Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
Segways are fun. I've done a few "walking" tours with them, but those price points are absurd. You can buy a scooter or motorcycle for that kind of money.

Oh man that's so funny. I can't believe I've been missing out. Hell with UO, I'm joining Cincymoms.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Is this right? That would be half a year of hole drilling. Will they be able to to do other work while doing this part of the job?

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
I guess Monzel feels in the dark too. I pulled this from his monthly newsletter. Somehow I'm on his mailing list. Monthly updates won't fly on this forum, only daily reports. ;-) Five Months After Ground Breaking, Banks Project Still Sitting Idle Five months have passed since the ground breaking ceremony for the Banks Project but if you took a look at the site you would be hard pressed to find any progress. Because of this uncertainty, Councilman Chris Monzel introduced a measure to require the City Manager to give monthly status reports about the project. More specifically Monzel wants to know if there have been any changes, in the timeline, management, financing and feasibility. Monzel said that because of this project’s magnitude, the taxpayers have a right to know and should get regular updates.

Cincinnati: General Business & Economic News
^Sorry to hear this. Riemeier sponsored my little team for many years. I'm going back twenty years. When we won tournaments, the owner invited us to his home and we had a blast playing games in the basement. I believe they were very involved in the community back in the day. I think they have a warehouse in Lower Price Hill too. I wonder if the city would be interested in purchasing it for redevelopment.

Cincinnati Mountain Bike Trails
Hit the trail this weekend. Long gradual climbs rewarded with long downhill runs. Fun being deep in the woods. I think even the Boy Scouts helped out. Great to have this on the Westside. CORA is a great organization from what I understand and they know what they're doing. Hamilton County has the best parks in the region and offering mountain bike/hike trails is definitely worth the effort. I hope they do a lot more.

Interesting. Maybe he's a double agent and will destroy CityLink from the inside.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Great to see this article in the NYT. Cincinnati being the focal point on bringing streetcars to the cities. Even Columbus gets a blurb. I don't know if this is in the print addition. I'll have to nick my bosses' copy. Downtowns Across the U.S. See Streetcars in Their Future By BOB DRIEHAUS, Published: August 13, 2008 CINCINNATI — From his months-old French bistro, Jean-Robert de Cavel sees restored Italianate row houses against a backdrop of rundown tenements in this city’s long-struggling Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. He also sees a turnaround for the district, thanks to plans to revive a transit system that was dismantled in the 1950s: the humble streetcar line. “Human beings can be silly because we move away from things too quickly in this country,” Mr. de Cavel said. “Streetcar is definitely going to create a reason for young people to come downtown.” Cincinnati officials are assembling financing for a $132 million system that would connect the city’s riverfront stadiums, downtown business district and Uptown neighborhoods, which include six hospitals and the University of Cincinnati, in a six- to eight-mile loop. Depending on the final financing package, fares may be free, 50 cents or $1. To read more: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/14/us/14streetcar.html

Cincinnati Reds Discussion
Ditching Dunn and Griff save the Reds nearly $25m next year. I think the Reds payroll is in the 75-80m range this year. One problem is the free agent market doesn't look too hot. Maybe they're go after CC Sabathia. I usually get annoyed with the Reds by the All-Star break, but I've been hanging with them because of the young guys. I have a weekend in AZ planned to watch them. They'll be in the middle of a pennant hunt. ;-)

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Washington Park
This may answer a few questions about cleaning up Washington Park. I wonder if the DIC is feeling the heat to be a good neighbor. Drop Inn Center alters arrest policy Shelter has other changes in works By Jane Prendergast • [email protected] • August 5, 2008 Under scrutiny recently from some City Council members concerned about the Drop Inn Center's impact on Over-the-Rhine's hoped-for renaissance, shelter operators have been working on changes, executive director Pat Clifford told council's Health Committee members Monday. Some city officials and others have expressed concern about residents hanging around the outside of the shelter and in Washington Park and the image that leaves of the neighborhood. Cincinnati: OTR - City Home Project
Pleasant Street, pleasant plans Team of developers works on corridor transformation By Lisa Bernard-Kuhn • [email protected] • August 3, 2008 The vision is ambitious but simple. Backpack-clad children meandering through an expanded Washington Park on their way to Cincinnati's prized School for Creative & Performing Arts. Families strolling to Findlay Market for fresh dinner ingredients or to Music Hall for an evening performance. Residents ending their day with an easy walk to a courtyard home on a tree-lined street, nestled in the heart of Over-the-Rhine. Hollywood name drops Cincinnati
I would think a $10m production would already have a network lined up. This would seem to be quite a risk otherwise. I'm rooting for them. Fountain Square gets 'J8ded' TV show pilot filmed downtown By Quan Truong and Jennifer Baker • [email protected] and [email protected] • July 31, 2008 DOWNTOWN - Cincinnati Police Sgt. Roger Robbins didn't wear his usual uniform at Fountain Square Wednesday night. He was decked out in full military gear with an automatic rifle at his side and green paint smeared on his face. He wasn't a police sergeant. Not this night. Robbins was in full acting mode, ready for the lights and cameras. For this night, to those in the crowd, to his fellow police officers and especially to his 9-year-old daughter watching from the Westin Hotel windows, Robbins was part of Hollywood. <a href="http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/gallery?Avis=AB&Dato=20080730&Kategori=NEWS01&Lopenr=807300817&Ref=PH" class="bbc_link new_win" target="_blank">Photos: TV pilot films at Fountain Square.</a><br /> http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080731/NEWS01/807310389/1055/NEWS

I wish him luck, but he's a shell of his former self. The Reds had a $16m option for 2009 that they would be insane to pick up.

Gas Prices
^This question sent me on a search. This is what I found: 5. Where did the FHWA get the traffic data used in TVT? The TVT report is based on traffic data from the Highway Performance Monitoring System and on data submitted to the FHWA by State highway agencies throughout the entire U.S. The State highway agencies collect the data through permanent automatic traffic recorders (ATR) on public roadways. http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/ohim/tvtw/tvtfaq.htm

Cincinnati: Walnut Hills - Humana Center & SpringHill Suites
Here's a Spring Hill Suites that's not too bad looking. I don't know if they all look like this. This one is located in NKY, on Turfway Rd, right in front of Turfway Park race track.
