^Huge! The sweep of the Nationals was nice. I'm amazed how many former Reds are involved with that organization.
  3. Channel 5 has a video report about the garage coming down and they showed this god-awful squatty picture. They had some normal shots of how the building will look, but this one cracked me up. http://www.wlwt.com/video/16804562/

Another great article in the NYT. Some people think SUVs aren't the problem. This article promptly shows why SUV owners are worthy of the evil eye and arched eyebrow when ever you see one. This is also why I have very little sympathy for GM, Ford, etc. I'll only post a part of it American Energy Policy, Asleep at the Spigot By NELSON D. SCHWARTZ, Published: July 6, 2008 JUST three years ago, with oil trading at a seemingly frothy $66 a barrel, David J. O’Reilly made what many experts considered a risky bet. Outmaneuvering Chinese bidders and ignoring critics who said he overpaid, Mr. O’Reilly, the chief executive of Chevron, forked over $18 billion to buy Unocal, a giant whose riches date back to oil fields made famous in the film “There Will Be Blood.” Jad Mouawad contributed reporting. With gasoline prices high and rising, a new financial milestone has arrived: the $100 tank of gas. By CHRISTOPHER MAAG, Published: July 6, 2008 By late spring, owners of pickups and sport utility vehicles with 30-gallon tanks, like the Cadillac Escalade ESV and Chevrolet Suburban, started paying $100 or more to fill a near-empty tank. As gas prices continue to rise — the national average stood at about $4.10 a gallon Saturday — membership in the triple-digit club is growing. Now, even not-so-gargantuan Toyota Land Cruisers and GMC Yukons can cost $100 to fill up. For people who love their big vehicles, the pain is acute. 6. This does sound like theater overkill, but keep in mind Playhouse in the Park in Eden Park will be history. That's two theaters eliminated. The small theaters could provide additional options for the alt-theaters in OTR. This would be a great asset for Fringe Fest. Shows come in all different sizes and having flexibility is important. Music Hall really doesn't do theater. More concerts would be in nice. Tom Waits would a been a good fit. at least for me. ;-) I was a big fan of moving Playhouse in the Park to the Banks. Build a iconic building and watch it flourish. FS will work too. Also, I think a developer would sell their soul to buy the land of the current PitP. More upscale housing up there would be a win-win for the Park Board and Mt. Adams.
  7. After reading that there is a model of the CAM expansion, I was determine to see and take a few pics. For some reason CAM frown on that so I turned it into a challenge. Of course there was an usher keeping a close eye on things. But the usher stepped away and started talking to a visitor. I saw my opportunity . . . I was shooting without looking so most of the shots are pretty bad. There's a long table that have all these great little mock ups of other buildings the architects have done. Then they had the completed buildings that the mock ups turn into. There it is, in the blurry distance. Focus, focus, I'm getting closer. I tried to relax by shooting the best piece Warhol has ever done. ;-) The risk was worth it with this up close shot. Lacking details it's hard to see how this will all gel. I haven't been to CAM in sometime and I forgot how it already is piece together with a few different building styles. Then I started getting really nervous. I couldn't get out of there soon enough. The first usher I see pulls on his lapel and whispers into something, another usher stares me down which seemed like several minutes. I feel all these eyes on me. I casually visit the other exhibits trying to figure out my escape. I peek over the balcony to see if it's clear to leave. As soon as I do, a large security guy looks right up at me then writes something in his notepad. I'm screwed, I think. I figured this guy would tackle me if I made a run for it. Much to my relief I was able to walk out the door with another couple and coolly head to my car. Thinking security would block my exit, I zoomed out of there and preceded to get lost in Mt. Adams which probably help me lose the bad guys.
  8. Judging solely by the window frames, it looks like all Section 8 at the moment. Vinyl Windows?!!? How they get that pass the preservationists.
  9. We just need one win to snag that Ohio Cup! That's all I want. I want to drink out that cup. ;-)

  11. I thought the Academy building would be a goner. I hope the model is there longer than just this Friday. Art Museum: Give us more space By Sara Pearce • [email protected] • June 26, 2008 A tulip-shaped tower, an outdoor sculpture garden, renovation of the historic Art Academy of Cincinnati building, underground parking and more galleries are highlights of the latest plan for a renovation and expansion of the Cincinnati Art Museum. This week, the museum’s board of trustees voted to go forward with raising money for the project. On Friday, the public gets a peek at the design concept when the exhibition Long Time No See opens. 12. ^I figured the bricks would be going to The Banks project. Nice to see them being reused.
  13. I've tried a few more times and it's not working for me. I may go back to "borrowing" my neighbor's paper.
  14. I'm getting a kick out of these complaints. If the renderings offered up an ultra-modern dutch inspired design there would be howls of protest. What about our heritage, what about fitting in with existing buildings DT, and <drum roll, please> is it too much to ask for a nice brick building or two. ;-)
  15. Can't say I'm impress with the new redesign of their website. It doesn't seem to be organize too well.
  16. Are there some leading edge toilet design breakthroughs out there? The only other toilet type I can think are what the French use. A little warm water up the . . .

iTunes is offering a free episode of Black Gold. . . "Three crews of roughnecks hit the ground running in the race to find oil, but all three face disaster. From a crew that can barely get the system started to a bad injury -- there’s big drama on the rigs and one leader may not survive the first week." Drilling anywhere and everywhere.
  18. ^Anyone plan on going to these meetings? Cincinnati City Council’s economic development committee gets briefed at 11 a.m. Monday in council chambers at City Hall. Tuesday, the city’s Urban Design Review Board meets at 2 p.m. in City Hall, room 115, to discuss the project. Bring a camera: Schematic designs will be shown at the meeting of the development’s first phase
  19. ^Interesting. That is ALOT of greenspace. Dog park it is. ;-) BTW, welcome back Riverviewer. You're been MIA for some time.
  20. That's interesting that Cole + Russell was one of three parties willing to pay $750k to $1 mil for in that building. And yet the city is selling it for $250k to a company that let it sit empty for several years.

Dusty is easy to dislike, but after reading blurbs like this, I cut him some slack. Also, I believe he lives near the river. Not sure which side. But he seems to be interested in his surroundings. "SOLD ON SAWYER: Baker spent the off day Monday walking along the Ohio River at Sawyer Point. "I was so impressed," he said. His son, Darren, was particularly into the timeline walkway that explains the development of the planet. After seeing the statue of Cincinnatus, Darren asked: "Dad, he can fight with one hand?" "He's fighting with one hand and farming with the other," Baker said. "That's a bad dude, that cat."

But can a comprehensive rail system be built in 7-10 years? I'm all for rail my self, but it doesn't even seem to be in the conversation. It's all about what it will take to for people to maintain what they have. If I were a betting man (and I am), I think drilling on the coasts and Alaska will happen before the public wants an all-encompassing rail solution to be developed.

So does Bush and he would be going against dear old Dad to do so. I think this will put Democrats in a bind. People want their cheap gas back Bush Will Seek to End Offshore Oil Drilling Ban By SHERYL GAY STOLBERG, Published: June 18, 2008 WASHINGTON — President Bush, reversing a longstanding position, will call on Congress on Wednesday to end a federal ban on offshore oil drilling, according to White House officials who say Mr. Bush now wants to work with states to determine where drilling should occur. The move underscores how $4-a-gallon gas has become a major issue in the 2008 presidential campaign, and it comes as a growing number of Republicans are lining up in opposition to the federal ban. Even before the disclosure of Mr. Bush’s decision, the drilling issue caused a heated back-and-forth on the campaign trail on Tuesday, as Mr. McCain sought to straddle the divide between environmentalists and the energy industry, while facing accusations from his Democratic opponent, Senator Barack Obama, that he had flip-flopped and capitulated to the oil industry. Reporting was contributed by Carl Hulse from Washington; Elisabeth Bumiller from Houston; Jeff Zeleny from Taylor, Mich.; Jad Mouawad from New York; and David M. Herszenhorn from Washington. The Red Sox series didn't go too well. Saturday's game was fun despite the lost, but Sunday's game got ugly early. Big crowds make for a great atmosphere. Here's a pic from Sunday's game. We had seats right next to the GAP. A sweet view on a hot sunny day.
  25. I pulled some pics from the video. I didn't realize how big the caps would need to be. Maybe housing would work, but wouldn't access roads be needed too.
