Cincinnati: Oakley: Oakley Station
Did anyone see the article about an IKEA store that may be coming to Cincy? They mentioned Millworks, but can't remember where I read it.

Cincinnati: Green Twp - Legacy Place
I can't remember what replaced the Kroger either. But my point was the people who live near Harrison Rd use to shop the Glenway Strip Malls and since Harrison has been built up with a White Castle and a car wash(yes, I'm not a big fan of annihilating a hillside for such things) they no longer travel to Glenway and those shopping areas have suffered as a result. Legacy sounds huge, I guess it wouldn't compete with Northgate Mall. Harrison Rd traffic is terrible and it will only get worst.

Cincinnati: Green Twp - Legacy Place
The empty stores are on Glenway. Kroger moved from one side of the street to the other from Westernhills Plaza plus there are other empty store fronts. Thriftway, Service Merchandise and others have closed in Glenway Crossing. That's a big empty area. I think there is a bigger issue here of poor and xxxx(something I regret typing) moving slowing west and having a negative affect on these older areas of the westside(not offense). The Bridgetown road area has booming subdivisions. Lots of McMansions and this Legacy Place would be aimed toward them.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Queen City Square
I find it hard to believe that Western & Southern won't be moving their offices there when it's all said and done. Regarding the actual construction, are the glass panels also the interior walls of the building? I might not be saying it right, but what separates the panels from the interior space, if any.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Convention Center / Hotel
Isn't that a new(green) Home Depot? That is pretty uninspired.

Cincinnati: Google Maps Guessing Game
I like how Google let's you use the arrow keys to scan all of greater Cincinnati. I was comparing the location to where the Ohio River is. It makes for a nice fly-by.

Again, nice work. This got me wondering how many people on this site are involved with rehabs in our urban areas. Show yourself. :-)

Cincinnati: OTR: Gateway Condos/Kroger Garage
Are the condo's in front of the garage so the back of the units are right up against it? I like the glass part.

Cincinnati Park System
Based on the pdf file, the park is only half done. The pics were taken near Fiddler Overhead and the fenced off area starts at the River Promenade. As for flooding, one of the older buildings(I hope they get rehabbed) did have a "flood ruler"?!? on it's side. It was broken but it indicated at 70 to 75 feet the building would be half under water. I don't know if that helps. I didn't take a pic of it. I was living on the edge today and decided the jump over the caution tape and take a few more pics today. . . . what makes the park worth the visit for me.

Cincinnati Park System
Here are a few pics of the new section of the park. I would guess 1/4 of the park is fenced off and still under construction.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Seeing Mike Brown and John Allen in the photo seems to indicate they have agreed to share parking revenue. I think Portune was there too - will the county lawsuit against the Bengals be resolved? I hope Mike Brown gave up his veto power on how high the buildings on The Banks can be. That is absurd he was given that authority.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
I'm getting antsy for info. Here's another article from the Business Courier. Sounds like their doing more than just the garages, but only part of the Banks in a piece meal sort of way. County moves forward on Banks project Dan Monk, Courier Senior Staff Reporter Construction could start as early as next spring on two riverfront blocks of retail and residential space, under a new development agreement announced today by Hamilton County. Developer Rob Smyjunas said his company, Vandercar Holdings Inc., and Covington-based Corporex Cos. Inc., will contribute $10 million in equity toward the project, known as the Banks. Smyjunas said the development will start with the construction of two parking garages east of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. "We're looking forward to doing a great quality riverfront project that will beneficial and celebrated by this community and the region," Smyjunas said. Corporex is the developer that rebuilt Covington's riverfront, with a combination of office, hotel and luxury residential projects. Vandercar developed a big-box retail project in Oakley, dubbed The Center of Cincinnati. To read more: http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/stories/2005/06/06/daily43.html?jst=b_ln_hl

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Late breaking news from the Enquirer. It sounds like some potential dysfunction between the county and city. I hope Corporex is just doing the garages. We're find out for sure Friday afternoon. Developers for Banks selected County is moving ahead as other groups caught off guard By Gregory Korte, Enquirer staff writer Hamilton County commissioners are expected to introduce a development team for the riverfront real estate known as The Banks today, moving the long-stalled project forward. But the county seems to be going it alone on the project, with the city of Cincinnati - which owns the development "air rights" - and its two quasi-private development agencies left out of the loop. The commissioners are expected to name developers Corporex Inc. of Covington and Vandercar Holdings Inc. of Madisonville as the preferred development team, said several independent sources in business and government who have been briefed on the announcement. The sources all requested anonymity because of the delicate politics involved. Corporex, owned by Bill Butler, has reshaped the Kentucky riverfront through the RiverCenter office towers in Covington. Vandercar, whose president is Rob Smyjunas, built the Center of Cincinnati shopping center in Oakley. Staff writer Cliff Peale contributed. To read more: None. No link given.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
I pulled this from their website: Today the Playhouse offers productions 10 months out of the year, attracting more than 200,000 people annually to its two theatres, the 626-seat Robert S. Marx Theatre and the intimate Thompson Shelterhouse, which seats 225. Each show enjoys a run of at least four weeks, with eight performances per week, scheduled for every day but Monday That's the kind of action The Banks need. Attracting that amount people on regular basis would have to be a good thing for the Banks, Fountain Square, etc. Who owns the theatres? the City? I would think a developer could fill the hole the Playhouse would leave.

Article on the Greater Cincinnati dialect
What's odd about "let's go smoke"? +++++++ That's KY speak for going on a break at work.

Article on the Greater Cincinnati dialect
Being a Westsider, I say and hear "please" all the time. I guess I can blame my German father. My east coast(Conn) mother(retired teacher) can't stand it and still tries to correct me and I'm in my thirties. People still pick up on her east coast accent and she left Conn in her twenties. I work in NKY and my KY co-workers has strong accents. Y'all, farehouse(firehouse), hellbells, let's go smoke, I hear them all. I also work with a printer near Lousiville and they have a strong accent. Through, I think it sounds more sweet than redneck, at least from the ladies. I'm sucker for a southern female accent.

Cincinnati: Queensgate: Hudepohl Redevelopment
Really!?! That's what they're calling it. I can't picture any residential there. It's so industrial (scrap yard, train tracks) with businesses (UPS, Butternut). I use to work where the Natural History Museum storage building is now. Not to mention the jail. Granted most of the people are there for minor DUI types offenses, but would you want to live near that? There is a chance for daily entertainment with the basketball court and the girlfriends/wives showing their men some love. . . Maybe the new owners know something we don't. Is the jail moving?

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
I tip my hat to the builders and buyers. They should get an UrbanOhio award. For those going to Tour of Homes in OTR - take pictures! I got out voted and going to Summer Fair at Coney Island instead.

Some rare new housing planned on the Westside. You know Addyston(Speedtrap USA) is small when this plan would nearly double the population. Westsiders love change. Addyston condo plan unpopular with some By Cliff Radel, Enquirer staff writer ADDYSTON - Their neighbors used to be cows. Soon, they could be condos. Come Tuesday, a hilly 57.6-acre plot on the bluffs above this riverfront village could be on its way to becoming a $30-million condominium project. Some of the 1,000 residents in this West Side community are upset. "It'll ruin our retreat in the woods and cause landslides," said Susan Frede. Others are delighted. "Our tax base will be infused with new blood," said Addyston mayor Dan Pillow. "No downside looms large in my mind." This is a familiar tale: green space vs. growth. It's being played out from West Chester and Ludlow to Clermont County and Newport. To read the rest of this story please visit The Cincinnati Enquirer Archives

Cincinnati: OTR: Vine Street
What happen with Vine becoming the main connector to Uptown and CBD? Isn't it still consider the most straight forward route. I would really like to see the Uptown Consortium utilized their new found wealth. http://news.cincypost.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050513/NEWS01/505130333 When I'm driving on Vine it really feels I'm running through a gantlet. A major streetscape project would be nice to see. I was hunting for an apartment building in OTC on Clay for a college friend and everything was pleasant until I turned on Vine to get to Central Pkwy. I never did find the building or Clay St for that matter.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Smale Riverfront Park
Yes, thanks Cincinnati Kid for all the detailed and pics. In the meeting did they say the FWW coverings are definite? I do have a bit more info on Twain's Point. They had an open house on Mother's Day (hey it beats buying flowers). Only 8 left to sell out of 26 or so. They are selling in the 600K to 700K range. They plan another patch of condos further east and some cheaper condos near the firehouse (300K plus). The views are great especially from the third floor master bedroom, but the back of the units on right on top of Columbia Pkwy. The triple panel Pella windows do work, but once you open that back door . . . Also there isn't really an easy way to cross Eastern Ave to get to the Freedom Park. BTW, that last sculpture isn't up yet.

OK, The_Cincinnati_Kid should be home by now typing up all the details and getting his pics in order. Right?
