Cleveland Cavs Discussion
That'd be totally relevant if they were at all similar players. Unfortunately, they are complete opposites. This was a terrible reach and a selection the Cavs are going to regret.

NBA: General News & Discussion
Green is an RFA this year though and while he's not good, some team will probably offer him a terrible contract forcing Boston to either match or let him go. If they are willing to pay Green, they should've been willing to pay Perk as Green will probably cost more to re-sign. If they aren't going to pay Green, then this trade would be even worse as it'd be swapping Green and Perk for one run at a title this year.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Beans is awful, so glad he's not coming to Cleveland. This deadline has been insane, by far the most exciting one ever. Presti just raped Boston and Morey is pulling off some impressive moves for the Rockets too.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
So happy with this trade. Mo is weakminded, injury prone, and has a decent chunk of change left on his contract. For the Cavs to turn that into a top 10 pick, albeit in a weak draft, is excellent. Not only that, but Baron is a guy who only cares when he's on a winning team. The Cavs are awful so he won't care at all next year.....which results in another top 4 pick for Cleveland! Rebuilds are fun. Maybe the Basketball Gods will be on the Cavs side this summer resulting in them winning the lottery and the Clips pick falling at #2 or #3. Or the Clips win the lottery and the Cavs get 2, 3 or 4. Either would be nice haha. Now they just have to move Parker for hopefully another pick.

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
Gilbert continues to invest in Cleveland  Dan Gilbert to bring entrepreneurship boot camp to Cleveland CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Dan Gilbert, the majority owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, announced today that he will bring a non-profit entrepreneurship boot camp called Bizdom U to downtown Cleveland next year. Gilbert made the announcement while accepting the 2010 Ruth Ratner Miller Award from the Downtown Cleveland Alliance at the group's annual awards luncheon. The award recognizes people who have made major achievements in advancing and enhancing the center city. Bizdom U is a four-month to six-month training program in subjects including marketing, sales and finance. During the training process, the entrepreneurs develop plans for businesses that must be located within the urban core. Gilbert founded the program in Detroit in 2007 and plans to open up the first Cleveland boot camp to as many as 20 entrepreneurs in 2011. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2010/10/dan_gilbert_to_bring_entrepren.html

Cleveland: Keeping its entertainment districts safe & vibrant
Make the "premier nightclub district" (which doesn't even have great clubs in the first place) more family friendly? How does that make sense? Families aren't going to be out at 9PM or later and if you want to add an ice cream shop or amusement park ride (wtf?), it should be done elsewhere in Cleveland, not in an area where people go to party.

Franchise Re-location
Less teams doesn't mean less nationally televised games. It could actually be better for the networks because there will be more slots open for teams that draw more viewers.

What exactly is going on with the Tudor Arms project? Every time I drive down Carnegie it looks the same. Are they still securing funding? It was mentioned in the comment section for the article about the Courtyard. The reporter said:

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
LMN Architects unveil detailed concept for the Cleveland Medical Mart It's too soon to declare the initial designs for the new Cleveland Medical Mart a success. But the latest renderings of the project, for which MMPI Inc. of Chicago wants to break ground by Jan. 1, are highly encouraging. Among other things, they show a building with facades of glass and precast concrete panels arranged in lyrical geometric patterns that uncannily and unintentionally echo the Op Art paintings of the internationally renowned Cleveland artist Julian Stanczak. The building's overall shape and scale would enable it to fit nicely with its early 20th century neoclassical neighbors around the Mall in the city's Group Plan district, including Public Auditorium, Cleveland City Hall, the Cleveland Public Library and the Cuyahoga County Courthouse. But the spirited facades, which create a pixelated pattern inspired by and made possible by computer technology, would mark the building as something special and unique in Cleveland. http://blog.cleveland.com/architecture/2010/10/post_1.html

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
Developers lined up to build 150-room hotel in University Circle CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A Chagrin Falls developer and a North Carolina hotel manager have signed on to build a $27 million hotel in University Circle, across the street from University Hospitals's new cancer center. Snavely Development Co. and Concord Hospitality Enterprises Co. plan a 150-room, eight-story hotel off Cornell Road, behind a retail strip that runs along Euclid Avenue. The brand of hotel has not been announced. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2010/10/developers_lined_up_to_build_1.html

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Here is the agreement that MMPI and the county spelled out months ago. In it is says that after the initial agreement on the price, MMPI will be the construction manager and the county will fund construction up to that amount. ANY COST OVERRUNS ARE THE RESPONSIBILITYOF MMPI! http://bocc.cuyahogacounty.us/pdf_bocc/en-US/MedMartMOU.pdf Sadly most people who bash the project don't even know this. fwiw, an article was posted this morning about the Cuyahoga County executive candidates responses to the price hike: http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2010/09/cuyahoga_county_executive_cand.html

Cleveland: Keeping its entertainment districts safe & vibrant
Damn! I was planning on having dinner at Crop during my visit to Cleveland in two weeks ("next month"). Where are they relocating to? Actually, you'll be able to go to the current location. They are keeping the WHD location open through October then moving at the start of November. The new location is at West 25th & Lorain though, right across from the West Side Market.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Max, actually. His credibility is the same as W&G's though. I think the ESPN-Miami thing may only last until LBJ decides to leave (if he does), but I'd be very surprised if Windy didn't continue to work with ESPN in some capacity afterward. It's obvious to anyone who follows basketball that he's one of the best doing it and he'd eventually end up with ESPN. LeBron forming a superteam seemed to have bumped that date up quite a bit due to Windy's close ties to LeBron. Still, I definitely can't hate on him. No reason to screw around here while the team is going through a rough stage if other, better opportunities present themselves. Writers don't make millions like the players do, so career advancement is quite important.

Cleveland: Keeping its entertainment districts safe & vibrant
Why should any stock be put into Carey's opinion? He tried to open a restaurant and failed, so bitterness towards the successful restaurants in the area is not very surprising. Him saying it's now solely a nightclub scene does not mean much. To be honest, he's lucky he's even allowed to keep his club open (and no, not because of the demographics; because of the lease issues). If the current problems are solved, keeping the restaurant scene alive until the CC/MM/casino open is not at all out of the question IMO.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Where did you hear this "rumor"? An insider (who has broken news plenty of times before) on realcavsfans. It's obviously logical too. Despite having a lot of talking heads that provide absolutely no insight into their respective sports, ESPN is pinnacle of sports journalism and Windy deserves to be there as much as anyone. It's only a matter of time, and it seems it's going to be sooner rather than later.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Optimism went out the window when I saw the schedule and then proceeded to see them lose to the damn Bucs  I do agree, this team is heading in the right direction for the most part and I'm glad Holmgren is at the helm. Still, rebuilding is always rough, especially in the early stages. It doesn't help that the Indians and Cavs are going through rebuilds too. Oh well, I hope they at least upset a team or two this year. Beating a team from their division while that team is in the middle of the playoff race would be nice.

If that's how you feel, then by all means lobby your Assemblyman to ban that type of music in public clubs. I have never heard such disdain for the preferences of others as I have in this thread. I hope you don't style yourself open-minded after making this kind of statement: in this country, if we don't like certain types of expression, we are free to avoid them. None of us should abide the likening another's speech, music or expression to more serious crimes. Rap music is not rat food and catcalling is not rape. We must draw reasonable boundaries as to where our rights end and where others' begin--in this country, one has no reasonable expectation of privacy when words have been spoken; the balancing factor is that no one may similarly expect not to be offended by anyone's expression. I'm going to say this again: why is it such a hard concept for people to simply accept others' preferences and live and let live? If you are offended by the debauchery of West 6th Street, you have two options: (1) buy property there and try to make a concerted change, or (2) avoid exposing yourself to that atmosphere. The third option, to complain and clamor about rude people until the police are politically pressured to club and tazer people until no one shows up anymore, is not a legitimate option in my book. Because certain "preferences" are extremely rude and not how a mature human being should act? Look, you may not be offended by catcalls or excessive swearing or intimidation, but people, particularly women, evidently are. And it's causing those who live there to leave (or at least consider leaving) and people who go there for other clubs, restaurants, and the like to just not go to the area as much, if at all. With fewer paying customers (you know, the people who actually help the area and don't screw around in the street), businesses look to leave and developers avoid the area. Do you want that? I certainly do not. Especially with the casino on the horizon and the prospect of having the WHD, casino, East 4th, and Quicken Loans Arena/Progressive Field all along the same stretch of downtown. There is great potential there and losing one of those major attractions would be significant. I understand accepting others preferences. That's fine as long as their preferences are within reason. For example, if someone wants to practice a different religion than I do, fine, great for them. If they want to listen to a different type of music, fine. And so on. But if they want to act like little kids with absolutely no respect for the people around them....then no, I won't stand for that and I do not think others should be expected to either. My stance towards hip-hop clubs is not to the same extent as EC's, but you just can't ignore the crowds that hip-hop clubs attract. Are the people inside the hip-hop club OK? For the most part, yes. And if not, the security inside can handle it. But those clubs attract the younger, less mature demographic too. That's a problem. Would closing Lust fix the problems in the area? I'd say it would fix most. But that's not necessary if other steps are taken. What's so wrong about getting the underage crowd out of the area? That'd result in less catcalling, less intimidation, less lack of respect, and less problems overall. Now the area is appealing to outsiders and residents alike again.....AND it still has a hip-hop club for those who enjoy that music. Is that not a fair solution?

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Rumor has it that Windy is leaving for ESPN and he will likely be based in Miami. Considering he's one of the best beat writers in the league it'd be pretty disappointing to see him go...especially there.
