Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
https://www.crainscleveland.com/breaking-news/london-based-company-picks-cleveland-north-american-headquarters The Crains article does not reveal the exact location but does say it will be downtown: "The London Stock Exchange Group's Elite, formed in 2012 and currently working with 1,200 businesses in 43 countries, will locate in downtown Cleveland in 2020. The subsidiary of the London Stock Exchange is an international business support and capital-raising company aimed at helping small and midsize enterprises (SME). It selected Cleveland as the headquarters site after a three-day visit in September 2019."

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
I was never a fan of the design of this low-rise hodge-podge neighborhood- though obviously glad for the increased population and the removal of parking lots. Recently though, I discovered that when you drive East 13th Street going north, and you see the Masthead building on the left and then see the new urban fabric rising eastward: its really jarring! It's amazing what three or four stories can do. Before it felt like downtown just dropped off at 13th- now there is a completely different feeling.

Cleveland: Retail News
I think the pop up retail is a cool idea and seems to be pretty successful in that spot but it’s also somewhat concerning that such a prominent spot can’t find a permanent tenant but all the new projects continue to add more retail spaces ...

Cleveland: Downtown: John Hartness Brown Buildings / Euclid Grand
Windows continuing to go in, framing going up on the building to the right for the new facade (not pictured) and additional details being added back in (cornices etc.) ... looks great! Wonder how they are going to get that last building on the left clean? Seems to be stubborn.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
This is so frustrating. It’s too bad but I live downtown, and some months fly every week. I have never taken the red line simply because I can drive there so much faster and don’t have to worry if there will be service when I get back. If things were fast and reliable I would definitely prefer not to drive.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
@KJP are you still hearing that we will hear an announcement by the end of the month? That means this week or next! What a relief it will be to finally know all.

Cleveland: Downtown: Cleveland Athletic Club Redevelopment
? @MyTwoSense have you seen this sidewalk in person? It’s actually laughable in how ridiculously narrow it is. I’m not sure what anyone was thinking here... I’m glad at least the sidewalk is OPEN. but really ??

Cleveland: Downtown: May Company Building
Jeez... I think Scene can sometimes be a little ridiculous in their 'everything is negative' approach but talk about shady-sounding: "Outside on the sidewalk following the meeting, Komoroski was on the phone debriefing someone on the vote while waiting at a crosswalk. Loud enough for anyone to hear, including this reporter, he was expressing to whomever was on the other end of the line his vigorous and sincere displeasure with the councilman's vote. "And one guy switched his vote at the last minute to a no. Kerry McCormack," Komoroski said. "Kerry FREAKING McCormack.""

Cleveland: Downtown: Cleveland Athletic Club Redevelopment
The curb cut in front of the CAC is absolutely ridiculous. If you compare the curb cuts in front of Heinens, The Wyndham etc. the useable sidewalk is about TWICE what it is in front of the CAC. This is because the sidewalk as a whole narrows at this intersection... so of course lets put a curb cut in the narrowest part of the sidewalk. ?♂️

Cleveland: Downtown: May Company Building
So ... why cant we do ALL OF THIS, without a bridge? When JACK returns to get approval of its final plans, the committee wants to see a detailed plan for the street, given that Gilbert’s companies have control of nearly all the property, including streetscaping improvements. The committee also wants a look at plans for overhauling the May Co. garage, including work that will replace some cement walls with a glass façade. The committee asked JACK to have conversations with RTA about improving transfer stops as part of a streetscape improvement.

Cleveland: Historic Photos
Aside from the Terminal Tower and maybe the ATT Building, why did Cleveland not build many tall (Lets say 25+ stories) skyscrapers in the 20s/30s as did cities like Detroit and Pittsburgh? Was it due to our bedrock situation?

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
It is mentioned that phase one, which will cost $110 million, will begin in early 2020. Do we know what it included in this phase?

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
Just reviewed the presentation. I gotta say... this is actually pretty impressive. As someone who works mainly from home and whose company is headquartered elsewhere- I would love to rent a space to work in an environment like this. I was not expecting them to tie in the development of the riverfront property. I would like to know more about that.

Cleveland: Downtown: May Company Building
Well according to the renderings were getting a "Fresh Organic Grocery".... plus a Dim Sum place so Im super excited about that ? In all seriousness... I like that the further renovation of the garage and retails bays is addressed here but why do I have a bad feeling that if they get their skywalk that will be where this project ends. I'm not sure who is in charge of maintaining the outsides of their existing properties but IMO the way the current walkway looks isn't a great sign... the area where it attaches to the Higbee looks cheap and dirty; actually the entire facade of the Higbee looks like it already needs a cleaning. Plus the area around the "Welcome Center"? Dead trees and broken streetlights. And don't get me started on that ridiculous looking "Patio" that is next to Wahlburgers.

Cleveland: Downtown: Cleveland Athletic Club Redevelopment
@Cavalier Attitude Wow its been so long since this part of the sidewalk was closed that I thought they ADDED that in. I had no idea it was there to begin with. It definitely seems like a very odd place to put something like that.
- Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
-
Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
In my own personal opinion Cleveland Hopkins is in NO way the 2nd worse... I fly almost weekly and its really a breeze -and while I would love more direct Delta flights, it works. My company is headquartered in Grand Rapids, MI... try getting a flight to and from there on a convenient schedule. Does anyone know how much travel Sherwin Williams employees do through Hopkins and what the key destinations would be?

Cleveland: Downtown: Jack Cleveland Casino - Phase 2
I commented on this before but for some reason Ontario on this stretch seems like the dirtiest street downtown. I don't get it because the DCA does a great job but somehow the area surrounding the Casino is filthy.
-
Cleveland: Downtown: Jack Cleveland Casino - Phase 2
Omg really? To that awful garage? They need to tear it down and put a building there, not build another bridge to it! Continuing the quest to make Ontario the ugliest street downtown.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
Wondering if anyone has any insight re. the Lincoln Building across from the Westin. It seemed they had begun the renovation but it’s been months since I’ve seen any progress.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
What a way to start as CEO of RTA. Sadly the system no longer seems to be capable of smoothly handling large events which leads to negative experiences like this which leads to negative press, and negative word of mouth by riders = continued ridership loss. It’s a vicious cycle. Though this quick response gives me hope things will move in the right direction: https://www.cleveland.com/news/2019/09/rta-identifies-fixes-after-waterfront-line-strands-browns-fans-early-monday-morning.html

Cleveland: Downtown: The Lumen
Thanks @KJP I had forgotten about your article regarding this. From what we have heard so far from Art Falco it seems there is plenty of interest in the Lumen. It will be interesting to see how much of that translates to actual leases. Hopefully it will lead quickly to development on 13th and Chester. It would be great if that was the next area of focus. It would also be great if the lot in between the Allerton and the Sterling Building could be considered as well... its a huge eyesore.

Cleveland: Downtown: Progressive Field
I thought a few months back there was mention of the fact that they are considering a redo of those shipping containers, as they have NOT been a popular design choice. Hopefully that is the case. EDIT: From the Crains article above back in January: "In the case of the private terraces, Danburg said the Indians are discussing something similar to what the Colorado Rockies and Oakland Athletics have done. If the Indians continue to pursue the option, which would be more than a few years away, the terraces would replace the upper-deck boxes in right field. Those patio areas — which resemble shipping containers and feature retired jersey numbers and the names of community partners — have been the only aspects of an extensive ballpark renovation that have been roundly criticized." I guess we will see if anything comes of this.

Cleveland: Ohio City: INTRO (Market Square / Harbor Bay Development)
That would do wonders for the area... Do you think the bigger problem was the financing or the fact that they didn't have enough leasing from potential tenants? I guess my question is why build this building if its going to be half-empty, at least for the time being. Though didn't the Ernst & Young Tower lease up surprisingly quickly?

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
More info on the county land at 25th and Detroit: 'Cuyahoga County proposes selling Ohio City land for 200 apartments, retail' "CLEVELAND, Ohio — A development featuring 200 apartments and retail is slated for county-owned land near Veterans Memorial Bridge in Ohio City if Cuyahoga County Council signs off the sale of the parcels. The 1.6 acres at the northeast corner of West 25th Street and Detroit Avenue is now home to a garage and test lab for the Department of Public Works. The county proposes to sell the parcel for $4.15 million to Bridgeworks LLC, one of two bidders." https://www.cleveland.com/news/2019/09/cuyahoga-county-proposes-selling-ohio-city-land-for-200-apartments-retail.html Some positive bits of into from the article: "The property, known as the Bridge Garage and Engineers Test Lab, includes an access point for the lower level of the Veterans Memorial Bridge and a century-old ticket booth building, both of which the developer intends to keep intact, Public Works Director Michael Dever said."
