Dennis seems to respect Bibb in some way given his concession speech, however, the Bibb coalition and Kucinich coalitions don't seem to have much overlap so yeah not sure Bibb would want his endorsement.

Doesn't change my Bibb support, makes me like Zack Reed more. I was not a Reed fan in 2017 (thought he didn't really have a good argument against Frank unfortunately, his whole campaign was catchphrases like "Safety!" and "Hire more cops!" without actual serious discussion of those issues) but I've warmed up to him this campaign season. Partially just because you see the guy everywhere around town and he has just seemed like a good guy to me this time around. Then he makes the right decision with his endorsement. 👏

I will be going - we'll need to post some way to identify ourselves while we're at the event so we can all link up. Maybe a special thread and we can post what we're wearing/where we're standing or whatever haha.
  4. Was in Columbus yesterday visiting some family, then girlfriend and I went out to dinner in the short north and after we went for a walk. Happened to walk down High and turn right on Nationwide around 7:15. People were everywhere (on a Buckeyes game-night no less!), and after a few minutes I figured out why, so we followed the crowd all the way to the new stadium. Awesome vibe on the street and the exterior is striking. Very happy the new stadium appears to have turned out excellently, will return ASAP to go to a match.

You can only do so much til you have to pass the baton. And I assume the blog is keeping you busy these days. It really is a shame Strickland lost the 2010 election, things would have been different if he won.

I would absolutely go. I don't use the Bird App so somebody post the details here when he sends them out!
  8. Maybe if it falls in his insurance company can cover the 40 million stabilization. Plus maybe a couple hundred million in damages to the steel mill. Then we could use the money on something else 😁
  9. Yeah, any honest assessment of the value has to take all of that into account, regardless of how much money he makes from condom PSA billboards. The land and building are basically worthless, a ticking time bomb.
  10. Yeah that's kinda what I was thinking when I said they have the absolute right to take it... But I guess they still have to prove the public use and whatnot in court.
  11. That makes sense given, and correct me if I'm wrong, the Port has the absolute right to take the property, and any litigation would solely be about whether or not the compensation was fair.
  12. I had been following this project pretty closely but I missed the news about the 12.8 million of COVID $$ being allocated to the project until I saw it yesterday in the PD. Truly awesome news, now we just need a judge to take care of Bobby George in expeditious fashion and we'll be golden.

What on earth is your point, that is how politicians talk. Kevin Kelley is going on and on about how we're going to make a Cleveland a city where "every neighborhood counts." So? The reason why people on UO like Bibb is because he's an urbanist. It's not rocket science. Sheesh.

I was not around, but from what I understand Dennis was extremely, extremely combative back in the day. (He softened later in life.) Bibb presents himself as a change candidate but he also comes off as very collaborative... So definitely some differences there. Bibb also has much more of a professional class vibe and the education and experience that go with it, while Dennis was true working class. What makes Bibb so politically viable is his educational/professional pedigree combined with his humble east side Cleveland background.

    Yes, I agree.

Assuming Kevin Kelley gets the Dennis vote, all Bibb has to do is consolidate 2/3 of that east side Jones/Reed/Williams vote and he's golden. West Park will be the battleground as it seems it could legitimately split between the two.

I think experience criticisms of politicians are legitimate criticisms, but it's only one thing you have to use to evaluate the candidates out of many. Case in point - I was very happy to get an experienced politician in the White House after 4 years of chaos and insanity. But after 16 years of the dull, slow, albeit responsible stewardship of Frank G. Jackson, I wouldn't mind giving the keys to less experienced, visionary type candidate, who while clearly knowledgeable on the issues, has no direct leadership, managerial, or political experience of this type of organization. (That being said, the Mayor of Cleveland has about 9,000 employees when including the airports, utilities and everything else. The Mayor is a CEO. Kevin Kelley has more experience in City Hall than Justin Bibb, but he probably has never managed more than a few employees.)

It's nice to have somebody coming from a background of more of an academic and non-political understanding of the issues facing Cleveland and cities in general, as opposed to yet another ward politician. And I don't even mean to make a blanket statement that ward politicians are always bad, but that parochial mentality is part of what's been holding Cleveland back for such a long time.

Poor Tony is having a really bad week between this and the W. 25 eminent domain thing. 🤣

Howse beat Dow narrowly, but, does that mean that they have to go head to head in November? Or is it over?
  21. I do understand these points, and i wish there was room for a bike lane. What gets me mad about the opposition to this project is Bowen's influence and some of the ridiculous arguments they are using on their website, such as: 1) there's no demand for a bike lane here because they don't get a lot of cyclists as things are right now 2) the extra concrete will cause environmental issues like drainage and runoff problems and climate change And many more.
  22. I'm looking at the protest permitting process right now and also trying to build a case. I think I would like to do this, I will be in touch. Does anyone know who's behind the "Safe Lake Avenue" group who was in favor of the project? https://www.safelakeavenue.org/ Also, in the interest of having an airtight case I'd love to find out the conclusions of the arborist that metroparks supposedly hired, I wonder if that's public record.
  23. I'm really angry about this. David Bowen being behind it adds salt to the wound as he is a sleezeball as previously demonstrated by his sketchy Irishtown Bend dealings not to mention how much $$$ the city paid his firm to move their HQ downtown. Welcome to Cleveland, where our planning commission chairman protests bike lanes in his neighborhood! I have a Lake Ave address (in one of the apts) and I attended all the meetings to try to show neighborhood support but obviously the homeowners won out. I've never done anything like it before, but I kind of envision some kind of protest where we get a bunch of cyclists to all walk our bikes down that sidewalk and make a little noise. Who wants in?

I think Basheer Jones is a pretty good debater overall, but the attack on Zack Reed about what he got done in his Ward rings hollow to me. Anyone could get lots of development done in Ward 7. Other than Downtown itself, Wards 6 and 7 are going to get the most investment from a jobs/industrial perspective. Ward 2 is an entirely different animal, it's far away from downtown and more suburban in character. It's apples to oranges. It's a snappy political line though that could work well on voters who don't follow urban development as closely as we do.
