Come on Reds, be progressive! Reds in AZ is the future. I may have go out there more than twice a year. Goodyear is kind of far from the perfecta that is Scottsdale, Mesa, Tempe, and Phoenix - all within a half hour of each other, but I'll take it. Reds to scout Goodyear, Ariz. Orlando only Fla. city making pitch to be spring home BY JOHN FAY | [email protected] Reds COO John Allen will be in Goodyear, Ariz., Wednesday to hear that city’s pitch to become the Reds’ new spring training home. Goodyear is where the Cleveland Indians will begin training in 2009. The city is pitching a plan for the Reds to share the complex with the Indians. The Reds started looking for a new spring home in November after a referendum for the last piece of funding to rebuild the Ed Smith Stadium complex was voted down in Sarasota. The response from other Florida cities trying to land the Reds has been underwhelming. At this point, Orlando is only city making a pitch to land the Reds. 3. Like it or not the way OSU spends so much on their "student-athletes", they will be a long-term target. For better or worse OSU will probably start being lump in with teams like the Yankees, Duke, Steelers, and UK - teams people love to hate, and when they fail to win it all people are going to gloat.
  4. Zoomtown vs RoadRunner: Which is Better? Last Update: 6:11 pm Viewers have asked me for years which is the better high speed internet deal: Cincinnati Bell's Zoomtown, or Time Warner's RoadRunner? My usual response: It all depends on what kind of "bundling" plan you get. But tonight, we have the results of a new comparison from our partners at Consumer Reports Magazine. * Rated #3: Cincinnati Bells Zoomtown, cited for its solid reliability and performance. 5. Maybe these conceptual designs will inspire some donations.
  6. I didn't do it honest, really. :-o
  7. Monday, January 7, 2008 - 3:03 PM EST Downtown furniture store to close Business Courier of Cincinnati - by Lisa Biank Fasig Staff Reporter Contemporary Galleries, the downtown furniture dealer that through decades evolved from Scandinavian to Italian to urban styles, is closing its doors after 45 years. Owner Rick Mayer said he is in the process of selling his store's historic, five-story building on Fourth Street to a developer who may convert it to condominiums. The buyer approached him, he said, and after 43 years at the store - about 35 of which he was a partner or owner - he decided to move on. I can't believe no one has followed up on this. Here's Team Cincinnati kicking some choir butt. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDZAQ-W31jo

This movie has my attention. Wasn't Godzilla consider a "friendly" monster? Would he really be knocking Lady Liberty's head off. Also, Transformers was a guilty pleasure for me. Great eye candy with the robot battles. It got me thinking if I had any Transformer toys and I didn't. I was a kid of the 70's not the 80's. I was a big fan of Shogun Warriors. I had quite a collection, along with Star Wars, of course. So I looked up Shogun Warriors and who is listed but Godzilla. Small world. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shogun_Warriors. This entry brings it all back. "The most attractive features on these toys were the spring loaded launcher weapons such as missiles, star shuriken, and battleaxes. Some robots were able to launch their fists. The later diecast versions of these toys were also attractive for the ability to transform into different shapes. Raydeen, for instance, was changeable into a birdlike spaceship. These "convertible" editions were the precursors to the "Transformers" line of toy robots but unlike the later toyline it was not unusual for minor dissasembly to be required to achieve the secondary form. Also the second form was not always an apparently useful one, a "giant skull" for instance."
  10. That may very well be true. But the counter argument is that the city is creating wrecks by adding the cameras, as some panicky drivers unexpectedly (to the cars behind) slam on the breaks at yellow lights out of fear of a $100 ticket. Whether or not that's true, I can't say for sure, but the data I've seen so far supports that hypothesis. The cameras were a good idea, but they don't work in practice. They are supposed to decrease accidents, not increase them, yet that's the effect they seem to have overall, assuming the data is accurate. I know this getting off topic, but I'll just say if your trying to beat the red light, the light is probably still yellow. If the light turns red while your doing this, you better be slamming on the brakes regardless if there is a camera or not. And unless a person is driving an anxious SUV or Semi, vehicles behind you should also be paying attention to the light and also be prepared. In AZ, I have experience these cameras and I'm pretty a sure a photo will only be taken when the light is red, not yellow. The photo will catch you "in the act". Now photo radar on highways is interesting. Everyone knows where they are and there is a build it cushion. Usually, 10+ mph. You can see the cameras and flashes on the side of the road. They can even get you at night. ;-) These cameras aren't hidden. I would expect the locations to listed. Would people rights feel less violated if the city hired a cop to do nothing but patrol a single intersection? At the very least your breaking the law and at worst, you just killed someone. If people need to re-learn driving 101 so be it.
  11. I've ridden the Metro DT many times and it's pretty uneventful. I know the goal of the streetcars is to increase DT living, but there's an existing element in OTR that could overwhelmed the streetcar which could hamper its full potential. I may be over-reaching, but I think crime will need to be watched closely. I'm all for dollar fares every time you step onto the car.
  12. I'm a bit concern about crime on the streetcars. I can't help but think they could become mobile Drop-In Centers. I wouldn't be surprise if running red-lights is more dangerous than speeding. I'm all for the cameras.
  13. Realistically, any addition streetcar lines would be a least a few years away, right? I've forgotten when the current line would be finished. Also, wouldn't federal funding be involved, which takes time, in the newer lines? Granted, all I know and see about streetcars, I've learned on this forum. I'm sure someone will set me straight.

Your singing to the choir, man. Those other cities don't have a chance. ;-)

^I'm by far a dog person than a cat nut and I find this absurd. Flat-screen TVs for dogs? Please aren't most dogs color-blind anyway.
  16. But would Corporex be building a pedestrian bridge and light rail line? I would think they would expect the city and state to do so.
  17. Well, you can't deny that one of goals of building the $100m streetcar through OTR isn't to create even more low income housing. There is now a consorted effort to elevate OTR, which is long over due and can't happen soon enough. The plan to spend $14m to redo Washington Park isn't to create a nicer place for people to drink their forty ouncers Another few million to build a nifty glass enclosed garage around two historic structures isn't being built to protect DIC finest from dealing with people in suits and evening gowns. Building the SCPA and remodeling Music Hall aren't happing so someday they can be used for transitional housing. OTR should not longer be for a small segment of the population, it should be a regional draw and if all these projects pan out it will be. The city and 3CDC shouldn't have to apologized for that.

    Menopause?
  19. What was the address of this building, if you don't mind me asking? 1531 Pleasant. The property consisted of two buildings, both shells. So 3CDC put you out on the street, those bastards! OTR truly is at a tipping point. Streetcar, Washington Park redo, Music Hall redo, SCPA, the almighty 3CDC. It nice to the see the silent approval that the city seems to be giving 3CDC and their plans. The next few years should be fun to watch.
  20. Some interesting bits have surfaced. December 07, 2007 Housing at The Banks Will Be Geared to Multiple Income Levels — Kevin Osborne, Posted at 06:11 PM Developers of The Banks assured a city design panel Thursday that the proposed housing, shopping and office district along the Ohio River won’t include just upscale condominiums but will also contain more affordable rental units. AIG/Carter and Harold A. Dawson Inc., the Atlanta-based developers selected by Cincinnati and Hamilton County officials to build The Banks, met with the city’s Urban Design Review Board to discuss preliminary plans. Comprised of local architects, the board serves as an advisory panel to the city manager. To read more: http://blogs.citybeat.com/porkopolis/2007/12/housing-at-the.html
  21. Report: Keep city's tunnels intact BY GREGORY KORTE | [email protected] Cincinnati should maintain the subway tunnels it abandoned 80 years ago – if only because it would cost much more to fill them in, according to city engineers. The engineers’ study released today is the most comprehensive analysis of the subway in decades, and was supposed to answer some long-term questions about the ill-fated project’s future. The study said it would cost about $100.5 million to make the tunnels useable for modern transit cars. Filling in the tunnels would cost about $19.6 million. Either way, the city would have to spend another $13.5 million to relocate a 52-inch water main placed in the southbound tunnel in 1959 – a project so big it could require a region-wide water rate increase. 22. I see now, it's 42 properties scattered throughout the city for the $19m, including a few places in OTR. Nothing to see here just the status quo, probably more low income housing. You can't trust a company from Brooklyn, NY. :-(
  23. Rare Mummified Dinosaur Unearthed: Contains Skin, and Maybe Organs, Muscle By Evan Ratliff 12.03.07 | 12:00 AM Scientists on Monday announced the discovery of what appears to be the world's most intact dinosaur mummy: a 67-million-year-old plant-eater that contains fossilized bones and skin tissue, and possibly muscle and organs. Preserved by a natural fluke of time and chemistry, the four-ton mummified hadrosaur, a duck-billed herbivore common to North America, could reshape the understanding of dinosaurs and their habitat, its finders say.
