Phoenix - Light Rail on Opening Day
My last full day in the Arizona was spent enjoying Phoenix's new light rail system. The Grand Opening was Dec 27-28, 20008. The lines were long, the trains were packed, and everyone had a smile on their face. There was a lot of buzz. Phoenix certainly has a few desolate places DT (last few stops in PHX before Tempe), so it will be interesting to see how these areas develop. I'll be back in March for what I would think will be a more route ride experience. Here's some pics and short video clips: Green means go. Dos & Don’ts About five trains went by before we could board. People were very nice, but no one was squeezing onto this one. It was standing room only for our entire ride. We saw several new developments, but there were also plenty of empty lots. Arriving Leaving Ten minutes quickly became 20+ minutes . . . Moving

2-day visit to Cincy, what to do?
Union Terminal, is what, 5-10 minutes away? You don't even have to do any of the museums. Just walk in the front door and be amazed. I still ooh and aah whenever I walk in there. I believe it's open except on x-mas day. http://www.cincymuseum.org/

Wilmington: General Business & Economic News
I know a co-worker's wife that works at CVG DHL. I see what she knows. It would be ironic if they move people back. The warehouse is huge and empty. I walked through it when the Airbus 380 pay us a visit last year.

Favorite Music At The Moment?
Steven Wilson, Insurgentes. First solo album. The man's musical output is unreal. One of the few artists I still buy cds from. Kings of Leon, Only by the Night. Though their third album, Because of the the Times, is still my fave. G 'n R, Chinese Democracy. No Appetite, but not bad. which leads me to another guilty pleasure . . . AC/DC, Black Ice. If they can't get us out of the recession, no one can. I've also been on a Tom Waits and Miles Davis binge.

Cincinnati: City Budget and Spending News & Discussion
I forget how this works. But full Council has to vote on these proposals, right? I question putting so much $$ into Clifton Cultural Arts Center. Cincinnati council submits budget proposals Business Courier of Cincinnati - by Dan Monk Senior Staff Reporter Finance Committee Chairman John Cranley proposed eliminating $60 million in streetcar funding so the money can be “reprogrammed for other purposes,” including $25 million for the Central Riverfront Park that’s being built in conjunction with the Banks project and $25 million for repaving of city streets. Councilman Chris Monzel proposed eliminating $11 million in funding for streetcars in 2009. He offered no alternate plans for the money. The proposals come as council works to pass a two-year budget for 2009 and 2010. Both Monzel and Cranley previously voted in favor of a streetcar system, authorizing the city manager to begin raising money for the project in April. They were the only members of council to identify streetcar cuts in budget proposals submitted late last week. Controversy, conversation rule on Fox's BCS selection show Instead of using on-site reporters, Fox this year will use analysts Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer — "the only humans who've coached NCAA and Super Bowl winners," says Fox producer Bill Richards — to question BCS coaches directly from the studio. (But one reporter, Thom Brennaman, will be on-site in Cincinnati to report on the BCS-bound Bearcats.) Says Richards: "We were kind of wasting them just having them discuss things between themselves." Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
This may be old news, but I went to Union Terminal today and the lower level has some sharp exhibits including a huge model of the urban core circa 1800s. There was also a full size streetcar that I didn't know was there. I guess I haven't been in the basement for some time. You may enjoy these shots. How long would this interior last if used today.

What Obama may mean for Cities
Yes, in this moment in time we must do all we can to protect the riches 2% of the population. And I'm sure they all created tons jobs. None of them sit on their fat asses collecting their capital gains income each year. Obama will get to them shortly, but I've heard the top 2% won't have stock pile can goods just yet. Obama will simply let the cuts expire in 2011. Cuts that should of never been made when your "fighin terrorism".

Cincinnati Park System
The Mayor and Cincinnati delegation of 50+ people were in China for a park dedication of our sister city, Liuzhou. Cincy's park board help create the park including . . . . . .China's own Suspension Bridge. No comment. :-D Planning for the next 30 years! I don't think the Bengals have any interest in the #1 pick. It's a huge waste unless it for a quarterback. I bet they prefer to be out of the top 7. I can only hope they don't pick another Big Ten dud.

CVG: Delta and Comair news
Sounds like some of us should be rooting for the collapse of the auto industry. I don't understand Northern Ohio's fascination with Detroit anyway. They should be view as a competitor. I view them with indifference, but if the auto industry fails, a certain airport wouldn't look all the appealing a year from now.
