  1. I found this website on another blog - http://otrbrewerydistrict.com/ The videos are interesting. Someone has big ideas. Anyone know how realistic this is?
  2. I was reading some blogs and I found this post interesting from Joe Wessels about living in OTR. I used to enjoy wandering around OTR on what I believe are the safest times, Sat and Sun afternoons, but I don't do that anymore. http://joewessels.blogspot.com/2005/10/coming-home-not-so-easy.html
  3. Sweet, there a few smart people around after all. <b>Playhouse may move to Banks</b> By Jerry Stein Post staff reporter The possibility of moving Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park from its longtime home in Mount Adams to the Ohio riverfront is being considered as part of a feasibility study for the theater. It would make the theater part of the Banks project. "The board and the staff have been involved in a strategic planning process for probably about two years now," said Playhouse Executive Director Buzz Ward. The future of the 626-seat main stage theater, the Robert S. Marx Theater built in 1968, is just a part of the wide-ranging study which is due in November. "This encompasses a broad spectrum of issues -our programming, education, endowment, our facilities, etc. -for the future," Ward said. The Playhouse has identified a need for a new theater in some form. Publication date: 10-14-2005 http://news.cincypost.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051014/NEWS01/510140361
  4. As in Elder Panther. <gag> I think there was a shooting recently on this street.
  5. So have they decided on one bridge? That's not clear. I was hoping for two, one to replace the Brent Spence and one much futher west.
  6. Thanks for the insider info, Cincy-Rise, good stuff. It looks like the lights are on(taken Wed 10/6):
  7. ^Ok, I play the bad guy, First, wouldn't building the school in this crime-ridden area get rid of said crime? The bad element would move on, would it not. If the Art Academy used the Neighborhood Council logic, they would of never moved to the crime-infested area of OTR from Eden Park. Also, what is this "potential prime mixed-use property". Is there another plan for the property, where was this plan five, ten years ago. Is the Council ready to move on this different plan? Though it's not spelled out, their other concern is the green space near SCPA. Does anyone really know what a developer would do if they bought this building? I doubt someone would come in and tear down the school and pave over it. That place has condos written all over it. Granted some green space may be loss to parking but I would hold the developer to the fire not CPS. This just smells of "I don't want change in my backyard, everything is just fine, Thank You"
  8. I saw this on the news yesterday and they had an overhead shot and there doesn't look to be any garages. If I'm dropping that kind of money, I want a garage or two. When I lived in an apartment, I hated not have a garage.
  9. Good detective work. I think we should get the I-team on these rich homeowners who own these run down properties. In my part of the neighborhood I always wondered about those BMWs or Mercedes' parked in the run down areas of River Road and Queen City. Those people should be exposed.
  10. Not a one in Cincinnati, our State goverment is useless.
  11. How 'bout having NO guns pointed at you. I guess that is too much to ask in OTR these days.
  12. The vacant buildings in OTR that some think have so much promise.
  13. You bet. I'd take something a little different, modern, and unique than wishing and hoping an abandon building that's been empty 10-15 years will be fixed up sometime in the next 20 years.
  14. <b>Some wear out their welcome</b> By Tony Cook, Post staff reporter While most of the 14 Hurricane Katrina victims who arrived on charter buses from Louisiana last week are steadily adjusting to life in Cincinnati, one is in jail and some host families are growing weary of caring for evacuees. Daniel Eaton, 44, of St. Bernard Parish, La., opened and drank a 24-ounce Bud Ice beer - valued at $1.49 - at the Over-the-Rhine Kroger store Saturday afternoon, according to Cincinnati police. He then threatened to kill a police officer and had a crack pipe in his possession, according to city prosecutors. He was being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center. 15. I can't quite picture this location. Sedamsville, Riverside to Glenway - I tried to google map it. Wouldn't that run into Mt Echo Park. I know we aren't suppose to be fans of big boxes, but this area is hurting.
  16. $30 million seems like a lot for that buiding, I would expect a window or two for my 75K. I hope any buyer would still consider the new facade. The listing has a slightly updated image.
  17. The others I would call conservative, generic . . .
  18. The architect, Emilio Fernandez, for the one and only modern school that CPS is doing so far, Riverview East Academy K-12 (East End), was profiled by the Enquirer. I'll just post the link since, the article is more about residential houses. http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050910/LIFE08/509100304/1089
  19. I usually hate anything Bronson writes, but I've done walking tours with the group that Mary Poole is a part of and they are truly ambassadors for the city and if she is rattled it can't be good. All it takes is one incidence to spook people and they're done. <b>Crime is 'just politics' the way 9/11 was 'just a plane crash'</b> By Peter Bronson, Enquirer staff writer Mary Poole has led guided walking tours in Over-the-Rhine on weekends all summer. "Not anymore," she says. Not since she was assaulted and robbed at noon last Saturday as she walked to her car on Elm Street next to Findlay Market. "A man approached me, and I thought he was going to ask me for money, so I was hurrying to get in my car. Then he pulled a gun on me. I didn't know what he wanted, so I started screaming, and I wouldn't let go of my purse. He grabbed me, then he punched me, and I let go." 20. Here's the thread. http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=3134.0
  21. I think Mark has had on going problems with his condo from Middle Earth. He gave us updates on the progress of his condo. There is a thread someone on this site, but damn if I can find it. I think there was a square ft issue. He got less than what was advertised. Also, I think they are very slow in addressing problems/concerns. I have high hopes for Parker Flats. I hope MED has improved. It sounds like MED hasn't resolved issues with his condo, which I'm sorry to hear.
  22. I guess that gambling study really got people thinking. Queensgate and Broadway Commons are interesting choices. If the new Brent Spence bridge moves further west . . . Kentuckians could just hop on the bridge to casino. There's all kinds of possibilities.
  23. Here's a different angle of The Ascent that I haven't seen before from the Enquirer.
  24. Let's build two! I can't wait to see this built. I hope they open it up for tours. From the Cincy Post. <b>Condo buyers line up</b> Luxury high-rise in Covington offers views of the river and city By Bob Driehaus, Post staff reporter More than twice as many people have made initial commitments to buy condos in architect Daniel Libeskind's Ascent at Roebling Row high-rise than there are units - two months before groundbreaking. The interest in condos that start at $400,000 and climb to the $4.5 million Pinnacle penthouse, has been intense and is poised to grow further after Thursday's unveiling of a sales center on the 10th floor of RiverCenter, the future condo building's neighbor to the west. Bill Butler, president and chairman of Corporex Cos., said about 200 potential buyers each completed a three-page form to reserve a condo despite the fact that units won't be available at least until August 2007, which would be just in time to witness the Riverfest fireworks.
