The Akron Rubberducks???
This is a complete joke.... From all the backlash and hate on Twitter and Facebook I wouldn't be surprised if they changed it back. It is ridiculous.

Akron-Canton: Restaurant News & Info
I really like the design of this! I never had any doubt that Ken Babby would put the best in Canal Park. Should be an exciting place to go. Does anyone know the progress of Nuevo on Mill St.? I see signs up showing renderings, but I don't think there was any timeline announced for when they were opening. Also....I just drove by 22 Exchange a few days ago and noticed an Italian place going in just to the left of House of Hunan. I will have to get out there this week and get photos of everything. So many updates!

I don't mind brick either... I'm just saying from the rendering it looks like the exact shade red brick that they're covering every new building in Akron with. It looks way too plain, and there are no significant elements in the design that make me say wow. I'm not saying it has to be a world renowned design. Look for example at the new Marriott Courtyard hotel built in University Circle in Cleveland. It used two colors of brick and a modern looking siding.

They have an animation of the project now on the Beacon website and it shows the church still intact. I am surprised that they can fit all of that on the site. That animation made me dizzy...Yeah it doesn't seem like a big enough space for all of that. I'm not holding my breath this actually happens.

I'm saying to red brick is getting old...Canal park, all of U of A's new buildings and residence halls, the football stadium, the hospitals, the First Energy and Erst and Young towers...etc... I know Akron needs this, but what I'm saying is start caring about good design. Cleveland seems to know what this is about with all the unique buildings that are being build up there.

I don't think that's their long term vision. I think that's the overall vision. Right? Without expanding over to the church they don't have a hotel..Only the Greystone, that they plan on turning into conference rooms and recreation spaces. I think the design of the two buildings clash. And I'm sick of all new construction in Akron being built from red brick. Can't we design with new elements to give a look of diversity?

More photos. I have mixed emotions on the design...

Akron: Downtown Hotels
Nope...Just like the last few times they tried to build a hotel downtown. I don't know why they keep doing that. It's so frustrating.. :x

Well this is all I've seen....Name better change.

Akron: Downtown Hotels
I'm hoping this is a much bigger deal than we think... At least it should be. What I'm hoping for is the Greystone turn into more of the hotel meeting/rec space while a new building is built adjacent to it that would hold the rooms. I just can't imagine how the Greystone can be turned into a viable hotel. Also, they better be announcing a national brand to be running this.

Akron: Downtown Hotels
New hotel planned for downtown Akron By Katie Byard Beacon Journal business writer Published: July 15, 2013 - 02:36 PM One of downtown Akron’s treasured historic buildings, Greystone Hall on High Street, would be transformed into a hotel under a plan involving local and out-of-town partners. The 1917 structure, an old Masonic building opposite the John S. Knight convention center, is now owned by the city and is used by the convention center for various events. http://www.ohio.com/news/break-news/new-hotel-planned-for-downtown-akron-1.413325?localLinksEnabled=false&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter#.UeRCCDE54fk.facebook

I hate to sound like a broken record, but downtown has enough student housing. This development would be better if placed up near the university. I'm all for development downtown, I'm sure more students living on or around campus will more than support retail downtown. It's all about putting the right pieces in place to draw students down there. It's as if everyone wants to take the easy way out and place as much student housing downtown in hopes it will bring in retail. All I've seen it bring in is more hookah bars, bars/nightclubs, and sub par places to grab a bite to eat.

I agree, that spot is a terrible place for a residential complex. It would be great to see that lot renovated and re-purposed. I've never seen inside of that warehouse, but on the outside I think it would look great serving as some sort of market.

Downtown doesn't need anymore student housing. Why can't they build this up in University Park? Is there no market for 1-2 bedroom apartments for professionals downtown or something? Why does it always have to be 4 bedroom apartments for college students? If more projects like this go up then downtown will start becoming over saturated with college students. It's time to start thinking about young professionals and bringing more of a mix to downtown.

What build qualities are you talking about? I'm not very impressed with the build quality of 22 Exchange. Does anybody know if 401 Lofts will be completely furnished? I understand furnishing student housing, but if you're trying to market to young professionals I think that is a terrible choice.

Akron: Random Development and News
Akron is not building what Cleveland needs. The different between Akron and Cleveland right now is that Cleveland has hundreds of buildings that have a great potential to be turned into loft apartments, as you are already seeing this trend happen on Euclid and E.4th. Before Cleveland builds any new apartment buildings it would be better for them to utilize existing buildings. This is what Akron needs and plans to do desperately with the Civic Theater block. You are seeing things like 22 Exchange and 401 Lofts popping up in Cleveland around the Universities where there is a need for the housing close to campus. The problem with Akron is they are currently building for the students. Until they start developing for young professionals downtown, Akron will be far behind Cleveland for a while. They must begin focusing on keeping the 25-35 age groups downtown. Unfortunately I have beef with 401 Lofts as they are combining it with students and young professionals. If there is going to be any hope of a population boom downtown Akron needs to focus mainly on young professionals and start turning it into a talent retention city rather than a college town.

Cleveland: Retail News
I agree they were very pricy especially considering their demographic. I am definitely heading up there to see what they have on sale though! I don't think this will affect E. 4th too terribly. I'm sure they'll have something new in there in no time.

I've had the same idea about the welcome center and visitors shop. It would be a great place for Rubber City Clothing to expand and sell their clothing/akron memorabelia. If not that I think it would be a great place for an ice cream/frozen yogurt shop. Either there or under 22 Exchange. It would be great to get something like a Menchies downtown.

I was also thinking looking at those pictures...was anything ever suppose to go into that empty space in the parking deck across from the Art Museum? With how busy that intersection usually is I am surprised nothing has gone in there yet.

I believe these plans came out when this was just a concept. Since then the new plans show Town homes lining the east sign of Howard St. as well as behind Northside Lofts on Ridge St. I don't believe the new plans have them on the west side of Howard. Like I said before I have seen plans that outline the entire Cascade/Northside area and I'll try to find them. I would also like to see them start developing east of Northside down Furnace Street.
