I had this saved from a couple years ago. It shows the whole plan for Northside Lofts with what appears to be an amphitheater. I had seen other plans for Northside that includes the new park, but I'm not sure where I saved them.

I'm not too sure if there will be something too big where green leaf one stood. I do remember a talk of retail and some apartments, but i can't imagine them putting anything of that magnitude going in on the lot. I don't understand why they would want to cover up the front of the new residence hall as well. I remember seeing the plans for the university housing that is going in over there and there were no university plans to put anything directly on exchange. Whatever they put there i'm sure will be a project of UPA.

The Greenleaf Family Center has already been demolished and currently all that stands on that property are mounds of dirt, and equipment. This new development will go where the College Store, Wireless Express, Etc..are. Sounds like they are even demolishing Penn Station.

Gramarye: The third site was what Ted Curtis envisioned as a 7000 seat arena attached to the JAR and using the JAR as practice courts. I think it would be great for the Arena to go downtown. Aside from basketball games this could be used for so many other purposes other than sports. We could finally have a large enough space to hold larger concerts downtown. If UA really wants to help improve the look of downtown these plans should include something for the Polsky Parking deck. This is the largest/ugliest looking structure downtown and could be better utilized and renovated. I always imagined a more modern facade on the outside with a lighting theme that would better the aesthetics of the area. If they were to build an arena downtown across from Canal Park this would best serve parking, but I think it would be great to see storefront go in on S. High Street across from the arena.

I understand your response. I agree there needs to be more apartments...but apartments marketed towards young professionals. There needs to be a 50/50 mix of housing and businesses. Today young professionals would love to live in an urban setting, but an urban setting that they can sustain living without the use of a car. Instead of bars, planners should be more concerned about putting in places that sustain downtown living. I talked to a someone a few weeks ago who was in his late 20s.. A few months ago he moved to Akron from Washington DC without a car, due to him never needing one in DC. I asked him how he does the essential things like grab groceries, get haircuts, etc... He told me he actually rides his bike from Canal Place to Howe Ave to get a haircut, and rides five miles to grab groceries. The fact is people would love to live downtown but are unable to live the way they want to..(no car, close shops for walking, better public transit, and more affordable housing options.) For downtown to survive and grow away from becoming a college town they need to really focus on these areas and how they can all work together.

No it's not Primos. This on is going in just left of the peanut shop across from Lock 3. I believe that they had a sign up saying what it was, but all I remember is that it was another bar.

I haven't been able to find any dates, but my brother who lives in 22 exchange told me that he has seen people constantly going in there. Hopefully they will open in soon since it sounds like they are working on it already. I found out that they are also opening one up near Kent's campus. As far as the lack of foot traffic...there is a lack of foot traffic due to the lack of businesses. Akron needs to stop adding bars and night clubs in every single vacant space downtown. I got excited to see another business going in a few buildings down from the lockview, but after driving past it the other day I noticed it was just another bar.

I'm fairly optimistic that this shop will succeed. Their website showed that they recently started selling frozen yogurt and everyone knows how successful those have been recently. I'm not sure why Caroline Cupcakes went out of business, but I would have to take a guess and say that it's due to limited amount of product they would make for that shop. They would only make a certain amount for the day and once they sold out they would close. To me it seemed like an odd business model. The optimism I have is due to the fact thag Caroline's cupcakes would sell out almost everyday. I would love to go grab frozen yogurt after an aeros game, and I'm sure many others would enjoy the same.

Noticed a new tenant is going in where Caroline's Cupcakes use to be under 22 Exchange. Looks to be a late night cookie shop. I at first thought this was just some local venture but after researching online they looks to have several locations...some even in NYC. I have attached a link below showing one near Michigan State University. Yeah I remember them unveiling the plans back in June 2010. I remember talking to a few people in October 2011 about the progress of the hotel and they made it sound like as of then it was completely off the table. (Which surprised me) Seeing this article from a few months ago gives me new hope that they will start construction very soon. And from what I gathered from the article it sounded like a few more businesses were interested in filling the vacancy of Vegiterranean. Perhaps those businesses will move into the spaces next to DBA.

I don't think this article was ever posted on here, but I noticed towards the end they mention the Marriott Courtyard that was suppose to go in next to Northside Lofts. The article says that they should be breaking ground for the new hotel in a few months. This article is from December of last year. Does anyone have an update on the new hotel? This is the only plan that I have seen of the future building for the College of Education. I have never seen actual building renderings though.

Here are a couple photos I took while in Akron today. The first one is the new Pizza Hut off E. Market, and the second one is where the Fred Martin dealership use to stand. I also drove by the future site of 401 Lofts and it looks like they are about to start work on the foundation of the building. When the sun decides to come back out I will go out and take more photos of the progress.

I heard a rumor that they were suppose to be knocking down a building need the Cotter building. That would be great if it were to follow through with that plan. The United Commerce Center design looks great as well. I wonder how old these designs are...

I was downtown yesterday and was able to get some good shots of the new Mill St. bridge. Rumor has it that they hope to have the bridge complete enough for people to drive on it before school starts. Their is still a lot of work that needs to be done on the walls of the bridge.

Northside and the one they were excepting proposals for between the museum and convention center.

I'm curious if this effects the other two proposed hotel sites at all. The thought of Akron having three brand hotels is awesome and hopefully more conventions and events will come downtown due to it.

Haha don't let the name of the place fool you. I talked to one of the workers renovating it and he said a guy actually owns and started the place, so I have no idea. I really wish a bagel shop would open around that area. Every time I go to NYC there is always a bagel shop I stop in to get a bagel and coffee, before jumping on the subway. That would be perfect that side of town.
