  1. ^Thats a great idea! I think that with the right design that is definitely a plausible design.
  2. Does anyone know when they are suppose to be breaking ground for the new Marriott in Northside?

If you're looking for one just for random moments and construction scenes I would say any point and shoot should do the trick. I preferably go for Canons just because I'm more use to the settings and software, plus they're by far the best quality I've seen. A good point at shoot would be any of the canon powershots.

Received an e-mail this morning from Dave Lieberth who is Chief of Staff of the Deputy Mayor Administration. "The City has a continuing agreement with Main Street Partners LLC to re-develop the 5 buildings adjacent to the Civic Theatre and the Landmark Building. No one has been financing such retail-based projects for the last two years, and the developers continue to search for a mechanism to fund the $15 million development. We believe it will become a reality once the credit markets open up."
  5. Making stuff up?! hahaha if you would have read my last post Tom I never said anything about UA officials not wanting a large number of people directly on campus. Also...how is near the highway, by the stadium close to the Student Union? Look on a map and where the arena could potentially be downtown is almost the exact distance away from the union as it would be if it were built near the highway as you said. Listen, I'm not going to keep speculating where or where not this is going to be built. I have my opinion where they should build it, and you have yours. What makes my opinion flawed and your's right?
  6. Tom what are your last two paragraphs about? Who is making up things and pretending to UA sources? First off, if they build this "on campus" its not even going to be anywhere near the student union or commons, so unless people park downtown and walk through campus to get there I doubt many will venture off onto campus. You would have a greater percentage of people spending money at restaurants and shops downtown if you force them to be down there. A lot of people just want to see the show and go home especially if they're not parked near downtown. The University is already doing really well, so why not help out the city? . Plus the only time the stadium even got close to having 30,000 in attendance was the first couple games played there.
  7. I don't think they should build it on-campus. As much as I would love to see the university grow I am also an Akron citizen and think that downtown would benefit so much more from it if they built it downtown. Imagine 10,000 people walking out of a major concert at the arena and dispersing to nearby restaurants and shops. It would create a more vibrant downtown with more foot traffic, businesses would probably be more interested in coming downtown. Are they still even planning on doing the Greek Village though? I remember looking at the University in high school and seeing plans for this and that was back in 05!

This may be why nothing has happened as well..

I didn't realize thats whats holding up the lock 4/main project. I'm glad they were able to finish the new walkarounds down on lock 4. It will be much nicer once restaurants and shops go in along there. Should give new life to the center of the city, especially if the plans for Cascade Plaza goes through.

Well these plans are specifically for Lock 3. The developer is the one who plans on redeveloping Lock 4 area as well. There is a separate company that has plans for the cascade plaza. I might e-mail them as well and try and get the scoop. If you can tell I don't like to speculate.. :)

Well... the day I found this picture I e-mailed the city and the developer to get more info on what progress if any was being made. The developer got back to me today and responded with this... "Due to the economic downturn and the tightness of the financial markets the project has been DELAYED. All parties are working on a strategy to move the project forward, unfortunately I cannot give you a specific date. We have not scratched the project and will keep working to bring the project to fruition". I look forward to seeing this in the future. :)

Great news! I keep seeing the coming soon sign on Main St with plans but haven't seen much activity. I read the article talking about the grant I just didn't realize when they might begin. Wish they would pick up the pace!

I guess there is just a lot I don't understand...lol This is why I am studying engineering :)

Its just so hard to believe that nobody can get financing. I realize the economy went south, but it seems like other cities I look at are atleast coming up with a game plan for the economy turns around. look at dayton for example. I go to their downtown partnership site and they have a plan to make some "Tech Town" and have plan to put build new buildings downtown. Cleveland it seems is the same way. I know not every project is going to go through but it seems like no good projects go through for akron.

Why do they keep scrapping all of these plans? As much as I love Akron I'm really started to get sick of everything being half-a$$ed or quit on. The only good construction that ever happens is either outside the city or at the university. I've seen that Future Apex building sign off West Market for awhile now and nothing has been constructed. The plans make it look like an awesome building, but it seems like nothing will ever get complete.

Yeah thats what I figured. I really wish this would eventually go in though. I feel like most of Lock 3 and the land behind the canal is a waste of space and too open. It would be nice to see businesses getting filled into that area around lock 3, and downtown becoming more dense with buildings and such. This design could really help to utilize the canal more and make it a nice focus of downtown. Indianapolis has done a great job of this, I see no reason Akron couldn't do the same.
  17. I have looked all over the web for renderings but haven't found anything. I'm curious if the Cathedral would have anything in regards to the design. Anyone think it will EVER be completed?
  18. Oops! Didn't read the first article. It says that they stopped construction after 22 days at a height of 494ft. I think the least someone could do is paint it or something instead of making it look like some useless tower of concrete.

haha I think the color is off. I highly doubt they would build a pink building. It's probably just the way the brick texture on whatever program they used comes out.
  20. I found plans today on the website of Terremarkpartners.com that show a new Main St./ Lock 3 Re-development. Here is one of the pictures I found of what it may look like. In order to get a better idea of how this is oriented; The white thing in the middle is the stage at Lock 3 and you can see the canal directly behind it. The two buildings in the back would be on Main St. and stand where the current hut shops are located. The closer buildings would be on the crappy parking lot between Canal Place and The Civic Theater. Does anyone have any additional information on this?
  21. I read an article somewhere that said the height of the tower is currently 750ft.
  22. I really wish they would finish this tower. Does anyone know if there are original plans out there to show what it would have looked like if completed?
  23. I really hope those plans become a reality! I looked at Terre Mark Partners website today and the status of the project was "Planning and predevelopement. The only thing I hate about this design is the color. I feel like the only buildings that should be pink are the ones in Florida. I really hate to see renders like these and not see them go through. It is the biggest tease ever! I've seen renders for the aquarium, a new Plaza near PNC Tower and First Merit, a new arena, and the lock 4 devolopement, but I feel like I'm going to be dead before I see any of this, or it wont even happen at all.
  24. Here are some photos I took yesterday of the new Bridgestone Tech Facility they are building off of South Main St. Looking good!
  25. I think attendance could possibly be higher this year. With the Syracuse game, I'm sure there will be a lot of people in attendance for that game in addition to it being the home opener. I am president of an organization at the University and the other day in a meeting the Athletic Department was talking to us about a new incentive program for students to try and get them to attend more games. The program is called "ROO-wards", and the way it works is every sport (even rifle, CC, tennis, golf) is given a point value. If you get up to a certain amount of points at the end of the year you receive prizes. I know the first place prize is two airline tickets, 2nd is a $500 gift card to Bestbuy. Though this program only applies to anyone with a valid zipcard, I do think it may help with sports attendance this year. Hopefully it will help pack the JAR and we can get that new arena!
