  1. Not to mention... Why would the clinic buy metro when metro provides an easy way for them to avoid financially challenging patients? CCF dropped pretty much all the Obamacare and Medicaid plans (except Oscar) and all those patients go to Metro.
  2. When I had the really rough trip a month or so ago, the lights on the train were also going on and off along with the beeping. And when the train was moving it was crawling. Yesterday was better.
  3. I rode over to LI yesterday as well. It's been bad this summer. A crosstown trip I took in June or July was even worse. The west side part has been way worse than the east side of recent. I always figured it had to do with going to fast in stretches of track that aren't so smooth.
  4. Real shame about that movie and I share your antipathy to the state government, but the impact of these film tax credits is definitely debatable.
  5. This is true, it was a big factor in the Lakewood Hospital closure.
  6. Ugh, Scene is insufferable.
  7. No modern manufacturing firm is going to choose a multi-story building in 2019 no matter what the cost is. If a manufacturer did want it, the city would likely, gladly, help with the cost. What the city isn't going to do is buy it speculatively to then sell to an end user. And the city isn't good at marketing properties so you wouldn't want them to do that anyways. It's definitely not a "fantasy" to put apartments in a building like this. Apartments have been going in in buildings like this for decades. Add to all of this the increasingly residential character of the neighborhood around it, it's highly unlikely to be an industrial use ever again. The city and philanthropic communities would also be beyond thrilled to fund more industrial development - land assembly (for the sprawling sites necessary for modern industrial) is the toughest issue, not availability of funds.
  8. The first one is a rendering of an earlier version, according to this page: https://clevelandhistorical.org/items/show/794#&gid=1&pid=2
  9. "The 9" is great. They've built a very strong brand to where even all the Boomer suburbanites know what it is. I don't think Athelon is that bad though.
  10. Huh? Seems like they don't want to actually consider the hard choice, which is cutting coverage to increase frequency. Can't say I blame them too much though.
  11. It probably popped up on some feed because of the other story, but that story's 2 years old FYI.
  12. The building on Wilson Mills must be the original. The huge campus is a mile or so away off of SOM Center Rd.
  13. I agree with you, I much prefer the slightly old-timey name. That works especially in an industry like insurance where people want long-standing, established companies. And coming into downtown on 71, that sign was the first thing you saw.
  14. The lack of condo construction as I understand is due to banks and developers not wanting to deal with the headaches and [perceived] risks, not due to a lack of demand. A lot of banks got burned on condos in '08-'09 so now they are very very tough in terms of presale requirements etc. This article got written at length about the issue in Cleveland but I'm thinking most of it would apply equally in Cincy: As downtown Cleveland grows, condos are in short supply. So it might be that the people you are talking about are choosing to buy in other neighborhoods because they can't find anything to buy in Downtown, not vice versa. Cincy does have more 'complete' walkable neighborhoods than Cleveland does though.
  15. That is pretty much the color of the Browns helmet.
  16. There are lots of dive bars in the Flats... Just not in the Scott Wolstein part of the Flats.
  17. Yeah it's just a very long term project. The other thing is the demolitions up on 25th need to be done **very** carefully to avoid exacerbating the instability, so I assume that's what is slowing down that piece.
  18. There is funding to purchase and demolish buildings along 25th north of Riverview towers: http://realestate.cleveland.com/realestate-news/2017/02/ohio_city_park_plan_at_irishto.html The port went out for engineering work for the bulkheads this past winter: http://www.portofcleveland.com/media/1274/poc-itb-stability-design-soq-package.pdf
  19. The issue is funding. Last I heard, the City and Port Authority along with OCI are trying to find money and develop an overall financing strategy to pay for the massive costs identified in the vision plan they did a few years ago.
  20. I like the name, just curious about the story behind it and if I may say, a little skeptical that it will catch on.
  21. Nope... I just thought it was interesting that somebody just decided to throw up some banners with a new name for the road and wondering if anyone had the story.
  22. They are banner type signs along the light posts all the way along the road. Then it says "Ohio City," "Gordon Square," or "Edgewater" depending on where you're at
  23. Have you guys noticed the new signs on the Shoreway that say 'Edgewater Parkway?' They've been up for a while. It doesn't look like anybody actually changed the name of the road, just threw up some signs.
  24. What they are romanticizing is the amenities that density brings - lots of retail options in a short (usually walking) distance, frequent transit service, safety in numbers. Nothing wrong romanticizing those things.
  25. Bob needs to learn to quit when he's ahead.
