  1. I wouldn't either. I like having my own house where I am free to do what the hell I want, even if it is hang around outside, barbecue and howl at the moon till the wee hours. Don't need a chaperone.
  2. March 9th, 2013 will be "Clifton Fest" on Stratford. Check it out on facebook. Thanks for the link!
  3. ROFL! I would love to see that happen up on McMillan. They used to have Cinco De Stratford around here. That is until a riot broke out.
  4. Oh, there certainly will always be a market for student housing, and the landlords who offer reasonably priced, newly upgraded housing will get the business. My point is there will be less students in the area as they add all this new housing closer to campus. Large developers are taking advantage of a lack of new housing in the area. I don't like the newer developments, because many of them are cheaply built and unsightly, but they correctly target the market. As for price, I can tell you from being a home-owner in CUF, and knowing many of the landlords in CUF, that many of them have the attitude towards all the new developments in the area that "We let them determine what we can charge students for our buildings." So if the new apartments are priced at $600.00, then landlords in the area will price theirs at $575.00. (bogus prices used to illustrate a point) Arrogant? Maybe. Short sighted? Perhaps. The way it is? Definitely. I'm not talking every landlord. Just several of the major players I know. There will always be slum lords who rent party houses to students who do not want new apartments, with all their rules an such. My 2 cents anyway.
  5. And this is exactly what will likely happen. Even over the years, CUF has seen students shift to living closer to campus. Many landlords shifted to Section 8 in the past when this happened. There are too many slum lords around here to compete with new apartments close to campus, where students are less likely to be robbed.
  6. Just the bar, or Lenhardt's as well? AFAIK, Lenhardt's
  7. Yep, I have to agree, though I don't think I can blame Montgomery County for doing so.
  8. Can we get back to Austin Landing at some point? Start a Mason thread or something.
  9. Does anyone know how much the owners of Christy's are asking for the buildings?
  10. Just got confirmation that Christy's is still planning to reopen Friday, as stated above.
  11. All we really have around here is Adriatico's for a selection of craft brews. Otherwise, it's slim pickings. Murphy's sucks for beer selection and rude, crappy owners and staff. Bearcat Cafe is ok, but not my cup of tea. Adriatico's is hardly a bar. I agree and do my outings downtown and OTR.
  12. I'll know soon enough, and when I do I will post up the info.
  13. Really? I'm not seeing the kind of concentrated activity north of Liberty that I see south of it. Or am I not looking in the right places? North of Liberty is slowly seeing development, but it's nothing compared to what 3CDC is doing.
  14. Well, if someone here is interested in attending, here's the info:
  15. Expect nothing less from the enquirer.
  16. Well, there's certainly no shortage of restaurants in the area. I don't mind fast food joints disappearing in favor better options. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying I want people to not be downtown, I'm just taking it in context. Downtown Cincy is very happening and only getting better. So in spite of the loss, downtown is making a lot of progress in the right direction. The glut in office space needs to be converted to residential to some degree. I hope that trend continues.
  17. Well, with all the architectural mediocrity in the area, great would stand out like a sore thumb. :drunk:
  18. I'm with you 100%. I live in the area and absolutely hated the field that used to be there. I can't wait for spring when the retail starts opening. And this development makes the entire area come alive. Plus the businesses that will open there, suburban in nature, will definitely stand out as an attraction to college kids and improve the entire McMillan / Calhoun corridor.
  19. I think this quote from the article says it all: I think it is a good evolution too. Why shouldn't downtown Cincy be a high end destination with high end amenities, housing, and employment?
  20. Sorely needed in terms of improving access and quality of life for nearby residents. Having lived in Dayton, and having dealt with congestion in the area, to me it makes sense. Is it critical? Not at all. On a speculative side note, I wouldn't be surprised if Lexus Nexus had influence on things, since their employees benefit from it as well. I would suggest the businesses and people living there relocate near an existing highway exit, if that's something they require. The state is not obligated to provide them with such amenities. I see this as a form of entitlement spending which is a drain on the region on several fronts. State investment in a business and residential boom in this area only drains from nearby business and residential areas, while increasing the amount of infrastructure that must be maintained over time. It subsidizes and rewards antisocial lifestyle and business decisions. Brill is right on some of these topics, though Mason is just as guilty. You can see why someone from Mason would be especially threatened by state subsidies in an area like this. Just about anything drawing people to Mason could be cloned in this area, creating competition and vacancies and decreasing land values in Mason. I can't really say I agree with the development process and I definitely can't stand stuffy, boring suburbs. So, I can't really say I disagree with you. Even if no development was actually at the interchange, I still welcome the extra access. I think that's about it for me. And the irony of kjbrill's situation and POV is not lost on me either.
  21. I doubt you will get Lowes or Home Depot, since they are both right up the street. Meijer perhaps. Target is also close by.

  23. It'll fill up, no doubt. But this is how development has happened for years. Access, retail/office space, tract homes nearby, etc. Nothing new to see here. It's very underwhelming though. I'm with RockyMountainHigh on this one. But the interchange was sorely needed, both for Springboro and Miamisburg.

    Gotcha.
