Afghan Whigs have been on the nice roll since getting back together. Do To The Beast was good and In Spades is even better. I was surprise to hear the full album on Youtube. I guess this is how kids listen to albums (if they even listen to full albums). Fire up the app, turn up the jams on their tinny smartphone speakers. Rock out.

That’s creative. I've never heard of a college owning a professional sports team. Oh wait, how could I forget that just north of here, a college owns a semi-pro football team, tOSU. And it gets better, even further north a city built a stadium for a complete rank amateur football club. What a crazy state we live in. **double rim-shot**

I would think FCC getting CPS to selling their football stadium would be a bigger obstacle. In the Business Courier story, FCC supposedly will allow high schools to used the new stadium for events. Considering it would be a grass field that would be suprising.

It's official: FC Cincinnati moves forward on stadium plan Berding said the form of public money hasn’t been determined yet but club officials have had a lot of conversations with public officials. He sees an opportunity in using existing economic development tools. Public financing could be used for infrastructure or parking-related costs, he said. The club wants to finalize financing and site selection by summer, Berding said. “However, we have an MLS expansion bid with 12 cities. Of those 12 cities, we’re the smallest market. The feeling is we will not win a bid to get one of those expansion franchises without our own stadium. Would we win a bid to bring MLS to Cincinnati? No, we would not.” "...And MLS wants teams to own their stadium and control all of its revenue streams. That wouldn’t be the case at Paul Brown Stadium. “We’d be looking for something that’s not there,” Berding said. http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2017/05/25/its-official-fc-cincinnati-moves-forward-on.html

I'd like to see the West End too. The Enquirer quotes Berding, "...Our prospective stadium finance plan is being developed," Berding said. "Our effort to land an MLS franchise for Cincinnati starts with $250 million in private investment and would not include a new tax increase as speculated today at the Hamilton County commission meeting."
  6. No offense, but really that's lipstick on pig. I thought the pedestrian bridge with neon lighting was a waste of city resources. Didn't Canley even have a ribbon cutting for it. Has the city even talked to Nederlander Entertainment and Anschutz Entertainment Group. AEG is a multi-billion $ entertainment company that owns and operates arenas throughout the world. I would like to know what AEG is expecting, but they could easily upgrade or replace it themselves.
  7. ^what!??! One of my faves. Tom Waits, not Kesha.

Brockmire on IFC is pretty good. Hank Azaria plays a washed up baseball announcer. Amanda Peet, as a minor league team owner, is surprisingly funny. Not for the easily offended. I don't have IFC but I was able to watch via the AMC app.
  9. No, I think Cincinnati would be dropped altogether if US Bank isn't upgraded. It definitely puts a lot of people in an interesting position. It could affect the Major's race. An outdated area hurts the city. Not just this tournament but any future events. Somewhat related, the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn is kicking out their NHL team in a year or so. Owners of that area have said they can make more money hosting other events instead of a professional hockey team. That's amazing to me. All you hear is the need for a regular tenet.

Where do our taxes go. This new website tells all, ..."The database is perhaps the first nonpartisan effort to create a fully integrated look at revenue and spending across federal, state and local governments." Steve Ballmer Serves Up a Fascinating Data Trove In an age of fake news and questions about how politicians and others manipulate data to fit their biases, Mr. Ballmer’s project may serve as a powerful antidote. “How many people work for government in the United States?” he asked, with the excitement of a child showing off a new toy, before displaying the answer. “Almost 24 million. Would you have guessed that?” “Well, let’s look at that. People who work in schools, higher ed, public institutions of education — they are government employees.” And they represent almost half of the 24 million, his data shows. Suddenly, he explained, the faceless bureaucrats who are often pilloried as symbols of government waste start to look like the people in our neighborhood whom we’re very glad to have. At one point, as he showed me the value of certain tax deductions and blurted out, “If you look at these tax deductions for employer-provided health or for state and local taxes or mortgage-interest deductions, they’re really subsidies to the affluent, which I guess I hadn’t thought about them.” https://www.usafacts.org https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/17/business/dealbook/steve-ballmer-serves-up-a-fascinating-data-trove.html
  11. Trump Budget: Amtrak's long-distance train routes could get the ax The proposal, which Congress has not take up yet, would do away with money for all 15 long-distance passenger rail routes, including the Lake Shore Limited that stops here each day. But 23 states now are served only with long-distance trains would have no passenger rail under the Trump administration proposal. It would become impossible to travel via train to the West Coast, the South or the nation's midsection, eradicating the concept of a national rail system. https://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/nation-now/2017/04/12/long-distance-train-service-endangered/100395912/
  12. And Mike Brown will pocket $50m once all these teams are done moving. PBS is nearly 17 yrs old, it will be interesting to hear what their demand for improvements will cost.
  13. ^Interesting. As long as they name the lab CSI Cincinnati and use lots of neon lighting.
  14. When the owner of the hotel isn't even involved, the idea seems like a reach. Is Vandercar Holdings (king of strip malls) considering acquiring the hotel.

^ha. that made think of an article that mentioned a fart can be the size of a soda can. Food for thought. I'm sure there's a gif of that floating around too.

I can't imagine Spinney Field being consider. It literally stinks, like all the time, thanks to MSD. Bengals player routinely complained about the air quality.

WNKU has been sold and will officially disappear. Replaced by some religious station. Sad. The last of the radio stations I listened to. Radio is dead. I'll stick with my (massive; not trying to gloat, honest) iTunes library and some internet stations. Still haven't jump into any of the music streaming services.
  18. UC basketball announced they will play their 2017-18 season in KENTUCKY while the Shoe is being upgraded. How terrible is US Bank Arena when they can't get UC to play there. I think this arena is a bigger albatross than the Millennium Hotel for DT.
  19. Nice. All the other multifamily projects on his site have been approved or built. Someones got to know something.
  20. I'd like to embed tweets on UO. I see that on various sites. It would be good to keep track of all of Trump's lies.
  21. Demolition has now been approved. Shame.

^The practice fields next to the stadium. I know some think those fields are an incredible waste, but I can't picture office or residential there. Interesting if a soccer stadium could fit. What about further west in Queensgate. A lot of land has been cleared over the years. Keep in mind, if UC ever gets an invite(seems far fetch now) to a big 5 conf. they would be obligated to expand Nippert. More suites plus 10K seats increase. Texas isn't going to play UC in a 40K stadium. Hell, I think some high schools in Texas seat more than Nippert. Would FCC still seem like a good fit at Nippert. I'll project even further. The Bengals sent a letter to Hamilton County a year or two ago wanting to discussed improvements to PBS. I haven't heard an update since but don't be surprise if there's a request for 100m or two for "improvements". I think their lease expires in 2026 and as we all know is consider one of the worst stadium deals ever. Negotiations would start well before then, if FCC could hang in for 6-8 years there may be an opening.
  23. The wife of Mitch McConnell? Yeah, no pay-to-play there.

^^Those are the only pics I could find. There does seem to be an option for premium field-level seating.

The Nipper redesign is a go. Soon after Bearcats (god awful) season is over.
