  1. Get yourself a Commemorative (Orange!) Token for $10 (or $12 if ordered online). Good for unlimited rides for the first week of revenue service. http://www.go-metro.com/news/712/58/Cincinnati-Streetcar-Commemorative-Tokens-Now-on-Sale http://www.go-metro.com/fares-passes/passes-order-page
  2. Sounds like the streetcar construction officially came under budget. Now with a $2.5M contingency instead of $500K.

Crystal Palace is using the Bengals' practice fields. It must pain Mike Brown not to charge them a user fee.

I've been re-watching the series Louie (tv show). Something I rarely do. It's just a great mix of humor and weirdness. The shows barely run 20 mins. so I can gorge on them. I haven't seen Louis CK's latest, Horace and Pete, since it only seems to be avail. by paid dl. I'd like to think one of the streaming services will pick it up.

Duff's wife is a big Reds fan and Ohio native. I haven't seen an attendance number for Cincy, but KC had 25K, Detroit and DC about 40K. They had some crazy expensive ticket packages. I didn't go but I heard that they blocked off the upper level and move people to the middle level.
  6. Taste of Belgium bought the last available exterior advertisement. Kerry Toyota bought some interior advertisements.
  7. Isn't Shree Kulkarni the suburban developer Cranley appointed. IDK about Tim Voss.

That's a surprise Airbnb isn't allowed in NYC. So cities, towns, townships have some ability to regulate this. I wonder if streets with HOA have any authority. The township is having a hearing soon re: the bnb request. Basically this resident overreached. If they kept the number of guests to 2 to 4 there wouldn't be resistance. Instead they are turning it into a beach house in the burbs. I've rental houses for 10+ but your usually surrounded by about other rentals.

**didn't see an Airbnb thread. Whether this is worthy of its own thread, I'll leave that to the mods.** I haven't used Airbnb and don't think it's something that appeals to me but I'm curious about others experience with it. It sounds like an interesting idea in theory but I'm not the type to let strangers stay at my place and I doubt I would seek out Airbnb rental unless it was a last resort option. My only hands-on experience is on a residential street in the 'burbs and it's not pretty. One house advertises as a place for up to 10 people. Homes that usually have 3 or 4 people. The immediate neighbors aren't thrilled. Cars parked everywhere. Drinking, etc. Cops have been called. Supposedly the resident gets fine $125 each time they do a rental. I don't know who fines them or how they know or if any kind of restrictions can be placed on Airbnb rentals. Supposedly the resident is wanting to avoid the fines by requesting the township allow the home to be turn into a Bed 'n Breakfast. i.e. a small business.
  10. Bryce Harper (Washington Nationals) at The Eagle in OTR. If he's a slow eater, he still may be there. https://www.instagram.com/p/BGK2dshgITv/
  11. Best opening shot in the history of cinema. Ton of DT in this trailer. Goin' be epic.

WCPO has a nice story (behind paywall) about the attention FC Cincy has gotten including international news sites. Found these bits interesting: "...And while plans for an academy system are on the horizon and a 15-year lease at Nippert Stadium might cast doubts on short-term MLS viability, no one can rain on FC Cincinnati’s parade. http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2016/05/13/another-orlando-inside-charts-exciting-rise-fc-cincinnati "...Bjorn, Chip and 150 others are marching just under a mile from Mecklenburg Gardens, a quaint corner bar, toward Nippert Stadium — the home to what’s quickly becoming America’s most fascinating new club." https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/may/16/fc-cincinnati-usl-record-attendances-soccer "...We also have a give-back programme, in which we give back some of the money we get from local clubs as a charitable donation. When parents buy tickets online they can indicate which club they're from and at the end of the season we will tally it up and give some money back. "While the $100 million-plus expansion fee will not be a problem for the FC Cincinnati ownership group" "Some of the new stadiums that are being built are in the 25,000-seat range. But we can draw possibly 35,000 at Nippert, right in the heart of a college campus. We've designed the stadium as a soccer pitch, there are no football lines. We have locker rooms fully decked out for soccer. We have sufficient control over the schedule." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/04/19/fc-cincinnati-show-strength-in-numbers-for-mls-push/
  13. He is effectively putting more debt on the streetcar to finance these projects. I thought $25m was coming from the Blue Ash airport sale. Has this been officially announced. I know WCPO had the scoop but that's all I can find reporting it. For those of us who's been around awhile this has a very similar (bad) vibe of the monies receive from the Anthem stock sale. Canley led the way for investments in neighborhoods with very little to show for it. I think that was nearly $85m
  14. Doesn't the proposal also include an indoor venue for the Banks. Though the one in columbus looks like an oversized tool shed. I wouldn't want that on the Banks.
  15. ^"...suggested fee would be $3.22 for every 2,000 square feet ...They also suggested switching to monthly bills ...Hamilton County’s rates are the highest in Ohio, but it is the only one of the state’s most populous county’s not to have a financial assistance program ...lots of delinquent accounts; 16,500"
  16. An interesting proposal from a Hamilton County task force for sewer rates - charging a new fee for parking lots and other “impervious surfaces”. Maybe this would make surface lots less appealing for DT. I'm sure there would be heavy blowback from businesses and the commissioners will cave. A parking lot fee on sewer bills? "...The task force said the fee for impervious surfaces could make rates fairer by charging more to homes and businesses that allow large amounts of stormwater to flow from those surfaces into the sewer system. The suggested fee would be $3.22 for every 2,000 square feet of impervious surface..." http://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/politics/2016/05/23/parking-lot-fee-sewer-bills/84774162/

It looks claustrophobic. Does it allow you to move around, much less get a Sprite and bag of nuts.

It could be worst. Professional soccer teams like Chevrolet, AVIVA, AON, AIA, Fly Emirates muck up their uniforms with those little seals on the top left of their uniforms.

I finally made the jump into the world of streaming tv. I have Amazon Prime and was finally able to watch The Wire and Treme. I didn't think I'd be interested in watching shows from 5, 10 years ago. Curb Your Enthusiasm is really great even if Larry David has some odd acting quarks. Something current that UO'ers might like is Show Me a Hero on HBO. It's about the simple task of introducing 200 units of low income housing to (east) Yonkers, NY.

This is why I asked about turf fields. 11,000 Sat., thanks to the cold and rain. Artificial turf and cancer: ESPN digs into crumb rubber risks ...following in the footsteps of an NBC News investigation last year, “The Turf War” explores the anecdotal evidence that soccer players – especially young ones – are at risk due to the toxic cocktail of chemicals found in crumb rubber, the tiny bits of recycled auto tires used as infill in most modern turf surfaces..." http://www.soccerwire.com/news/clubs/youth-boys/artificial-turf-and-cancer-espn-digs-into-crumb-rubber-risks-with-troubling-e60-report-by-julie-foudy/

I'll admit I more interested in how FC Cincy expands. I'm not jumping on the bandwagon just yet. Seems they want Nippert to be their home long term. MLS doesn't require grass fields? I thought there's been some concern re: health issues with turf that has uses rubber beads. FC Cincy's deal with UC: More Nippert changes "...upcoming renovation calls for expanding the field to 115 yards long and 75 yards wide. ...plans to permanently remove a "minimum number of rows and lower level seats" ...club's contract calls for it to pay UC $5,000 per game and an additional $20,000 for the season to use the stadium, locker room, weight room and other athletic facilities for practices and game preparation. ...previously, there had been buzz about the possibility of FC Cincinnati paying for a new scoreboard and sound system ...not part of the contract." http://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/2016/04/27/fc-cincys-deal-uc-more-nippert-changes/83597078/

Looks like Youtube is letting some stuff in just not original music. Get his first 9 albums and you'll be all set. When Super Bowl half time shows were live and interesting. He's pretty good at that guitar thing FF to 3:29

Damn, now Prince is gone. Terrible. Sign O' the Times was his best. Youtube has an awful selection of videos. Can't even find anything decent to post.
  24. The fix is in. Bengals play at the Steelers on Week 2 with no Burfict. The London game is @ 9:30am. I think the Bengals will be popular in London. Rumour has it for Thursday's "Color Rush" game, the Bengals will be in all orange and the Dolphins in all teal.
  25. IDK, I think I could say bye-bye if this replaces it ...
