  2. At the risk of crossing the big red box, this was pulled from an Enquirer Op-Ed . . . "But to their credit, the Rock Ventures LLC group, which will back the Cincinnati and Cleveland casinos, aims to design its facilities to connect with the neighborhood. The backers pledge not to build on-site hotels to keep customers "captive," but to cooperate with downtown hotels, restaurants and other businesses. They're willing to discuss a link to the Broadway Commons casino from a proposed downtown streetcar line, should that project get under way." http://nky.cincinnati.com/article/AB/20090919/EDIT01/909200348/-1/today/A+casino+bid+that+s+good+for+Ohio Talk is cheap, but if the owners are held to these pledges. It sounds like the perfect set up. Make sure parking is behind the casino and they don't build any type of theater to compete with Music Hall, Taft, Emery, etc and the review board keeps on them for a quality design, bring on the Star Wars penny slots.

  7. Apple and the Bengals - two organizations on the cutting edge. Jordan Palmer helps players develop iPhone apps By Joe Kay • The Associated Press • August 22, 2009 Bengals backup quarterback Jordan Palmer spent the offseason working on a business venture with two California friends. Their company develops individualized iPhone applications for athletes, allowing them to connect with fans on the go. They rolled out one for Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez, and expect to have Ochocinco's app approved by Apple and launched before the season starts. "I'm a big advocate of the iPhone," Jordan Palmer said. "I'm all about it. I'm always reading about it and pushing its capabilities and seeing what's coming out next. We looked at the business and what's going on with the applications and the growth. The growth is through the roof. http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20090822/BIZ/908220351/1055/NEWS/Palmer+finds+iPhone+niche

Beautiful. I can strongly recommend Yosemite and the National Parks in Southern Utah(Badlands, Arches, etc). I haven't done Yellowstone, but that's next on my list. Not quite at the level of the other National Parks, but Muir Woods is very nice. You'll be tree-hugging redwoods in no time. http://www.nps.gov/muwo/
  16. 36 Hours in Cincinnati By KASSIE BRACKEN Published: July 19, 2009 WITH the quiet momentum of a work in progress, Cincinnati is finding an artsy swagger, infused with a casual combination of Midwest and Southern charm. The city center, for decades rich with cultural and performing arts venues, now offers a renovated Fountain Square area and a gleaming new baseball stadium with views of the Ohio River. Efforts to transcend the damage from several days of race riots in 2001, which nearly decimated the city’s Over-the-Rhine district, are slowly progressing. Transformations are taking place in surrounding areas — as well as across the river in the neighboring Kentucky cities of Newport and Covington — with their cool music venues, funky shopping outlets and smart culinary options. http://travel.nytimes.com/2009/07/19/travel/19hour.html

  20. Nice to see paleontologists have a sense of humor. Scientists tour Creation Museum By Cliff Peale • [email protected] • June 24, 2009 PETERSBURG – “Praise God,” the official at the Creation Museum told the tour group, “we are excited to have you here.” For the 80 paleontologists, taking a break from their convention at the University of Cincinnati to tour the museum, some were skeptical, some were amused, some were offended. “I think it’s a very professional outfit and they put on a good show,” said Jason Rosenhouse, a math professor at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va., and manager of a blog on evolution. “If you can sort of suspend disbelief, you can see why people get caught up in it. “I hate the fact that this exists,” he added. “But given that it exists, I can see why people would find it compelling.” To read more: http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090624/NEWS01/306240055
  21. Coal on the losing end for once. Regulations work! February 2, 2009, 5:26 pm Utility Gives Up on Coal, Pursues Wind Instead By Leslie Kaufman Legislation to curb carbon emissions is still far from a done deal, but apparently it seems real enough that at least one utility is calling it quits on its efforts to build a coal-fired power plant. A rural electric cooperative in southern Montana says it will stop pushing for development of the Highwood Generating Station, a controversial proposed plant near Great Falls, and instead turn to developing wind energy. http://greeninc.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/02/02/utility-gives-up-on-coal-pursues-wind-instead/?scp=1&sq=wind%20instead%20of%20coal&st=cse

  23. —Cincinnati East Enders Air Concerns Over Hi-Speed Rail Plan Reported by: Tom McKee, Email: [email protected] Photographed By: Scott Wegener, Last Update: 8:53 pm East End community leaders and residents sent a strong message to Cincinnati leaders Tuesday. They like the idea for 3-C "Fresh Start" high-speed rail service connecting Cincinnati with Columbus and Cleveland, however, they don’t want a temporary station built along Riverside Drive between the Boathouse and Theodore Berry Park. "This is not a case of NIMBY – Not In My Back Yard," said Lou Seiler, of the East End Area Council, as he spoke before Cincinnati City Council’s Economic Development Committee. "It’s a question for me of trying to get things right for once in our city." http://www.wcpo.com/news/local/story/East-Enders-Air-Concerns-Over-Hi-Speed-Rail-Plan/-eqIM9zg4E2QcRxjU1Mq3w.cspx

  25. Strickland asking for $400 million for passenger rail Posted by mrulon at 6/9/2009 11:35 AM EDT Gov. Ted Strickland is in Washington today to lobby the Obama administration for $400 million in federal stimulus money to build the proposed high-speed passenger rail service between Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland. "Ohio and those cities represent the most densely populated part of the country that is devoid of passenger rail service," Strickland said, calling that fact "intolerable." http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?Category=blog02&plckController=Blog&plckScript=blogScript&plckElementId=blogDest&plckBlogPage=BlogViewPost&plckPostId=Blog%3aec38bb2b-982e-46ba-819a-da01a547e8eaPost%3a5d65ea40-8f7f-46ad-be9e-6e2c5003ea68&sid=sitelife.cincinnati.com
