunately. What if we could use the massive blank walls of the jail and empty "lawns" around the justice center for a massive interactive public art project? It would liven up the area between the malls and warehouse district. Plus this may fit in well with the shipping container storefronts proposed along St. Clair. There is so much empty "canvas" that it also has the potential to make national news should something very cool be done. Thoughts?

Cleveland: Downtown: Playhouse Square Development and News
What a joke. So is that what you do when something isn't working? Just give up? I don't entirely disagree with some of the points made, but to just move for a reason such as that is pretty embarassing

Clevelands unused / abandoned commercial buildings
Here's a couple suggestions on the West Side 4617 Fenwick Ave 4314 Clark Ave (One of my favorite vacant buildings in CLE) Actually, There are a lot of unused and under appreciated structures on Clark and Dennison Ave's And on the East Side 1360 E 47th St (Awesome visibility from St Clair Ave) 1001 Addison Rd. (In an up and coming area. St Clair Superior Dev Corp is working hard and bringing in artists to the surrounding area) 1013 E 63rd St. (Same as above) 5419 Broadway ave (I LOVE this building. Slavic Village is also on the comeback as well)

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
^ Amen! Ohio city is doing just fine on its own. Maybe some traffic calming measures could be implemented north of Kay ave and the street narrowed, but other than that,OC is perfect!! Maybe the architect should focus his attention towards the northern end of 25th. With all of the impending delevopment coming up...

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
I'm willing to bet that's where it happened or at least where it's started. That place is a drain on that area

OSU/UC/CSU urban planning programs
Euorkie, I didn't know CLE was planning a bikeshare! I know it's a little off topic for this thread, but when will it be up and running? Do they have coverage area yet?
