Ohio Congressional Redistricting / Gerrymandering
This desperation play is how you know he’s losing. People will see though this just like they saw through the Issue 1 nonsense last year. This amendment will cruise to victory with plenty of crossover support from republican voters. Enjoy this nepo baby’s temper tantrums. We’re talking about a guy who lost an election to Bernie Moreno, no wonder he’s so bitter.

The city and region will be better off if it can be rid of these openly corrupt parasites, here’s hoping for a spectacular public downfall.

Cleveland: Suburban Crime & Safety Discussion
The George’s did not support Bibb, right? They supported Basheer Jones, Zack Reed, and maybe Kelley in the general? Also some of their preferred council candidates seem to have lost IIRC. Hopefully nobody is going to protect them. Edit - and I should note this was filed in Cleveland municipal court, which would mean the case is being handled by the city prosecutor, an unelected office that reports to Bibb, and not the elected county prosecutor who he gave money to? Attorneys correct me if I’m wrong.

Cleveland: Suburban Crime & Safety Discussion
How shocking that guys who create meat market bars and want to be grown men with all these 22 year old women in their orbits, are abusive to women. Same types of sleaze balls own some of the biggest bars at Oxford/Miami U and I’m sure everywhere.

i don’t disagree, but it’s important to note the landscape has changed in the past 5-10 years and owners don’t have the leverage they used to. The issue has gotten a lot of attention since John Oliver did a segment on it and it’s one of the few issues where the left and the right agree! Nobody wants to pay for stadiums. Also, LA got two teams and Vegas got one. There’s a good chance Jimmy is not going to get a much better deal in Saint Louis - their voters aren’t going to want to pay for it either.

That is the way the game is played.

yeah, that is an important point which I was overlooking.

Not sure I completely agree with this. A few bars on W. 6th would struggle but I think the point with nfl teams only having 8 (9?) home games is that the impact on bars and restaurants isn’t all it’s made out to be.

Heard from some neighbors that the grocery store is no more but haven't been able to confirm anywhere... anybody heard anything? There was a planning meeting the other night but I couldn't go.

There weren’t many candidates available with HC experience. I can’t speak to Atkinson vs Borrego and who would be preferable of the two though. Word is Dan Gilbert preferred Atkinson…

Columbus: Fifth by Northwest (5xNW) Development and News
mu2010 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe tourism and hype of Denver, Austin, Nashville, etc have also created all sorts of problems for those cities where basically they all now have locals who hate newcomers and many who are getting priced out of their own neighborhoods. Not saying I don’t want more visitors to all of Ohio, I do, and I love cranes in the air as much as any of you… but our more moderated pace of growth and development has its advantages.

Detroit: Developments and News
Spent last weekend in Detroit and stayed in the Greektown Casino Hotel, on a higher up floor, facing the city. Best city views I’ve had just about anywhere, because it’s essentially in a perfect location. Agree on the skyline, it’s a beauty. Hudson’s building is just about topped out. Agree with other posters about the RenCen. Kind of cool on its own, especially the interior is interesting, but it’s horrible from an urban planning standpoint. Residential would be the best option but would be quite a large number of units to absorb. Sounds like GM is going to get Bedrock involved. Last note, in general, amazing to see how far downtown Detroit has come since I first started going there ten years ago. Streets were packed - Even the people mover was being quite well utilized.

Columbus: Harrison West: Thurber Village Developments and News
So happy to see this being redeveloped. I lived around the corner during my days in Columbus. The loss of the Giant Eagle was a huge bummer for that beautiful neighborhood. Lucky’s is a great store too. I will have to come and visit soon. There was a lot of talk at the time that Giant Eagle would never let it go to a competitor. Glad that ended up being false.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Hi Brian! I had to step back from the internet a few years ago because I checked my phone too much. UO was mostly an unfair casualty of that, it was mostly Reddit that was the problem. There is a big project across the street from my house in Lakewood that finally got me to sign back in the other day. I'll try to start dropping in a little more often 😀

I say let them go to Brook Park if they want. Free the downtown lakefront. I ain't voting for any levies though. I think the tides are finally turning against stadium subsidies in this country. The past 5-10 years have seen a lot of scrutiny on stadium deals, that wasn't part of the conversation in the 1990s. Kansas City won the super bowl and then they voted down a stadium deal a few months later. No more LA to threaten to move to and the optics are horrible. It's actually something that isn't polarized along the typical lines either. Nobody likes it. I'm not saying they won't get anything, but I don't think voters or politicians are going to get pushed around to the extent they have been in the past. I don't think that Brook Park will actually happen though. I think we're getting a renovation of the existing stadium, this is all smoke and mirrors. Same thing just happened in DC / Virginia with the Wizards and Capitals. They announced a big deal with Virginia to move to Alexandria and create a dumb village, then surprise, nope that isn't happening they're just renovating Capital One arena.

Correct, it's just very poorly marketed. And local leaders seem barely interested in changing that.

Lakewood: Downtown: CASTO Development
Hello everyone. Haven’t been on in a while. A few years ago I bought a house and I now live directly across from that d@&$ pit. Thanks for the article @KJP. Excited for this and will email the council member expressing my support. Rolled my eyes so hard at that dumb 3 AM delivery truck comment they almost fell out of my skull. We already have ambulances and trains, not to mention bats that currently love that pit and make a high pitched squealing sound all night long. There are other stores getting deliveries too. Can’t wait til that chain link fence is out of my view. I’m thrilled at the idea of walking across the street for groceries. It’s a dream come true.

Cleveland: Local Media News & Discussion
Why on earth is the Plain Dealer digital edition a whopping $22.99 per month, but Sunday print Delivery + Digital access only $18.99? And the garbage interface of Cleveland.com is only $9.99. (I got an iPad for reading and I'd prefer a "newspaper" feel of the Plain Dealer "Digital Access.") It's a sad state of affairs at the PD. Even in this tough era for local journalism, the Columbus Dispatch seems to be doing things much more sensibly - $9.99 for a digital subscription with no disction between the "website" and the paper. (I am familiar with the story of Advance and the union-busting of the PD newsroom, hence Cleveland.com being separate, but still you'd think they'd get their pricing to make some sort of logical sense.) Can anyone who has either of these subscriptions share your experience? Am I better off going with Cleveland.com and forgoing the newspaper interface? Is there any real difference in content? I'm trying to get away from national news and read local news more primarily.

Housing Market & Trends
Towards end of May/beginning of June, certain houses I had my eye on were noticeably taking a bit longer to sell. Meaning, they take (gasp) 9-10 days, two full weekends. As opposed to just listing on Thursday and having an offer accepted by Sunday, which was the case in March-April. I haven't gone back to look at what price those went for but I'm assuming it's going to be reflected as a cooling of price growth and bidding wars, if not an outright decrease. You can also start to see some small decreases on MLS listings. I believe Yabo is correct that we are not going to see drastic decreases in these types of neighborhoods but even returning to 2021 prices would be nice at this point. Inventory is definitely still low though, and people locked into low rates aren't going to be racing to sell their houses. It's a waiting game now, we're going with the patience strategy instead of the FOMO strategy. I've also been fortunate enough to be able to sock away a nice down payment fund so if rates go up and prices come down a bit, we'll just put more down.

I live right at a place where I use those on ramps often, but yes they're completely redundant and unnecessary.

Housing Market & Trends
I gotta get back to the bank and see if I can get a pre-approval letter for doubles. Third Fed is my main lender and they don't finance them but FFL i think does. In theory we're open to doubles but haven't seriously pursued one yet.

Housing Market & Trends
Started looking seriously in March (2022). It's been pretty brutal, we lost a few bidding wars in April/May. Then in June there really just wasn't a ton on the market at all. We just got back from a two week trip so now going to get back into looking and hopefully find something in July or August. But then we'll need to find an apartment or somewhere to live as my lease here ends at end of September. Still looking in Lakewood ideally between Detroit and Clifton, something that's not updated that we can put some TLC into. so we're still relatively picky but we know what we want so at this point might as well wait for it. I'm not sad about interest rates going up because I'd rather not overpay and end up underwater.
