November 2015: Ohio Issues 2 and 3 (Monopolies/Marijuana)
The Enquirer has been running Q&A's for several months. One was specific about whether issue 3 is a monopoly. "...No. And because that it’s important to use the right word correctly, I will wage this battle with all the strength in my typing hands. But you needn’t take my word for it. “‘Mono’ means one,” says Michael Jones, director of research at the Economics Center at the University of Cincinnati. “The technical economic definition is that a monopoly means one seller. This is the word that people use, and the secretary of state is using it in the ballot language, but it’s fair to say that it’s misleading. It’s not a monopoly...” http://projects.cincinnati.com/Pages/anneanswers9.9/index.html She seems far and balance. Unlike calling Tea Party groups organized as 501©(4); social welfare organizations

I thought that was low too (from the Enquirer): ...Under the deal, the city of Cincinnati would levy an annual property assessment - now pegged at $1.35 per square foot - on the site's office space. ...to help Cincinnati meet its desire to obtain a long-term source of revenue following the property sale. If 500,000 square feet of office space is developed, the city could receive up to $13.5 million over the agreement's life. It could receive more money if an employer moves out of Cincinnati to occupy office space at the Blue Ash site....

Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
moonloop replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentIDK, Private Equity / Hedge Funds are pretty ruthless. Frischs is nothing more than an investment to them. Typical they used borrowed money and will most likely load the company up with debt. Expect constant changes. Turnover. I would expect most of the home office to be wiped out. Outsourced. Then in 2-3 years sell to another Private Equity / Hedge Funds and the new group will do it all over again. Of course their profits are considered "carried interest" so they pay a very low tax rate. Freedom, Liberty! One of my first co-op jobs was in their home office. Granted it's been ages since I was there, but the average employee won't know what hits them.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
Hmm, you conveniently left off the team tOSU will be most scared of... 2019 - Sept. 7: Cincinnati I will belatedly and begrudgingly congratulate that team for doing something I didn't think was possible, winning a championship on the field. No backroom deals, no payoffs, no poll manipulation, no cronyism, just a quality team taking it to Alabama and Oregon. I do question whether they would of even made the playoffs if the Big 12 had a true conf. champ. As for this year, it will be nearly impossible not to pick the defending champ for a playoff spot. With their standard god-awful non-conf schedule then moving on to an even more truly awful conf. schedule, even if they had 2-3 loses, I see them in the playoffs. Still not a fan, still won't root for them but enjoy the mini-dynasty.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
Folks here really don't read the Enquirer? This has been up a few days and I haven't seen it posted. OTR distillery, event space will bring vision to life Opening the door at the back of the 1939 Over-the-Rhine Tudor house that is the headquarters for her Pet Wants business, she gets the wide-eyed reaction she has come to expect. Calling the space a warehouse – which it is – is like calling a classic Mustang a car: It’s accurate, but boy, does it undersell what you’re about to see. The building dates to 1899, with high ceilings and original wood. It’s large, big enough to accommodate about 400 people..." http://www.cincinnati.com/story/entertainment/2015/07/30/otr-distillery-event-space--bring-vision-life/30888329/

Cincinnati: Downtown: Heritage Bank Center
Also, I think any poor sightlines would be fixed... "When U.S. Bank Arena does begin its renovation, it would have to close for a year, Harris said. Its main tenant, the Cincinnati Cyclones hockey team, would need to find a temporary location for a season. “This would take the structure down to its bones,” he said.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Heritage Bank Center
I think it's short-sighted for UC to downsize. That would give the Cincy area three arenas that seat 10K. I was tracking down some numbers for NBA/NHL teams and even with the renovation it wouldn't put US Bank in the middle of the pack. I think the 18,500 is for concerts so for games that would be $17K+ or so. NBA and NHL seem to avg just over 18K The avg. # of NBA suites (circa 2010) is 97. US Bank at 60 with a possibility of increasing. But I'm optimistic that in 2019 and foresee an announcement that the Cincinnati Cavaliers and Bluejackets with start playing there. ;-)

Anyone see this? Nederlander Entertainment, AEG Unveil U.S. Bank Arena Renovation Concepts MSA Sport designs new vision for downtown arena CINCINNATI - July 28, 2015 – Nederlander Entertainment and AEG Facilities today released renovation concepts for U.S. Bank Arena, designed by local architectural firm MSA Sport. “Cincinnati has proven that it can successfully host major events, including the MLB All-Star Game and the 2012 World Choir Games, but we know we need to improve our major indoor sports and entertainment venue to continue to be competitive for major events and national acts,” said Ray Harris, CEO of Nederlander Entertainment, which owns U.S. Bank Arena in partnership with AEG. “We’re confident this vision for a new and dramatically upgraded U.S. Bank Arena, when implemented, will give us the ability to compete for and deliver major events on a consistent basis. This is a critical component of our community’s economic development.” http://usbankarena.com/whatsnextcincy

Cincinnati: Parks Levy
When a $250K OTR condo abatement expires and starts paying prop tax, it will lower the prop tax of everyone in the city? Or say, four homes in Price Hill? I take it there's a formula.
