Cleveland: Flats East Bank
The mix of establishments is not bad at all, I think there is definitely (like everywhere else downtown) a maintenance and aesthetics issue. Developing the surface lot would be great for making it feel more connected.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
I think this is pretty good news, they will do well there. I had previously heard a rumor that Alley Cat is going to close and hopefully that is not the case. I feel like the Flats overall needs some new life and someone who really cares about the area to manage and maintain it... it's all over the place right now.

Cleveland: Downtown: Rockefeller Building Rehab-Additions
For a while it sounded like new ownership of this building and redevelopment was imminently going to be announced. Did that fall through?
-
Cleveland: Downtown: The Centennial (925 Euclid Redevelopment)
Apparently this was fairly high in consideration for the new Courthouse but perhaps now with the Federal Building drama that may change? not sure.

Cleveland: Which Project Will Be Next and Why
I have heard that there is some actual legitimacy to putting the courts in the Centennial

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Alea is super unique and always has been full when I have been there but I did hear from someone in the neighborhood, albeit just a rumor, that they may close. I hope that is not true!

Cleveland: Hotel Development
This is a really nice upgrade. AC hotels are usually very nice, sleek and modern with a public bar or restaurant component.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
A big part of the problem is the huge street which creates a very uncomfortable dead feeling. The midway hopefully will help that - if you stand on Superior downtown where they have the tree median it already feels much better than the stretch east without it. Still going to need a lot more people in that area to make it vibrant, it has a long way to go but I do think the median will have a big impact on how it feels.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower at Erieview & Galleria Renovation
Not sure if this got posted anywhere else but if this really does happen it’s awesome news. And am I understanding correctly that there will be a bar on the roof, as in outside? I know there will be a restaurant on the top floor, but it sounds like there will be both? “Kassouf sets Erieview Tower conversion timeline, deepens development team The transformation of the high-vacancy, 40-floor Erieview Tower and failed Galleria indoor mall into a mixed-use complex may be ready to proceed following two rounds of Cleveland legislation, multiple awards of tax credits and six years in the pipeline. “This thing is going to go,” Jon Pinney, managing partner of developer TurnDev and the Kohrman Jackson Krantz law firm, said in a phone interview on Friday, Oct. 18.“ https://www.crainscleveland.com/real-estate/kassouf-sets-erieview-hotel-residential-conversion-timeline

Cleveland: Retail News
I’ve heard this about Heinen’s as well. It’s disappointing but I also feel like ever since COVID they have not been running the store as well as at the beginning and the upstairs area was the same. They need to change some things and if consolidating to one floor will help that I guess I’m ok with it, although I’m not quite sure how they plan to do it. I really wish they would utilize the old coffee shop space for something like Mitchell’s.

Cleveland: Scranton Peninsula: Development and News
From what I understand the parting of ways with the former CEO was because he was one of the main people pushing for the move to Avon. The Conways still want to develop the riverfront land but are not in much of a hurry which is why this is dragging along. But those original designs are great - I would love to see something like that happen.

Which parking lot is this proposed to be on?

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
I did not realize what a mess CSU is in. The fact that they are even suggesting demolition for Fenn Tower is insanity: "The university is exploring a range of options with Fenn, Tompkins said, from completely demolishing the building to spending tens of millions on structural enhancement to trying to find a third-party developer that might be interested in renovating the structure." "But even if CSU solved all its facility issues — a huge hypothetical, considering it has about $350 million in deferred maintenance on its buildings, according to Signal Cleveland — the arena project would still be in limbo because CSU’s athletic future is still in limbo."

Cleveland: Hotels, Conventions, and Tourism News & Info
I think it's hard to compare to larger cities but if you look at more comparable cities like Pittsburgh and Detroit, Cleveland is severely lacking. I don't really understand it - there is pretty much no national retail of any kind. Meanwhile, Detroit as H&M, Gucci (!), Under Armour, Nike... Pittsburgh has Target, they still have their Brooks Brothers... It's incredibly frustrating. I'm not sure what the answer is. Tower City seems to have systematically been emptied of every last national retailer that was hanging on.

I cannot for the life of me understand the way this place is run.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Irishtown Bend Park
Someone other than the city would have to be on top of the maintenance because currently our record is abysmal. Even the Guardians of Traffic have been challenging to keep lit.

Cleveland: Hotel Development
Great renovation. I hope they really elevate the property and maintain it. Though I have this feeling that we aren’t going to get the sign on the roof… Hope I’m wrong 🙄

According to DP Dough they went through a management change that took longer than expected but they actually do plan to reopen Downtown soon

Jade Steak & Sushi closes in Cleveland https://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/2024/05/jade-steak-sushi-closes-in-cleveland.html Article is paywalled but I cannot say I am surprised. This seemed like an ill-conceived concept that was not well-run. I am so tired of so many of these sort of places opening in Cleveland... I wish we had more WELL RUN concepts with strong management and staff. The location deserves better.

Cleveland: Downtown: Ten60 Bolivar Apartments
This project is really so impactful in an otherwise forgotten area! I hope it spills over and leads to some of the other nearby lots being developed. Now if we can just get that E. 9th Spaghetti House lot built on!!

Cleveland: Scranton Peninsula: Development and News
I know there were a lot of feelings about the design of this project but the scale is truly impressive. If you have not seen it in person it's worth a look - it really is going to rapidly transform this area.
